I can't seem to get the portrait to have the right pallets. I am using graphics gale, and I am trying to use the guide on this site, but at one point it says you should have the portrait with the right colors as a separate BMP file. How is this done?

ah so many people dont know how to figure this out and i find it very hard to explain but if you look at the tutorials someone i think mav made a tutorial on how to do it so look there and you may or may not find your answer(srry if this is no help)

Read the tutorial carefully.

Here's what you want to do:
1. Separate the desired portrait into a separate bmp file, dont matter about the colors.
2. Then, save the portrait.bmp file's palette
3. Continue reading again the tutorial
4. Experiment.

What guide are you using?
Be sure to use mav's, which can be found on the main site's tutorial page.

I've been using Mav's guide. At one point though it says "Now it's time to fix the portrait. Hopefully you already have the portrait cropped out as a separate BMP with the correct palette. If not, proceed to do so." But, it does not tell me how to. I can crop it out fine, but I don't know how to get the right pallet. Do I have to make it myself?

Can you post the portrait you want to have the right palette?
I think, you must have the right colors for the portrait.

Algus, I see. Here's his original palette, just edit them later.
Right colors attached:

(you could also get that manually from shishi)

EDIT: it seems that I can't attach the file.

Here's what you can do:
1.) open shishi and iso
2.) export(ctrl+e) algus' SPRITE AS bmp, (CHECK the always use corresponding palette for portrait)
3.) now separate the portrait and you now have the right colors)
4.) feel free to edit the portrait now then follow the tutorial.

Which version of Sishi do I use? I've been doing exactly that with Sishi that came with fftpatcher v0.352.

I have been using that one, and doing what you said, but I still cannot get the right colors for the portrait.

you can also start by getting a portrait at the galerries at our profile section then resize it by 32 x 48

Make sure you're changing the color depths. I accidentally made that mistake the first time I combined portraits. After you do that, you'll have to get the new palette from the cut-out portrait. Afterward, just continue with the steps and remember to change the color depths when directed by the tutorial.

I'm following the guide, at one point it says you should have the face cropped out with the correct colors and saved as a bmp file. I don't know how to get the correct colors. I have it on 16 colors, I try loading the ninth row for the pallet on the portrait bmp, but all it does is make it brown distorted colors instead of blue.

Yes, I am using graphicsgale.

Use this. I just used one of the programs to extract the portrait for the formation screen.

Well that works fine. How do I extract that myself? In case I want to edit more portraits in the future.

Thanks by the way.

CDMAGE - To extract the WLDFACE.BIN, load it into...
http://www.ffhacktics.com/downloads.php?id=2

FFTEVGRP - Select Algus's portrait and Save BMP.

...and no problem! Glad to help. :)

you need not to actually extract portraits from the sprite sheet
you can save portraits from the gallery then resize them(see previous post for the size)
unless you are editing custom sprites or your net connection was disabled
