@Shintroy It's heartwarming to know that you are anticipating for my animations. I didn't want to admit this but the truth is...
I cannot create videos at the moment. Because as of now I have no access to a powerful pc, adobe premiere, and my beloved Powerpoint. Plus it's been a busy life for me nowadays. I wasn't even planning on joining this season but thanks to a friend who reached out I'm back here again!
When the stars align again someday, I promise to provide animation gifts again ;)

Before we start the tournament, Andante whenever you get a moment could you add in jaaster and bruinsgirl33? Because while jaaster was originally scheduled I forgot to add him and bruinsgirl was a last minute addition if necessary. I will export the team later
Also silentkaster is going to see if he can get 2 more people to join so we would avoid radically changing the brackets and just add a couple of more matches

jaaster is already in, he drew the first round bye with 37 participants. I'll add bruinsgirl33 tonight, but that will change all of the match-ups. I don't mind redoing the bracket to accommodate her or anyone else that will be added. In order for the recorders to start I'll need a hard number of entries so this doesn't happen again.
Edit - CT5Holy is a fount of knowledge! The matchups won't change and the newly added participants will be included.

Andante - you can re-create the brackets. In challonge, there's an option to pair the participants in the order they're listed. By using that option, you can recreate the current bracket while adding in extra contestants without a problem.

Twin single target faith based burst vs Oil strategy. Neither team seems to have status. I think skiploom will have the advantage due to burst damage usually beating aoe/status teams. R1 - Pretty convincing win. Looks like a heavy range advantage for the most part. R2 - Same deal. Range advantage[ GJ to Skiploom. DW's team just wasn't threatening in the mid range.
Earth absorb vs unorthodox balanced team No clue who will win this. Betting on DomieV due to being a fan of his S3 Run. R1 - Pretty convincing. Andrew just couldn't get any offense started. R2 - Great opening for Andrew. I don't see him losing this unless the scholars go down some how. One of Andrews Scholars goes down making it an even match. Real shame for DomieV to lose this due to three failed revival attempts. R3 - Missed Lay on Hands does it again. The Geomancer held the team back.
GG. Didn't know Spin Fist was smart targeting. Pretty OP since it also got a vertical buff. Must have been last minute again.
The other two I didn't watch since at the very beginning of the other videos the scores are displayed. Can the uploader show the entire team then go back and comment on each unit? A lot of teeth sucking or wincing in commentary, it's not good on the ears at all.

I almost cried. I was complaining in the discord for about an hour, I was absolutely humiliated. Your team actually has some of the most powerful things in 140a: White Magic and Spell guns. I tried telling them to nerf the range on those things after we buffed the WP, but nobody listened...

Trying not to be very salty here, but...my team didn't get to do ANYTHING AT ALL. There was no time to even have an offense because the 10 SP Archers have a whole 2 points of speed higher than my samurai so both go and sequentially render her useless. I'm trying to be objective about my match but it's not working at all. And yeah, like you said, range has A LOT to do with it too. I needed luck guard on the samurai, but couldn't fit it anywhere (believe me, I tried)... :(

I'm on a mission this time - to prove to myself that Dance isn't an even more shitty skillset now than it was back in 1.39. Plus, I decided to be 'that guy' to run both Dance and a full immobile team. I'm on a mission this time - to prove to myself that Dance isn't an even more shitty skillset now than it was back in 1.39. Plus, I decided to be 'that guy' to run both Dance and a full immobile team. Oh, dancer never sucked. But it needed a very tight setup. However. Your dances aren't the problem. The Lore is. The oil procs were just kill securing, but even without oil, the abilities would do enough damage. A berserk team with a ton of HP would be a viable counter. As long as it didn't run giant axe.

Only got to see match #14 live on Gatebuster's stream.
Balanced Team vs Charm/OHKO Rouroni will take this due to speed advantage. 13 Speed, Haste, high Evasion, GL overcoming that.
R1 - Good start for Argy. Didn't see the Blast Gun. Rouroni's may have the speed, but it doesn't matter when you can't stand up to single target burst. Phoenix Down revival seals it.
R2 - Same deal here up until the Charm. Good comboing Kiyo + Evasion. Charm's great to gaurantee crystals. GJ this round. GG
R3 - Started out even with teams spreading out way too much. Rouroni keeps turn advantage for the majority of the round with charm, kiyo, slow, and haste. So many wasted turns on Argy's side. What a turn around this has been.
GGs. Pretty heartbreaking for Argy to do so well then have charm take it all away... slowly. Good thing everyone's got a shot with this format

MS Switch does not stop all the damage... Spillover damage from the MP pool then hits HP. (So if you have 50 MP and take a comet to the face, you still lose 50 HP)

I got absolutely wrecked in that first game. I think I ended up getting pretty lucky in the last two games with so many effects missing me in spots that seemed pretty critical. GGs!

1st unit The team is designed to be status protected more than anything else. The reason i didn't go with 108 gems is to allow better protection from far worse issues such as charm and poison. Triangle hat to prevent innocent and black robes to cover the three element strengthening. The primatic rod simply for covering water. that is really it. as for Caution. i rather her be able to at least attempt to dodge rather than gettting whacked.
2nd unit. I understood the risk with using the bloodsword on my berserker. i also understood what i was doing with my items for him as well. He will never be broken out of berserk because of the maintanence support skill i gave him preventing breaks and more importantly to this analysis.. Thefts. He has no use for abilities if he is never getting out of berserk so again status immunity made more sense to me here.
3rd unit. I wanted this unit to try and reduce the enemy and its about time books got a good chance. She is the support healer of the team!
4th unit. in case your wondering about steal. its mostly so that it can be effected by martial arts. the steal abilities are effected by martial. it should counter the issue with missing.

So a couple of things I've noticed. I 100% think that you had the right idea with status protection but I think you over thought your team a bit. If you don't mind I'd like to try and give you some tips or at least my two cents. But this is just my opinion, none of it is set in stone as I'm still pretty new to arena myself and make mistakes with my units all the time.
First and foremost you went up against, two units who specific jobs were to nuke with Holy and D.Holy. With that being said Myu's team punishes people with low brave units so try and keep that in mind when watching the match. And he has a holy nuker very similar to mine. (Like literally almost move for move xD)
Your first unit, the wizard. I personally think the unit did her job. She casted powerful black magic constantly and ultimately did what she was supposed to do. I think overall this is your best unit. Now I understand your reasoning for Magic Ring however, despite charm being a dangerous status, don't act (arm aim, paralyze, blackmail, etc.) are far more common status and will prevent your unit from being able to cast spells and essentially do its job. :)
I also understand caution! Caution is a great move but it doesn't actually boost your evasion any. Considering you had a Magic Ring and not something like a mantle your lack of evasion didn't compliment caution. It seems like you built your Wizard to be a glass cannon and then just put evasion just cause you had JP xD. Caution would have been better suited for a caster with evasion or a shield and/or mantle. If you had the JP I would've recommended the following if you were worried about defense for this unit:
Projectile Guard MP Switch Auto Potion Damage Split Hp Restore Abandon (With a Mantle at least)
Also the first unit also had summon magic for moogle, fairy and carbunkle. I understand you wanted to branch out but I think there may have been better choices. White Magic for Raise and Cure 4 possibly? You weren't walking around with Piety, MA Up or Pilgrimage so maybe Time Magic or YY.Magic for status effect may have also been good. With the unit already having MP-Up, it didn't necessarily need carbunkle.
Barren once said if you have a unit who's job is damage dealing, giving it support moves may backfire cause the unit will have too many options and not do what you want it to do.. It's just something to think about. :)

Your 2nd Unit: I totally understand why you went the berserk route with attack up. In fact, his build is quite similar to a Blood Kage build awhile back. However, being so afraid of charm + steal I think gave you some missed opportunity here. This unit was supposed to walk in and deal some real damage. However only hitting for 99-140ish is not good for a melee unit. Considering how particular a melee unit has to be in terms of damage, move, status protection, speed and fitting into your overall team, they usually need to sacrifice something in order to be effective.
However damage is something you want a berserk unit to do above all else. And I think you would've gotten more bang for your buck with Attack Up/Warpath or Two hands/Warpath, etc. PA Save as well possible just to just pour even more damage on the table.
If the unit was able to drop the Geomancer or deal more damage to the Time Mage, you definitely would've been in better shape. You did have the necessary Darkness protection which is good! But I do think Escutcheon II may have been a better option just for some overall magic and physical defense. The Dragon Spirit to try and grab a reraise so you didn't have to worry about the unit being raised was an interestting thought process but if you had the shield it could've potentially taken less damage by having more evasion.
DISCLAIMER: I am really bad at making melee units so I am not one to talk extensively about them xD -----
So you were making a WM/Time Mage unit which is part of the "Meta" right now. However, I think given your overall want to have a unit that reduces the enemy, you should've just had a unit who spams holy with the ability to hold a shield.
A Geomancer could've sufficed for example or even a WM Squire or the usual meta with a Time Mage with White Magic which seems to be all the rage. If you were looking for Time Magic just to provide some disruption I think that your spells were on point but I don't think you should have Both Holy and TM abilities. The unit may not do what you wanted to do.
Cure 2-3 are very strong options but considering that you want the unit to use its other abilities, maybe just Cure 4 would've been a better pick just so it could have used a quick and powerful cure and continued with its actions.
Outside of that, you gave the Wizard summon magic, you could've also made this unit into a Summoner with WM (since you wanted to try out books) and grabbed the Necronomicon for book hits, possible undead and then follow up with a raise 2 for some instant KO's. Just some combos to think about!
----- I think that this Monk is build really good! I may have went with Earth slash instead of repeating fist with some earth elemental but that's just semantics. I think the Steal Heart is a nice touch and it definitely worked on Myu's units! However, it didn't mesh well with your berserk unit who kept attacking the closest units knocking them immediately out of charm.
In addition the attacks, as I mentioned before didn't pack that much of a punch. (Granted all of Myu's units have low brave as well so it was countering your physical attacks) However I do think you had an overall good idea here. You could've also went Gil Toss, Steal Heart and accessory. Given that Steal weapon has such a low chance of success. -----
Again those are just my opinions so they aren't some super pro analysis and I'm definitely not the best in Arena. But I want you to know that your thought process was sound and that you aren't doing anything wrong. Just some tweaking here and there to bring it up to competitive levels!
Also keep in mind all of myu's units are casters. Time Mage, Geo, Wizard and Spellgun archer. With their low brave and optimized spell damage it wasn't a direct counter but the team had counter measures to your team. Also outside of the black mage who's job was to deal damage, the ability to resurrect was limited in terms of how much the units actually healed. Raise 1, Revive and even Fairy don't compare to Raise 2's full heal.
And despite your units' spells (in the 2nd match) being able to go off before Myu's, they just didn't hit hard enough to kill some of his more dangerous units outside of the archer.
Also you shouldn't get down over the loss, Myu's team was using some of the most strongest abilities in the game right now and you were using a berserk unit and a monster dict user which are some unpopular unit setups and you weren't optimizing for damage and status protection. There was nothing wrong with your team just a matter of clashing strategies. I'm pretty sure you'll do fine later in the tournament!

Long match, an entertaining standoff as both teams refuse to back down. I really like Dokurider's team here with all that Bizen boat that acts offensively on enemies and heals on allies. Not only that, that Magic Song will only put the team's MA up the roof! Brilliant! Your team is so good that even the berserk archer joined on your side LOL. It is on this match where you will see the disadvantage of a berserked ranged unit explained in 2 rounds.
R1 = Dat potion exchange between the chemist and the mime. What an amazing moment right there. A sharp and sexy move. R2 = The berserk archer's misses are too much to bear. He likes to miss his shots doesn't he? Just when you thought he finally has that vantage point, he creates a miracle and continues to miss.
After watching your match, two things were in my head: - if the archer wasn't berserk, what could have happened? - I hope I don't get to face Doku's team. low faith + projectile guard + holy absorb? The exact countermeasures needed for team skiploom. Dw6561, if you are reading this, please cheer for this team. He may be the one that will make me pay for the destruction of your team and hopefully, let you go of your grudge :)
Another entertaining standoff. Great show of force on both teams. It's really interesting to see how Rouroni's team managed to pull those reversals on R2 & R3. It's a great demonstration of resilience.

Hmm, I seem to have made a typo on Bizen Missile II. She was supposed to have a Murasame. Well in any case, Gatebuster does have a point, lower range = better berserk usage, with 1 Range being the least threatening to your team. This is why Melee Berserkers have been the most practical build in Arena's history.
It's rather infuriating that an otherwise decent team loses because of deliberately coded stupidity. Given all of our recent advances in ASM and documentation of FFT's code, it's more and more of a reality that we can even fix this idiocy. It's not quite there yet, because the AI routines are even still relatively undocumented because they are scary, possibly running on magic, and most of all, are very confusing.
In any case, good luck on your next matches, Andante. Hopefully, your Gunner will do something besides shoot his own teammates and the wall.

Unorthodox Oil/Melee vs Stalling Mime
R1 - Unbalanced map. P2 starts boxed in. Not a balanced map at all due to the pillar. Starts off pretty decent until my team gets forced to split up. Quick round only due to the map.
R2 - The only neutral map in the set so my team's allowed to position itself. Pretty even at the start. It takes a good 15 minutes for things to happen. Clutch mime tanking 3 units allowing the rest of the team to take out the monk. Due to Andante's team having no endgame potential the round's ends after the monk crystallizes.
R3 - Another map that starts with P2 boxed in unless their speed's higher than P1. To top that off it's a smaller map than R1's. The exact same thing that happened in R1 happens here. Pretty stupid to lose to the map and not the player. After the archer loses it's pretty much over unless the mime somehow is in position to charm a male when the chemist tries to charm the scholar.
Interesting team Vigilante. It wasn't a good game due to the unbalanced maps though. The way these teams are made, whoever was player 1 with the maps chosen was likely to win. on maps 1 and 3.
Map 97 (S) isn't small due to the starting positions and player 2 starts off boxed in. Remove the pillar to balance it. Map 49 (M) Fort Zeakden. This map's starting position makes it a small one. Player 2 starts off boxed in. I don't see a way to balance this map unless both teams start off behind the buildings. There doesn't seem to be a way to have a neutral start for this map without a redesign.
Balanced vs Offensive Magic
No idea who will take this. Both teams have new an interesting builds. Truelight's Time Mage and Mudvayne's use of Rune Blade have a lot of potential.
R1 - Pretty even start. Truelight's speed advantage ends up overwhelming Mudvayne though. Such is the life of most casters on small maps.
R2 - RNGesus favored no team in this round. Odin dead procs on one side and Leg aim proccing stop on the other. If mudvane can keep it up he'll win due to range advantage and the ninja going down early. It's hard for high SP teams to bring back a unit with no recovery options without raise 2.
R3 - Truelight's archer double turning the geomancer for the rare ghetto stop status effect made me aware fo both teams lack of haste and slow. The demi redirect near the end sealed it for Mudvayne despite him taking out Truelight's Ninja early.
GG. Questionable choices by the AI at the end. Why let the same unit redirect 3 spells in such a short time span?
Anti Tank vs Holy Absorb Mime Betting on mime despite Andante winning last year's tournament.
R1 - GG Bridge. Not the map's fault this time around. Berserk gun and crossbow isn't too great on most maps. If the archer had targeted correctly he still probably would've hit his own team. Andante almost made a comeback with 3 units against 4 plus mimicry.
R2 - GG berserk Romanda gun. More range means you're more likely to hit a wall or teammate. If it had been stone gun this would've been more interesting.
GG. Not at all like my map situation since Andante's loss here was due to his berserk 8 range gunner and not maps without fair starting positions. Funny that we face in R2.

Round 2: That really is exactly how I'd hoped my team would work. Overpowering damage from a distance that stops the opposing team from getting close. Having such a large, empty map really nailed it. Lancer remembered he had Jump. Geo finally remembered she had Geomancy.
That poor Monk couldn't catch a break.

About damn time my team gets to flex their muscles! Axl doesn't get useless'd at the start of a match, X gets to pick off weakened units and nail 2-3 units with every Cover Fire (and somehow be the only unit in the team to ever go down in either match, heh), Zero spears bitches in the face by land or air, and Iris doing good on the support role. Gotta love that 508 damage jump too. Good match and happy to have my first win!

Stalling Mime vs Physical/Status I completely forgot about endgame potential in teams. Endgame can counter my team under the right conditions since it's not a good idea to have a match drag against a team or uniti that can strengthen itself. Anyway. Andante has no armored units so I should have the advantage. It all comes down to the thief hitting my archer or charming my mime and time mage due to the archer not being a threat against any of my units, at least until it gets higher brave.
R1 - Even opening with both sides affected by status. RNG sides with me after that with Andante's thief failing multiple charms and his archer failing to get through projectile guard. It was over once the time mage and archer went down.
R2 - Lucky opening with both Andante's chemist and archer being down at the start. I was in a bit of a loop until Steal Weapon happened. Andante still had charm and talk skill on his side so he wasn't out of it. Pretty sad that the berserked archer didn't do much work until his weapon got stolen.
GG. Didn't expect the two of us to lose round 1 and I definitely didn't see us fighting right away in R2.
Good call on redoing the entire set instead of just the game. My team's designed to crystallize units one by one while keeping the other units disabled and had a strong lead before the bug happened. This doesn't count the bugged round as a win since to most it's not a convincing enough lead, so having a third match on the same map as a tiebreaker wouldn't have been a good call. I'm glad in the new set I won convincingly with steal weapon because that third map would've been another automatic loss due to an unbalanced map. Where player 2 goes depends entirely on where player 1 goes. Whether they go to the center or the map or on top the the houses doesn't matter since player 2 has a harder time getting to the units due to the gate and house on player 1's side. Would've dropped out of the tournament if I lost to a bug and unbalanced map in the same set.
Oil vs Balanced team I prefer well rounded teams over most for match up reasons. Celdia's Burst damage should counter DW's
R1 - The Counter Flood and Ice combo was brutal. Carve Model to seal it too? Fast as hell. It seems DW's unit order could've been better to make them split up better. Having units with similar move and range isn't good against aoe teams.
R2 - Unbalanced map for player 1. DW's team has to get around the corner and due to the way the AI acts it'll just have them line up near the houses to get to player 2.
GG in Round 1, but not at all in R2. If player 1 had the same starting position as player 2 this would've had a less bias outcome. A little of the Geomancer curse, and a lot of bad map balancing.
Map 002 1 - Make Player 1's starting position mirror player 2's 2 - Make player 1's side of the map mirror player 2's so that it can't escape to the rooves or do the opposite.
Twin Burst vs Unorthodox Team. Male Summoner with 238 HP AND TWO PALADINS? Godspeed.
R1 - Unbalanced map. player 2 has a wall to get around when player 1 can use that same wall to attack from because there's a hill on their side. As expected Altair starts off at a disadvantage. The summoner seems to counter skiploom's entire team with reflect ring and Death/Lich being incredibly accurate on 70 faith units + faith rod. The projectile Guard is just unnecessary roughness. What a twist. Altair came back despite the map disadvantage.
R2 - Not sure who has the advantage on this map. Skiploom's unit order is paired so that the priests and archers can split up. Skiploom takes this due the priests not being on the same side as the summoner.
R3 - The summoner goes down early just like my hopes and dreams for this summoner build.
GG. Brave stuff with your team Altair.
Map 115 (S) - Banished Fort just posting this map for later for the unbalanced map list. Depending how it's balanced it could be reclassed as a medium. The only reason it's small is because of how fast one team can get to the other.

I just feel like King Arthur ruins the team. He seems to not want to move in and tank when that is his job. I think I need to completely redo him to make him effective. The summoner was the ultimate class but he can only do so much without help from the tank. All in all it was a good match and I didn't do horrible for my first tourney but I am very disappointed by King Arthurs lack of heroism despite his name.

GG Andrew, your team is quite strong with those earth slashes and bio 3s. Thankfully however on my part my slight speed advantage and more options on damage came through and my chemist does what she does best and dodge a lot of things. So far Warpath Archer is paying off....but for how long?
I didn't expect Otabo to lose because his teams seems to powerful when it starts to snowball its way through other teams. Though that's only on a large map that his team gets to shine. Dol showed everyone that smaller maps plus cover fire and punch art damage can put a hurt on tanky teams. Innocent and charm helped out too.

Sorry for the long game guys, you'll get that with mid damage lore against a team that can take it. Lore trips out Nappa's AI, so he is constantly in the area where he finds nameless song acceptable. I take the good with the bad on that one. Also didn't realize spin fist was smart targeting, probably would have helped though I'm trying not to overload vegeta's priorities. So far so good I suppose.
GG kashkabald! 40 fa and auto potion is the hard counter to your team, so the odds were really against you on this one. Hope you don't mind if I borrow your mime for a moment? Actually hoping a poorly built dark holy user targets nappa one day.. One day.
Equal parts excited and mortified to see your team next, but I'm sure it'll make for a great match regardless. Only one of us can walk away unscathed, so may the best team win!

Really good match. My team can have issues engaging well on a small map, and I just got wrecked. Conversely, we tend to make a strong impression on the Large Maps provided Lore teams don't blast us into oblivion. ;)

@Truelight oh boyyyyyyyyy your team was way too good for me to beat. High damage, high sandbagging, good range, good damage at close range, status buff/ailments. I'm surprised I could even take a game off of you! Your ninja was absolutely crazy, one shotting even my tanky paaldin like it was nothing. I feel like I have a strong team (Paladin could've used some work though) but you blew through it like it was nothing! GGs.

Wow. Round 1 was super, super intense. Clutch melt! Your monk was just going bananas on my team at the end there! I really thought you were going to pull the win off. Round 2 I got off to an early start and my all out magical offense team was just too much to come back from. GG man!
Thanks to everyone for the matches so far. I've watched quite a bit of the tourney so far, just haven't commented much. Can't wait to see how the rest plays out.

Stalling Mime vs Spell Gun
Not much to say about this one. Maps were neutral and I had the advantage match up wise due to status potentially beating spell gun teams, projectile guard, and Jumza's priest not having an answer for poison. Her Piety Cure IIs do 300+ with all that MA making Cure III almost unnecessary. The better pick would've been either Cure + Cure III or Cure II + Regen. I would've went with the latter since Regen is one of the best status effects in the game acting as a natural counter to poison and turn saver.
Still wish I had a White Robe on my Time Mage. GG
Status/100% Ranged vs ?? Not sure if CT5 was going for an air absorb team and forgot defense ring is lightning absorb or not. Either way I'm betting on Jump Monk over Draw Out Monk
R1 - Questionable opener for Anima's team. Learned real quick in testing it wasn't a good idea to give a damage dealing unit leg's aim over arm aim. The power of AoE pulls through. Didn't notice CT5 had Raise 2 Would've bet on him if I did due to it usually countering single target teams.
R2 - Don't really have to watch R2 due to there being only 2 minutes left. I see what CT5 was going for with the wind absorb now. I appreciate this strategy a lot. Resilient front line units with disruption, anti sandbag, and support in the back. BRUTAL ending.
GG. Very convincing win. I don't think this could've gone any other way.
Can't wait for #47 and #58 Wish you could've entered Zotis. Definitely wanted to see your caster team this year. Huge fan when spectating you, not against as a combatant :3c. I don't understand casters.

Me vs WKW. I liked The Team, white knight. Healing on every unit, raise 2 to make sure no one wasted a second turn. Ice protection and Projectile Guard to shut down my team. On Round 1 I was fairly certain it woul go either way. However, when the Paladin ran up to the top of the map, and that prevented him from being effective. Also, he got tied up trying to kill the Time Mage...
Round 2 saw a bit of a repeat, the Ninja was a prime target for redirecting the Bios, but the timing happened to land in the scholar's favor. I think that Ninja is not the optimal Item unit. It was a good match though.

Corosar, perhaps next time you might give your team to a few people to give you feedback? Do you have the program to test matches yourself? A lot of times, I come up with ideas that look great on paper but the AI just doesn't do what I want it to do. I still do this. When you see my tournament team for this season, it's the fifth draft of plenty of ideas that I came up with...and most were able to beat a gauntlet of ten teams that I put together to test. But they didn't start that way...it started with individual units. And I still lost this most recent match despite all the testing and effort put in. (I don't mind spoiling it because both Alfa and I already know and have discussed the result, and most people on the forum have as well.)
That being said, it's not reflecting on you as a person if you win or lose. The AI is hard to understand and having played a ton of mods and Vanilla extensively for years (I'm one of the oldest if not the oldest in Arena so when I say years, I mean years), and a lot of times, you just need another pair of eyes to see something you missed. I showed my team to Barren, CT5, and a couple others and each one had different suggestions where I was able to culminate what you see today.
I'd be happy to look at your team any time, but I know you're close with Reks and I'm sure he'd be able to help you too in creating your team(s) going forward. When you'd make it, it'd still be "your" team...it just means you're getting a second opinion to see if you missed anything or if it could be optimized better. For example, there are certain abilities I almost never look at and forget about that could boost my team. Even though they are right there in the MG, I overlook them. Perhaps you are too?

I am not totally sure you know... but based on what you said... you did not.... I did have it reviewed by other people... i even made small changes to try and counter the effects of the ai on stupidity. originally my blackmage had poison on its skill line. so i just need to relearn this patch's AI. too much has changed and it has fully thrown me off. At least last patch i knew half of what i was doing. i actually felt i was getting a grasp of things... 1.4 has made me feel like i am retarded and its gonna take me time to get out of this 100% loss rut. again... need to relearn the algorithms the AI impliments... hopefully after the tournament... i can go back.. and start anew with my teams for this patch.

You're not the only one, my friend. That's mostly the reason I haven't even submitted a team into the Team Submissions yet. I've been testing teams, concepts, strats and etc. since 1.4 came out, too. I could whip out teams left and right, testing out concepts and strategies and etc, regardless if they were viable or not back in 1.38/1.39 - I had almost 15 teams at one point. Yet, now I can barely put a decent team together in 1.4. In fact, the team I submitted for this tournament is the first team I've submitted since 1.4's release. Just too many changes at once. A lot of changes are good, and some changes, personally IMHO, don't even make sense to me, but it is what it is, I suppose. I dunno - that's just how I feel about it really.
Small map I knew I would lose from the start, so there's nothing I really need to say about that. 3rd round was close; that missed Raise, though. Ouch. I think I lucked out on this one, seriously. GG.

The main reason i have not been testing recently is because i have lost 4/5ths of my harddrive space and have gone into a very careful harddrive management state since. Been afraid to download or make anything because of it. I really need to get 1.4 installed on my system... and figure out all the settings for PSX again. i had it so nice before.

Damn, that was a spanking. Suppose that's what nappa gets for cheating :p Berserk and zombie have always wrecked this team, but since nobody runs berserk, odds are I won't see a berserk team. Alas, don't act/charmed 0 times this season, already berserked 3 times and zombified twice! Random status protection and holy null ensured the steamroller never lost speed.
Great game, gaignun. Always hard to watch my team take a licking, but knowing how well your team is designed takes the sting out a bit. No shame in being beaten by a master. Best of luck in the next rounds!

BAD NEWS: I want to explain my situation if it is okay. I can't make the animations like I used to because it's been a busy couple of months lately (I'm studying abroad). Not only that, even if I tried all my tools/materials are scattered everywhere (Powerpoint I use is from someone else's laptop, Video conversion I can only do in school because there's Adobe Premiere in most of the computers, and if I want to upload it I can only do it at home because school internet is sooo slow. So in other words, home and school have to work together if I want to get even one video done. The stars are there, but not totally aligning...

I'm glad you liked it Barren, thanks! I figured that I wanted to do a different style for the video since we are on Swiss style so I went for an ending that would reflect this type of tournament. Where both teams battle for the wins instead of a battle to the death. At least that's what I think. HA I'm putting too much thought into this.
A shiny Hoppip named after me? I would like that! So will you evolve it to Skiploom or all the way to Jumpluff? Because keeping it as a Skiploom from Lv 27 onwards will be a big responsibility (Pressing B everytime it levels up).

I know it really doesn't suit as a long term companion because it's not fully evolved, cannot learn HM moves, and has 5 weaknesses. Please bear with it. I was really really worried i would have gotten skunked in this tournament. I really hope no one else goes through that. but none the less it is a bit of a relief. Eternal definitely had the higher power. but with my team i tried to design it with redundancies everywhere to try and cancel out damage. Moogle Bloodsword Chakra and Cure 3. With revive Fairy and raise. i am always worried about a unit going down and it being my last reviver. When i have the room to actually keep half the team out of combat range. This team seems to do better. I hope after the tournament to try and revise this team a bit. make it more. combat ready. Still none the less. I hope eternal's next match goes alot better for him GG eternal.

From what I read on discord it appears that the schedule for the hosts to do their matches hasn't been the greatest lately. If neither TrueLight or CT5Holy can do the next batch of matches I can help out with doing the next portion of matches whenever I get free time from college.
I am doing pretty good so far without any real struggle of some sort. So If I am needed please let me know and I will do what I can to help again.

Stalling Mime vs Burst Faith Went into this knowing it was a bad match up (Still wishing I had white robe). The only answer against spell gunners I have is steal weapon, and since it's paired with an item user it's less likely to happen due to how passive item units act.
R1 - Map 97 again. Horrible starting position for me. My units were stuck under the tunnel structure for half of the match making the team split up into pairs. It was in gatebuster's favor up until his scholar or time mage kept going down. The loop was broken when the time mage finally got a turn and stopped the mediator. 70 faith? GG. Steal weapon sealed this round. At no point should pausing during a match be allowed in tournament Gatebuster didn't comment on it live so there was no need to restart then and there. He could've done it if he wanted to though. I would've even with a lead. Too bad I'm not around when the stream is live.
R2 - Map 84, B. Hill. I didn't comment on the map being wrongfully labeled due to this being a bad match up for me. Both maps were either small or medium. We'll get into maps after the tournament or at least before the next. No more depending on one person to categorize things
Actual R2 - Mutual death loops and another steal weapon to seal it. What more needs to be said? The deciding point of the match is my archer and mime forcing gatebuster's team into support mode healing the lancer. It allowed my time mage and chemst to get in range and gain momentum.
GG. Gatebuster we both had the same idea with glacier gun being the best gun this season. Stop protection and ice absorb on accessory? More reasons to rebalance accessories so that they don't match up with weapons (Ice Bow adds Stop).

My team needed a few edits that I just didn't have time to see before we started the tournament. That being Said... Round 1 I could have had a win early on but the number of talk skills that landed was well over 50% and that burned me. I do agree that Pauses Should not happen. However, you were not Live, and had the lead. (The pause was to indeed check if my weapon was stole, which I had seen that it already was. It was not at my request. However, Kashkabald is the newest of the Streamers and to the community.) I was not going to request a restart as I knew that our matches were purely dictated on Map and % Talk Skills that landed. It would have actually been more unfair to you then me. You took Round 1 due to the Mediator thinking Refute was a good idea instead of shooting people with the Glacial gun that could be killed by it and you, as you mentioned, predicted that Ice would be the better element and let others get weeded out for using Lightning and Fire.
Round 2. Was a hot mess, medium to short map that burned me. One person was saddled with the responsibility of organizing the maps and no one went back over them til the last minute. Season Five might go down as the most correction from a tournament. (I wasn't here when these things went in, but we are working on maps now. Not griping just pointing this out.) i couldn't win the map when I saw my team split, and couldn't over come their ineptitude. GG Shintroy, you worked hard on a team that requires a lot of prayer and good mime use/positioning.

Pretty exciting match here. Round 1 didn't go in my favor, but hilarity ensued in round 2 when the dead male Summoner's Reflect Ring got involved with shenanigans from Iris, resulting in two stopped Paladins (and don't move getting inflicted on the turn after for insult to injury), thereby sealing my win there.
Round 3 I think Altair would have had a chance to win in had King Arthur decided not to challenge Zero to one on one combat. Doubly so when Iris steps in with the cheap shot and disables him.
As for the rest of his team....they were getting stymied by Axl & X. If one of them went down to Death casting shenanigans, they almost always got picked right back up. By the time Zero finished his duel, the other three units were pretty much dead and a win was secured with a little effort. GG Altair!

Hey everyone as we know that the tournament is inching towards the end and while it wasn't in the initial discussion when putting the tournament together, by the end of round 6 we're going to do a top 12 bracket based on the top twelve records since gatebuster mentioned that a lot of people will end up with the same record.
Please during the week if you are in favor of this post here and I will PM andante on adding more matches towards the tournament. However the semi finals and finals are set as they are

Then what I will do is hold a tie breaker match where two people at the bottom of the top 12 with the same record will fight it out. If that is too complicated. Then we could do a top 16 instead. It evens out the singles bracket and doesn't require players being seeded

For tiebreakers, I suggest to refer to the scores on the right of the table. For instance, someone who's 3-3 but constantly has been winning with 2-1 and losing 0-2 is, in my view, lower ranked than another 3-3 player who's won his matches 2-0 and lost 1-2.

Well, Doubt Faith just cost me my last chance of making it to the second bracket. I knew I would lose the large map due to too much distance to cover (it's one of the largest maps in Arena), but also partly because of the overall squishyness of my team. I am in agreement here. I haven't done any math, but I suspect that we will have deal with tied scores even with a larger elimination bracket. Tiebreaking is what the Buchholz and Points Difference systems are used to resolve.
Nevertheless, a larger elimination is bracket is fine provided our hosts have the time and energy to conduct it.

I've got some catching up to do here: It's been a great tournament so far thanks for the videos guys.
Alfa's team obliterated me in round 2. Round 1 was just too much status going Redworlds way. Round 4 I got pretty lucky getting through projectile guard quite a bit to get passed Dokurider. 3, 5, & 6 my team been showed good resiliency in a couple of the matches to make comebacks where it could have easily been losses. I don't feel it's enough to take the tournament, maybe a top 5 finish.

Sorry guys for delaying the remainder of Round 6, so how much has happened for me (mostly personal life) lately and it's has been negatively affecting me so I need to relieve myself of the stress for a bit. The second half bracket has been updated with the top 16 as listed. Seeing how Challonge's default settings for tiebreakers were used without a consensus or discussion, before the tournament continues does anyone have strong feelings or thoughts as to other tie-breaking methods?

I did make this team with little thought because I couldn't really come up with a fresh idea despite the fact that there were new things to try so I went with what worked in the past. What frustrates the hell out of me is that no matter how much I adapt to new patches or good I strive to be, I can never make a championship quality team. I know it may sound petty to some but ever since I got close to winning back in Season 1, (I almost made it to the Grand Finals), I was inspired to keep trying. And while I may have been a consistent performer I can never get that close again. Let alone win the whole tourney. My luck really turned rotten this season due to horrible matchups, bad map selection that puts my team in a heavy disadvantage, and most importantly, how dumb my AI acted in the end. I don't know if I'll enter next tourney or not. I probably just need a break from competitive team building for the time being. When I clear me head, I'll be back for sure

Aside from the historical differences, this is pretty much spot on to how I've felt.
It's supposed to be all about the fun, but not doing well really puts a wrench in the gears, and I've caught myself not really wanting to keep participating.
Now don't get me wrong: I will always love Arena. But when you stare at the memcard Gen for an hour without the slightest fresh idea or even motivation to put together what normally works, you know you need a break.
So I'll make vocal my hiatus - since I just kinda vanished without a word - and while I'll participate in any form of tournament that pops up, Arena's gotta get shelved until I can come back with a fresh, ready to brawl mind.

The championship team is not necessarily the most interesting team. Rather, it is typically the team that uses the most broken setup. One of my favourite teams this season is CT5Holy's with its Draw Out Monk. I wouldn't say it is the strongest team of the lot, but its use of PA-based AoE is fascinating.
Looking back on my own championship (way back in the dinosaur ages of FFT 1.3), I attribute my success to my Draw Out + Abandon Wizard. That thing was broken af: its low HP and stupidly high evasion made it an AI trap.
Then, in FFTA season 1, I made it to the championship round on the strength of a Holy spamming Bard. Back then Holy pierced M-Ev. Little wonder Holy got nerfed during the following patch!
After awhile, spellgun spam was the dominant strategy. Didn't we have a single class tournament a year or two ago in which spellgun-toting mediators and chemists cleaned house?
The nice thing about the current tournament is that every player is guaranteed six matches in spite of performance. I was originally going to try a stupid 15 SP Jump spam strategy before chickening out and putting all my chips on Chirijiraden and Raise 2 (again). If we have another Swiss tournament in the future, I think I need to be more stupid.
It is always nice to see your teams, Barren, but I understand the value of a break. Hopefully there will be a new patch with a new box of toys to play with when you return.

Thanks for your words Gaignun, I do appreciate your thoughts and perspective on the whole thing. I'll do my best to not let it bring me down any further than it did.
At least I know I didn't completely suck this tourney but I did cringe in seeing my team in such a disadvantage I felt powerless. With that said, I didn't really put any thought into the team to begin with because I couldn't think of anything interesting for the tourney despite new stuff already being introduced.
And to be honest, I should have tried to experiment more but I went with what worked for me in the past. Maybe when the next patch is released I'll think of more new things to incorporate builds that I can make work despite others turning the other cheek

This was the longest FFTA tournament of all, wasn't it? To think we opened registration in the summer...

Great thanks to the video hosts and tournament help. It was fun tournament.
Congratulations to Gaignun for winning the tournament (that ninja is brutal) and good job on Mudvayne/Truelight/Shintroy on placing 2nd/3rd/4th. For how my team I feel I improved from last year's run and I had a feeling synth would avenge his lost from earlier in the tournament in this rematch. I think my team got a little lucky against positioning itself in the maps better in the earlier match against him.
Edit: If FFH Olympics looks similar it's b/c I basically made a last second rehash of The Hype is Real... I was original trying to make 1.4 version of Windly Embrace but I scrapped it at the last minute b/c I didn't feel it would be balanced enough to face the various different teams.

Quite embarrassing to lose 0-3 in the finals. GG Gaignun, your team dominated me. I am absolutely amazed that I made it all the way to the finals though, I never though this team would go that far! Excellent tournament all in all and thank you to all the hosts for all your hard work recording.
