1) The rule is correct no more than 9 different sprite combinations, so basically change what you want but if the battle is a bit glitched you probably have too many different sprites.

Interestingly enough though, in a multiplayer battle in the PSP version you fight all the unique characters that go on your team and yet the game works just fine. Might be something to that.

2) Tier of equipment is based on level. So if in the item section a weapon has  level 5 for "Enemy Level" then that weapon can appear equipped on any enemy level 5 or higher while "Random" is chosen.

3) Just choose the last option in the drop down list of level. Then the enemy has a random level +-5 of the strongest member of your party.

4) You pretty much have the right idea when it comes to the battles. Enemies that appear can be changed in the ENTD editor. As for how you get a certain battle to appear. Just keep trying to enter from the same side until you get your desired battle, its just random chance to get the one you want.

5) I know "Load Formation" loads that particular character directly from your party, usually used for guests. Haven't really noticed what "Save Formation" does, but "Join After Event" is exactly what you think it means.

Thanks it works now. By the way great job on the new version and I'm looking forward to the next update to the text editor.

QuoteThere's a bug in the Shishi spritemanager

where when I import an edited spritesheet it crashes

The same thing happened to me. It was while I was trying to import the Kingdom Hearts Cloud over the original Cloud to see how it worked. The file I was importing is attached.

Nope not yet at least. Its great because just pressing enter in the text editor automatically makes the text box larger in game regardless of how small it was before. I have yet to test if a second text box is made if you have enough lines though.

As for issues, the only issue is that any changes to names aren't seen in the game except during prebattle so in some ways I can say that the PSP version is better in terms of text editing.

As for Sprite editing, I've successfully entered Cheetah's red mage sprite over Gafgarion's sprite and used it for Rad, but that's about it. I would practice with more sprite editing but I'm really lazy about it and motivation is hard to find.

Maybe I will finish my new Luso sprite one of these days.

My bad, pics should be viewable now.

After messing around a bit more with the Text editor it seems that with the PSP version you can go over the maximum byte length.

In addition to putting the "arrow Huntercraft" for all the monster skills Luso can learn from monsters on my patch. I've also given all generic jobs an innate ability also listing it in the job description. Below are a few more pics to show you what I mean.

These next two show the Mime Job description longer than it should be and working just fine.

The next three just show Luso with his abilities and two descriptions of only two of his abilities.

A few pics of successful changes.

Added the arrow and Huntcraft showing that Luso can learn the moves Blue Mage style.

Just a small change, "ramming" to "slamming."

Showing that Merc shows up in the pre-battle screen.

Another update on Text Editor, good news the Job name changes are shown on the pre-battle formation screen.

The bad thing though is that it seems ability name/descriptions seem to suffer from the same problem as the job name/descriptions and skillset name/descriptions. So basically description changes work fine but ability/skillset/job names aren't being changed at all except in the pre-battle formation screen.

War of the Lions Hacking / WotL Patching Issues
May 18, 2008, 08:33:10 am
I figured it might be a good idea to put in any detailed issues in terms of patching for the PSP version in one topic. This way the PSP users here can help test melonhead's programs extensively too.

Anyway I started messing around with the PSP version again after a long time today and used the Text Editor. I already know there were some issues with it but I wanted to test it somewhat.

So basically I changed all instances saying "Fell Sword" to "Dark Sword" (Gaffgarion's job/skillset) and also changed Ramza's Ch2/Ch3 job to say "Merc" in all instances. Everything works fine except there aren't any changes to any of the job names. All job/skillset descriptions work though.

I will test it a little bit more to see how ability names/descriptions work out to see how that is working as well.

Just keep Blue Mage MA a little less or equal to Black Mage and give them innate Magic Attack Boost. You can then also give them very low mp if you kept the Monster abilites useable without magic. That way they won't be godly magic casters simply because they have no mp to use.

I wasn't sure where to put this but I know all the Brave/Faith changing abilities were removed from the game. Was it discussed how that would affect rare items found using Move-Find Item?

I just remember that even with 10 bravery you still weren't guaranteed to get the rare item. If you guys haven't discussed it I guess the best solution would be just to make only the rare item available though Move-Find Item.

That's wierd since, although I never changed any sprites, I've changed ENTD files and rebuilt the fftpack.bin and had not problems. Below is pretty much what I did.

- Extract fftpack.bin from your ISO to your desired location using UMDGen.
- Extract fftpack.bin with FFT Patcher which will create that fftpack folder.
- Make any changes using FFT Patcher and save or replace any files you have created over the originals.
- Rebuild fftpack.bin using FFT Patcher.
- Drag and drop UMDGen back into your ISO and save the file as a decompressed ISO.

That should be all that you have to do.

You can play a modified ISO on the psp. I've done it with the PSP version and the PSX version. Let me know your "process" of patching and inserting it so that I can determine what went wrong.

I don't know if that's such a great idea.. I did that on a personal patch and every knight pretty much used a spear. It was kind of annoying (since they also were able to break stuff more from further away) but I couldn't find a way to fight more knights with swords.

If you are cool with that or you can fix that, which I couldn't then great. Just thought it was something worth mentioning.

This is what I have so far for Luso in his original size, haven't really had to time to finish him up and take off all the hats yet though. Also looking to change the yellow color for his overalls but haven't found a good color to use yet.

Also if anyone could give me some instructions or tips on changing the portrait and exporting and importing it properly that would be great.

By the way I tried importing the file over on of Gaf's sprites and it gave me an error.

Not really sure what I did wrong since I have the file set at 16 colors so if anyone can clear that up for me that would be great.

Also please give any suggestions and comments for the sheet as well.

I imported Balthier's sprite sheet over H61.SPR (Gafgarion's guest ver.) so that I could that sprite for Rad's sprite. I also made the necessary changes in ENTD so that Rad would have "Gafgarion's changed, guest sprite.

In any case in the very first scene and battle, Rad seems to have disappeared and Gafgarion has been changed to Balthier. So far I haven't been able to find a solution yet.

I'll post pics tonight to illustrate what I mean. Maybe one of you can help me out.

Do you still need the ripped sprite sheets for the psp version?

The new sprites are:

Onion Knight M/F
Dark Knight M/F
Balthier
Luso
Aliste
Bremondt Human/Dark Dragon

And there is a sprite sheet for a sword in a stone as well. Let me know and I'll send you which ever you need.
