Title: Battle Titles
Post by: Archael on November 16, 2008, 10:38:11 am
Possible to change the titles / names of the encounters?

If the event order won't be the same, the battles need not be named the same as in vanilla I think

Although I guess the locations are the same from FFT.... I don't know

We know where they are located, we can view them, but unfortunately I don't believe we know how to change them but...

The Italian hackers must know! It would add a bit of spice admittedly, but we would need to get in contact with our Italian friends then.

A new battle theme would be great. I make music y'know.. and yesterday I got this new Orchestral Plugin with lots of instruments.. I'm gonna try it out and see if I can get used to it and if I can come up with some nice music for the battle formation screen I'll post it on NewGrounds and tell you.

Hmm... we can supposedly import music... it might be possible.

Thank you for your support! If it does work you will be given full credit.

I think editing the Map Titles should already be possible using the same method that is used to edit skill effects.

Well it's not even that, I know where they are located, Shishi can read them even, just not the complete list.

Well.. this one is my Battle formation screen song (or my first try :S)

I hope you like it. If you like it but want to change some thing, just tell me.... And if you don't like it and want to go for a totally different style, tell me so and I'll see what I can do. (It's not mandatory for you to use this song..).

Nice Sephirot you certainly have some skills, this is quite good. I am not music expert so I don't have much feedback other than that I like it and it is a good listen and catchy to boot. Seems like it fits the mood pretty well too, you have any others that would fit the tone of the game to show off?

Thx alot man! ^^

My work is mostly remakes and remixes of videogame songs in general. I started last year (If you click on my sig, and click on Audio you can see all my work in the order I submitted it). The only 100% original work I have is labeled with " {X} " as opposed to remixes and remakes that are labeled " [XD] " lol..

I've done just a few little loops.. I don't think I have any that could fit the game. But I'm willing to try. I always try to make new songs but it's very difficult and I end up with many unfinished projects X_X

Well.. I'm really glad you liked it. If you think some part should be cut out / extended / modified, feel free to suggest.

I like the general toon, I think you are just going to need to really study up on the instruments and sound style of FFT to really have your beats meld well with the original. But like I said I don't have much knowledge of such things.

Hmm, the formation screen right before battle... as rare as that is... but I love this song! It fits the theme of Mercenaries perfectly! You made this yourself?

You like it? I think it fits too! =D

Yeah, I made it myself. As simple as it is, it's the longest original work I have. I am very good at remaking songs as I can take out all the notes of the instruments just listening to the song. But as I didn't study music, I don't have much knowledge as to create my own big, elaborated tracks. Most of my original ideas are left as unfinished projects or little loops. But this one, I made especially for this so, I'm really glad that you liked it, and it'd be AWESOME if you could/wanted to put it in the game =)

You can download the track right there from Newgrounds.

That I have, now to try to put it in game.. if I succeed, would you like to be the music director?

Woah.. that sounds like a great proposition! I don't know if I'm up to that level though but I'd sure love to give it a try.
What would you want me to do if I'm the music director?

Well, basically compose the songs and themes, more or less. Gafgarion needs a theme, Agrias needs a theme, a few new battle songs, a new World Map music and a formation screen theme, that's all I can think of for now.

That'd be great. I hope I'm up to the challenge =)
If you get that song to work in the patch let me know. Maybe post a little vid of it working if you can? (IF you can. If you can't there's no problem)

I will do my best, I think I need to talk with Zodiac about this... basically he's been behind every one of my successes dealing with hacking.

I know it must be really tough. I am studying System Engineering (don't know how does it translate exactly as English isn't my 1st language). I've just started, so I'm seeing more math than anything, but I know a little about the basics of programing. It's quite difficult as every concept is so abstract and you gotta think about everything... but practice makes perfect.

I thought someone here on FFH already knew how to do that. If there are limitations with the code or the size of the patch or whatever I can understand, so don't feel pressured and take your time (it's usually the wisest answer).

Hey sephy, try and get some themes from FF7 because Cloud is basically a mercenary many ways through and some of the music may fit well, especially battle/boss themes.

Hint- Try Aerith's theme for some climatic or dramatic battle moment or scene.

I would sugguest shortening the battle theme by getting rid of some repetition as the beginning is a little boring, but as the music gets progressively more intricate it gets very good

I was thinking something similar. In addition to some new original themes, we could add other FF music remastered. The one I see most fitting is FFTA and FFXII as those have music by the same guy, and some FFTA battle songs are quite good.

You mean the battle formation screen song I did? The start is a little slow yes.. I think the progression speed of the song would depend on how much time anyone spends on the formation screen. The song is divided into segmentns (at least that's how I see it). The 1st 2 sections are repeated. You have segment1-->segment1-->segment2-->segment2-->segment3-->segment4-->etc.. I think that if I cut out both repetitions it'll feel rushed. Maybe taking out the 1st one, leaving segment1-->segment2-->segment2-->segment3-->etc.. but then again, that'd depend on how much time people spend on the formation screen.

I'll give it a change tomorrow and tell you guys here, and we can compare.

Well the formation screen, as nice as the music is, people probably won't spend too much time there. Only because you have two characters to place.

That's a shorter verison. Segment1-->Segment2-->Segment3-->Segment4-->Segment5-->repeat
You should download it LastingDawn, and then if you find a way to put songs into the game you could try both to see which one fits better.

Still sounding good, though I think the loop transition isn't as good.

True, loop transition is a little iffy, but much much improved. I can EASILY imagine this as a battle formation tune for mercenaries

Yeah, looping is slightly off IMO. Sometimes that happens because of the Flash player on Newgrounds. Have you tried downloading it? I think I could get that fixed though if it happened in the patch.

This sounds great! the loop transition really doesn't bother me much, but the song in itself fits the extremely tense mood of most of the patch. I am glad to see such work!
