Title: Silence exchanged for Addle
Post by: LastingDawn on November 18, 2008, 06:32:49 pm
Anyone familiar with FFTA, will recall what Addle is, that it is a status effect which doesn't allow you to use any of your skills, but unlike Silence does wear off after a time. Asmo came up with a great point that silence is too hard hitting and damaging to only One sort of unit, and that is the magic user, so in our efforts to balance the playing field, Silence has been turned into Addle. Though it does appear that Lydyn had done this first in his Shuushin patch, so as well I must give him credit for this idea, would this be a problem with anyone? Also we might want to decide how long this can last, Addle is a very powerful status, and many spells and skills that Silence will need changed and altered. {Will make Golden Hairpin more useful at least, heh...)

well

consider this

Don't Act lasts for 24 CT in vanilla

don't act disables EVERYTHING

even attack command and reaction ability

Addle is not THAT powerful when you compare it to don't act

I don't think he was looking for that kind of power and possibly addle could last for much longer than Don't Act.

I believe it to be a grand idea, chap.

Anyway you could keep silence and add Addle?

I don't think so

but either way, the point was to get rid of silence so that the status would affect all jobs equally

IIRC?

That is correct, silence is simply too bias against Magic Users, and Magic Users really don't have a proper counter to it, other then carrying (the now defunct...) item as a secondary, which is a problem, to the balance of Mage vs Fighter.

I don't know how much you have changed with skill %, but Addle should work pretty well if you just replace Silence with it and give it maybe a 32CTR period of effect.  It should still be more accurate than Don't Act, since Don't Act is superior.

In that I fully agree, Don't Act is quite superior.

Reviving this oldest thread..

I think* these might help..
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Status_Effect (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Status_Effect)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Status_effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Status_effect)

I think Oil should be removed, Don't act be debuffed, and probably add a positive
status effect instead. Sorry if I can't suggest something specific to add.

Oil is "Dark Matter" Which doesn't allow you to apply good status on that character, a very rare status.

Don't Act is a rare status as well, nothing the player has can cast it outright.

Berserk... without losing control is just Power Up, you don't lose anything from it.

Good one!

I see. That makes it balanced. :)

Was anything done with the Wall status?  If that is still free, Astra could be used by making it so that negative statuses cannot stack onto Wall but not the other way around.  It should probably be made a short lived status, but it would be an interesting one.

I guess I can combine Astra and Wall, that leaves only one troublesome status... We'll fix Addle before long, I hope.
