Title: Question about psp spriting
Post by: darkegg on November 19, 2008, 12:31:39 pm
Okay, i followed all the instructions, and i get stuck at this point.
To replace another sprite, the sprite must be of the same size as the sprite to be replaced.
But how do u do it?

uhhh more specific, like how to make it a smaller file size? or how to make it a sprite file?
its kinda hard to make a smaller file size or if you want to make a sprite open shishi and open a sprite file the click import and import your sprite then save.

All sprites on the PSP are the same size. They don't use any compression, I think.

Okay, you know when u check the properties of the spr file, it says:

NEWAGURI

size: 42.8kb
size on disk: 44.0kb

AGURI

size: 44.0kb
size on disk: 44.0kb

My FFT:WOTL hangs at the SQUARE ENIX screen.

And it only hangs when i edit sprites.

EDIT:
Does anybody have or have come across the same problem?
Because i tried following what other people have done, and i still failed.
And yes i tried searching google and this site.

Checked the WotL section yet? I'm pretty sure this is not a new issue.

I followed a guide there, and i got stuck at the 'same sprite size' part.
Even when i made the LBA the same as before i swapped the fftpack.bin,
it still hung at the intro.

Using UMDGEN v4.00, FFTPATCHER v3.28, SHISHI sprite editor.

And i followed this guide.

No i did not edit the cloud sprite, i know that it has problems.
Currently following gojoe's guide. And....
I'm still stuck at the 'same sprite file size' part. See my second post for more details.
Nope, did not work.
File size of the ISO was way off.
Does anybody have a definite solution to this problem?
And stop telling me to do what i have been doing, its the matter of changing the filesize to match the one in the battle folder.

NEWAGURI (CUSTOM SPRITE)
size: 42.8kb
size on disk: 44.0kb

AGURI (BATTLEFOLDER SPRITE)
size: 44.0kb
size on disk: 44.0kb

And NO i did not change cloud's sprite or anything else, just agrias' sprite.

you are overwriting the sprite, right? file size of the entire iso?
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on November 19, 2008, 04:11:26 pm
did you leave the newaguri with the aguri name right?
Title:
Post by: darkegg on November 19, 2008, 04:54:11 pm
Overwriting, yes.
Name, yes.
File size of entire iso before adding sprites is 409mb.
File size of entire iso after adding sprites is 388mb.
Game hangs at square enix screen.

There's definitely a problem with that. The ISO should always stay the same size.

Not always when you change the fftpack.bin it removes the empty space, every time you do this it happens.  That is weird though it sounds like you made a tiny mistake somewhere.  Also nice avatar update Vanya.

409MB was the original file size?

If you don't mind my asking, where did you get the ISO from?
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on November 19, 2008, 09:31:42 pm
That was the size of my ISO Dom.
Title:
Post by: Dominic NY18 on November 19, 2008, 09:43:35 pm
Weird. Mine was only 400MB.
Title:
Post by: gojoe on November 19, 2008, 09:45:16 pm
both of my copies are 399mb
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on November 19, 2008, 09:46:41 pm
Sorry mine came out messed up once at 409 but my original is 399mb.
Title:
Post by: Dominic NY18 on November 19, 2008, 09:48:51 pm
399 sounds normal.

It was messed up when it came out at that size though? Maybe his ISO is messed up then.

Yea I accidentally dumped my entire bonus sprite folder into it and it came out at about 409.5mb

The size of my iso is 399mb after and before i patched it with fftpatcher.
My mistake, it isn't 409mb.

So nobody here can solve my problem?
Btw, does spriting work on every region version?
Title:

That we know of yes, desu.

Try ripping a new ISO.

EDIT: desu.
Title:
Post by: darkegg on November 20, 2008, 10:51:39 pm
Okay thanks.
Btw my iso size is 399, i made a mistake.
But i'll rip another iso.
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on November 20, 2008, 10:54:59 pm
It might have just been UMDmages (or whatever its called) fault, desu.  Hope that works out for ya, desu.

Still didn't work for me.
I'll give the steps of what i did to the ISO.

1. Patch ISO using FFTPATCHER
2. Extracted FFTPACK using UMDGEN
3. Extracted FFTPACK using FFTPATCHER
4. Opened up NEWAGURI using SHISHI SPRITE EDITOR and saved over AGURI.SPR with the name AGURI.SPR
5. Repacked FFTPACK using FFTPATCHER
6. DRAGGED the NEW FFTPACK over the OLD FFTPACK in UMDGEN and clicked on YES to replace OLD FFTPATCHER
7. SAVED FFT AS UNCOMPRESSED ISO
8. FILE SIZE was 370mb++ compared to NORMAL 399MB
9. Game HUNG at SQUARE ENIX screen

Thats what i did. If theres any errors, please point it out.

EDIT:
Haha, after looking at http://www.ffhacktics.com/psx/spr.php (http://www.ffhacktics.com/psx/spr.php)
I figured that maybe i was replacing the wrong sprite.
Will update after spriting.

YET ANOTHER EDIT:
Did not work.
Used same steps as above, except i tried to retain the LBA integrity after failing once, to yet fail again.

Note: I retained the LBA integrity of the fftpack to forcibly set the filesize of the iso to remain at 399mb, and it still did not work.

Btw, my LBA of the FFTPACK is normally 22592, but after replacing just one sprite (not cloud) the LBA drops to between 10000-20000 (did not take note of the value, but the value is the same all the time)

So, any suggestions? Download an ISO of FFT:WOTL (US) instead of using my current FFT:WOTL(EU)?

Could it possibly be a problem with your patch, and by that I mean try spriting without the patch.  With that info it seems easier what the problem could be.
Title:
Post by: darkegg on November 21, 2008, 02:56:34 pm
Trying it now.

EDIT: Did not work.
Title:
Post by: darkegg on November 22, 2008, 07:16:08 am
So what now, is there no other solution other then buying another game?
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on November 22, 2008, 02:30:32 pm
Does the patch work when you don't edit the sprites?
Title:
Post by: darkegg on November 23, 2008, 10:32:16 am
Yes.
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on November 23, 2008, 02:04:31 pm
Then you have messed up the sprites in someway i shall test this myself just tell me which sprite you changed with what.
Title:
Post by: gojoe on November 23, 2008, 02:05:14 pm
methinks your sprite has custom colors or exceeds the color count
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on November 23, 2008, 02:07:26 pm
Tiss possible but wouldn't shishi tell you if that where the case?
Title:
Post by: darkegg on November 24, 2008, 09:40:43 am
I used the new agrias sprite, replaced it over AGURI.SPR and did not work, then i did it all over again, but instead of AGURI.SPR, its KANBA.SPR.

BTW I RENAMED THE SPRITES CORRECTLY and i DID NOT TOUCH CLOUD.

The NEWAGURI.SPR can be downloaded from the main site.

Post by: DarthPaul on November 24, 2008, 10:07:43 am
I already have the sprite so i'll try it and see what happens.
Title:

Been 3 days, have you tried it yet?
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on November 27, 2008, 09:32:06 am
Oh sorry yes I tried it twice and one ISO had your problem and the other one worked so I'm looking for the problem.

This problem is flustering.

I see. So... Time to get another ISO?
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on November 28, 2008, 01:56:41 pm
Yes that's what i think cause i have 6 working ISOs and the one nonworking one and they are all the same so other than that i dunno.
Title:
Post by: darkegg on November 29, 2008, 03:50:26 pm
Gah. Don't want to spend the money to buy the same game.
I'll just download it somewhere.

The best thing I can think of since you already own the game.
