Title: PJIRC Errors
Post by: CodySpie on January 20, 2014, 03:42:05 pm
Heyo Hacktics fans,

I just recently updated to Java 7.51, which implements some pretty strict security updates that makes IRC's a living nightmare. Java politely offered a solution and a Workaround on their website

Quote from: http://java.com/helpIt is in your best interest to contact developer or publisher of this application and let them know about the application being blocked. Also provide developers with these links that gives details about implementing secure practices in the code for the application.
JAR File Manifest Attributes for Security
Java SE 7 Security Documentation
Secure Coding Guidelines for the Java Programming Language, Version 4.0

The work around is to add the site using the application to your exception list, which I have several different times. (see below)

Unfortunately I've had no luck in getting the chat to work and thought I would post a word of caution to those with an outdated Java version and see if anyone else is having the same issue.

I switched from PJIRC to Mibbit recently. I find it works way better, so you could try that instead :P
It's right next to PJIRC on the top bar thingy of the page.

Going from PJIRC to Mibbit is like going from Hot Wheels to an actual Corvette. Why anyone would use PJIRC anymore is beyond me.

Maybe Xifanie should remove it then? I didn't know it was that bad :P

I could have removed it when I was updating the links a few months back, but the reason I didn't is because there was a day not long before then where several of us couldn't access Mibbit at all, and fell back on PJIRC. For that day.

The other reason I didn't remove it is because the PHP for the main page is kind of a mess. It took me many many tries to get all the links updated, and I still had to wait for xifi to get up from a nap to ask her where the last pesky one even was. 8D
