Title: making sure a enemy has THAT ability
Post by: Velos on October 16, 2008, 09:42:02 pm
Guess I can only explain it with an example...(don't know the English words for my question :P)

Let's say I am fighting a Monk in the story line. How can I make sure that he knows Earth Slash or Chakra or something else?

I thought it had something to do with 'Jobs unlocked' in the ENTD tab of the patcher, but I'm not sure.

EDIT: Oh, I would also like to know what I need to do to give enemies (in story line/random) good equipment. Cause I saw some videos of the 1.3 playthrough and the enemies there have very good equipment. What must I do?

Thnx

you can edit the entd battles and give the enemies good equipment or put them at higher levels

and as for the skills try lowering the cost of the skills you want them to know and maybe up the jp necessary for higher job levels

If you lower the item's level, the enemies will be able to equip them earlier.

If you set a special job skillset on someone, it will be automatically mastered. So if you give a monk Punch Skill, the monk will be able to use all the skills in that skillset.

So if I give the Monk elemental as secondary...it knows all the Geomancer skills?

Thnx for the info about the equipment!

you can make dummy versions of skillsets, you will also need to use the text editor to add in the skillset name

you said you wanted a monk with chakra and earth slash, well. you can take one of the blank skillsets, make it only have chakra and earth slash, then in entd editor set this one as the primary (be sure to name the skillset name "Punch Art" with text editor or it will be obvious what you did) now if you make this monk join you, hes going to have EVERY skill learned for monk, keep that in mind....

Ooh... I've had a bad experience with the Text Editor, but I can give it a shot. Thnx for the tip.

likely from world.bin but if your skillset is enemy only then u only need to edit the text that doesnt involve world.bin

I'll try to avoid that then :P

Sorry, but only special skillsets. Elemental is a generic skillset so it won't auto-learn all skills.

but of course you could always make a special skillset thats a dupe and it will be.

I'm going to play around for a bit to see what I can come up with. But atleast I know how it all works.

Another question: How can I easily test things with the pSX emulator? Everytime I want to test the changes that I made, I have to start over and fight against Lezales and co.
I can't use load state either cause then the emulator loads the game without the new changes I've made.
How do you guys test?

ENTD information is loaded in the RAM when you enter a location. So there's not really much way but to make a quicksave before entering the location then verify the changes.

While you can't use Save States to to test the new changes, you can use saved games off of the (phantom) memory card. So, just save after the first battle and such and load the game after starting the new changed ISO.

you could change the JP cost to something low and set the chance of it being learned to 100%, but then every enemy monk you fight would have that skill

Where/how do I get this phantom memory card?
So, how do you guys test the changes you've made?

Thnx Jacob! I haven't thought of that

... any PSX emulator comes with it. Just save the game like you would on the PSX. *Shrug* Then load it like the PSX to test the applied changes.

If I try to save, it says: "Memory Card is not properly inserted."
So what's up with that?

Not sure. I just use PSXeven myself and it's never had problems.
