Title: What fonts does FFT use?
Post by: skiploom188 on September 23, 2014, 10:20:45 am
I have a HUGE selection of fonts in my pc, but I can't find these fonts:

I really want these fonts added to my collection. They'll be fun to have around with my MS Powerpoint shenanigans. Do you guys have any idea what the name of those fonts are? and where I can find them?

Thanks  :D

It's called Final Fantasy Tactics Font, and you can find it here: http://ffhacktics.com/wiki/Font

In other words, they aren't made from TrueType, and they have no TTF analogue. You can get somewhat kind of close, but there is no exact match.

No TrueTypes?

Nooooooooooooooo...

On the bright side, at least I found out sooner that my quest in finding this font will just be a dud.

Oh, and one more pic I forgot, is it just the same as the caption fonts?

How about the Gil Number font? Does it have an exact match? Georgia seems to come close (987654).

Your 'caption' example isn't created from a font like the game text is. Each of those is an individual image pulled from FRAME.BIN They're also all individually so small that they don't have a lot of characteristics to define them, I think anyways. You can only make so many variations of a letter in a 8px by 6px, especially when you're using space for shading.

Georgia is a nice match for the numbers in a pinch though.

From the looks of it, it seems like a pretty tough job to extract those letters one by one. Little by little my quest is going nowhere. But then again at least I found it out sooner. Thanks very much everyone! I was about to say ladies, but I'll just write "everyone" just to be safe...

I need a plan B... Synthesize these texts!

You're correct that everyone who has posted in this thread so far are ladies except you and me. You're a man and I'm a pony.

I thought he was a plant.

Plant pokemon aren't plants, they're animals with plant-like characteristics.

You got me that he's not a man though. Nor is Vaan; pretty boys don't count.

@Celdia
I can't believe it, but your big bitmap has exactly all the stuff I was searching for years ago. :D I was trying to translate FFT to German.
Does some tool support those small bitmaps now, are they basically editable? I couldn't find them back then with Shishi Sprite Editor or other tools.

They should be in the other images tab in the newest version of Shishi.

I can probably get that sheet translated to German for you... well, Pfälzisch, but good enough lol.

However the rest would be on you. And i wouldnt do it unless you were actually serious about getting the rest done... I could also get the Sharp S and Umlauts into the in game text font as well, they would just need to be called with commands instead of actual text (ex: ß = {3118} not accurate, just an example)

Well, I still have all the files I made and used back then. But it would take some time to get into it again. As far as I remember, I could use all German umlauts and at the naming screen, but I'm not quite sure. The translation is not dead, but I think I can't motivate myself to fully finish it any time soon. Still thanks for your offer! And if those bitmaps are now editable with Shishi, I would translate those bitmaps myself, most likely with another font to fit into the available space, as I did with the main menu. Yeah I also had problems with the given space length of names, but I think Xifanie already helped me on that problem years ago and I have noted it somewhere. ^^
