Title: Dropping In
Post by: digitaldragoon on October 09, 2008, 12:09:46 pm
Hello all.  I've been lurking for a couple days, posted once, and felt I should probably announce my presence officially.

I am an artist by trade and am very interested in sprite editing.  Any links to useful discussions would be amazing, I'd rather not post general questions on the board if avoided.  I'm a quick study in most cases, but I suck at seeking out info with searches.

From a time perspective, I'm married with a daughter who just entered the twos.  I work full time and take part in construction projects on some weekends.  I can't guarantee any amount of time towards this but I'd love to help out for the fun and experience.

Well I am always happy to welcome a fellow spriter. We now have a stickied topic in the Sprites Thread just for random questions, so ask them there and there will be no issues. What programs do you currently use, I could give you some tips.

I am proficient in flash and photoshop.  Can't say I've worked with sprite files in the past, I'm normally using photoshop as an editing tool for pr materials or textures for 3d models.

Not sure if there is any need or application that you can see, but most of my current work is in Second Life and similar virtual worlds.

Ah interesting. I use photoshop for editing sprites, though I have to use Graphics Gale (a great program) to actually get the sprite inserted into the game.

Do you think you could create textures that would fit the style of the world maps? We aren't very close to editing them yet, but it would be interesting to see.

^Cheetah and everyone else too

Now that would be interesting.  Maybe I could build some fake terrains in 3ds Max and texture them in the Tactics style.  I realize that they would not be integrated any time soon but it would still be enjoyable.  Since there seems to be a big following for FF7 and Xenogears (and I'm very familiar with both titles) maybe I could add maps for those locations.

Since I don't know specifics about size or scale, I can definitely not guarantee that even if a way to insert them into the game, that they would work.  Instead, this would just be starting grounds.

Please send me any requests that you have, preferably with reference photos if I don't know the game (ie: breath of fire, suikoden, or Valkerie Profile come to mind).

If you looking in the hacking or ripping thread there is a stickied section for maps, read that. There is also a program that you can download at the main site that allows you to view all the maps in the game!.
