why can shields block Shield Break I mean wouldn't they just break????

Same with Weapon Guard blocking Weapon Break

I mean would you try to block a punch to your face with your face?? NO.

I have asked this question since I was a wee little tot and no one has ever had an answer for me.  My though about it is the way it's guarded makes it a glancing blow, making it unable to break it.

Exactly. If a sword coming down on you is side-stepped and pushed out of the way, the shield or weapon is striking the incoming weapon from an angle where there is no force coming at it.

originally from mario 2 but i'm pretty sure they appear in mario 3 somewhere too.
