Hey guys, I'm just wondering what's going on with Arena these days.  I was without a computer for about a month, and when I came back it seemed like things have died down quite a bit.  Has the idea of re-doing all the items stalled the project?  Or is it just that FFM and PX are busy with "real life"?  I'd hate to see this project die, as I believe it has a lot of promise.  It would be nice if people could touch base and let those of us who have been following Arena's progress (even if we haven't been helping as much as we should >_<) know what's going on.

I don't find the word "rape" offensive exactly, but I do think it's thrown about much too casually.  Because here's the thing.  A friend of mine was ACTUALLY raped.  She was fourteen.  She wanted to save herself for marriage.  It took her YEARS to get over it, if she really ever has.  She might not be able to have children now.  I can't see the word "rape" without thinking about what happened to my friend, and all the hurt it has caused her.

My purpose in making this topic is simply to call your attention to the difference between being "raped" in a video game and being, you know, raped.  You can turn a video game off.

Originally this was meant to be a "What are your three favorite video games?" topic, but I think I'm going to open it up.  What are your three favorite ANYTHING?  Please give some reasoning with your lists, and by all means feel free to rip on others for their bad taste.

Video Games:

FFT:  Vanilla has eaten up so many hours of my life that it's not even funny.  With the addition of 1.3, this game has been promoted to the BEST GAME EVER.  Challenge, replayability and customization put it at the top of the list.

Wizardry 8:  Again it's a case of customization and replay value.  Fourteen Classes and almost as many races combined with random monster and treasure spawns make this a game for the ages.  I've played this game innumerable times and I'm still finding new stuff.  Cemetery Reapers?  Axe of many Runes?  Who knew?

Grand Theft Auto:  San Andreas:  This game is HUGE and this game is HILARIOUS.  One of the best-written games I've ever played, and a ton of fun if you're just playing for fun or going for 100%.  Unlimited minigun ammo?  Yes please.

Authors:

China Mieville:  New Crobuzon is badass.  Some serious world-building here.  Humor and a touch of darkness make him essential reading.  Start with Perdido Street Station

Kurt Vonnegut:  A great blend of humor and philosophy.  Never has suicide been so funny.

Stephen King:  Say what you want about his contributions to society, the man is good at what he does.


So yeah, what are your favorite________?  Let's see some interesting stuff here.  Foods, Seasons, Sexual Positions, if you like them and there are at least three of them, let's see a list!

The shower is where I feel most at peace with myself and the world.  Personally I don't think there's anything better than a good shower before getting into a bed with freshly-washed sheets.  Everything is so clean!

Anybody play?  I call it Nerdcards and I love it. I only play casually (no Standard decks, etc.) but I have a decent collection of cards.  I just love the process of building a deck, going through the cards I have, test-playing and refining, perfecting my mana curve, going back to the drawing board and starting over....  I really think it's one of the best games ever made.

Some of the decks I'm running now that I especially like:

A Reanimator deck with Eldrazi (Annihilator two coming over on the third turn is damned scary).

A Turbo Fog deck with a stupid-nasty combo of Prismatic Omen and Last Stand.

A Naya deck with a sick Spearbreaker Behemoth/Novablast Wurm combo (not to mention an Armadillo Cloaked Uril the Mist Stalker- 9/9 Trample Lifelink untargetable beatstick).

A Blue Black Vice Deck that bounces your shit and is incredibly frustrating to play against.

...if I know next to nothing about computers?  I'd really like to start contributing to this site, but I have hardly any technological know-how.  Would spriting even be a good place to start?  I'm a decent writer if anyone needs help with dialog.  I just want to be able to do something besides post in Spam and General.  Help me help you!
