Title: The Lion War vs ReMixed
Post by: Wizality on October 30, 2024, 06:09:41 am
Hi,

I've been wanting to play a modded FFT for a while now but I'm conflicted on what to pick between The Lion War and The Lion War ReMixed, as I'm not entirely sure what the difference is or which version is definitive or if one has pros and cons over the other and vice versa. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

I had part of this written on an open tab, but I walked away at some point and forgot that I never finished it.

The Lion War is 99% vanilla, and it would be 99.9% if not for the removal of Guests in the Roster in order to expand the number of usable permanent slots. It's the go-to mod if you want the most definitive, faithful vanilla experience of PSX FFT + WotL.

ReMixed is built upon TLW, and is the definitive Quality of Life vanilla mod. It's packed to the brim with every conceivable QoL feature I could find or make. It's only about 85, 90% vanilla though.

Some things have been rebalanced to some degree. Not so much out of any tight balance design but in order to make options that were previously rather terrible have at least some use and be around the level it should be for where it is in the game/tier list. There are also a large amount of new options and features. J7Jase covered most of the differences in 1.1 in a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KfjB78ANVM&pp=ygUOajdqYXNlIHJlbWl4ZWQ%3D) a ways back, if you want a list.

I can't seem to find this comparison video, do you have the name or link of it? Also I know you created ReMixed but without bias which one would you suggest for a first time playthrough (whether it be first time in general or first time modded). Also thanks a ton for replying in the first place, I was worried this post might end up buried and unanswered.

The words "in a video" are a link.

As for which mod I would recommend - it depends what you're looking for. An extremely vanilla experience or a high quality of life one that is only highly vanilla rather than extremely vanilla.

One last question, for ReMixed, is it possible for me to use the WOTL script? Or is that only available through TLWOTL which from what I can see is it's own entire mod.

Okay so I saw that it's something you have planned but aren't currently working on, that's alright.
