Title: Let there be democracy
Post by: Xifanie on November 30, 2010, 07:41:11 am
Let's not lie, these days are rough for me and FFH is not helping. The decisions I take put a considerable amount of stress and I've reached my limit...
Since you people don't like my decisions anyway, I hope someone else is better fit for the post.

So, Presidential candidates, speak your word here. In 3 days I'll create a topic to allow people to vote.

By Dome:
"Zodiac, as I already said in IRC, this "Fresh start", as you call it, won't change the fact that someone will always complain, no matter what: It's impossible to make everyone happy. But, it's also true that this is a very painful/hard moment for you, and you don't have much time/will to stay here in the FFHotel...
Remember, even if you banned me for my bluewaffle post, I will miss you (The only thing I won't miss is the g0d hate...who cares if there is a magic being in the sky or not?)

Anyway, back to business...I don't think I'm the best suited for this role, but it's also true that I'm good at taking insults and I'm also very tollerant...so I'd like to propose myself
And, even if I'm not going to become the new Admin, I want to propose myself as the new general mod, because I'm good at organizing things (You can see the CoP section as reference)
I have nothing more to say...
See you next time Zod, and good luck with your life issues!"

END OF DOME'S POST

Hello - said Kage!
Title: Re: Let there be democracy
Post by: Eternal on November 30, 2010, 09:58:46 am
If I may be so bold, I nominate myself.

I know the majority of the community fairly well, except for some of the people who don't come onto IRC very often, and I'm on all the time (thanks in part to my almost-unemployment and lack of a life, apparently. :P)

I try to stay calm and look at both sides of a situation before acting, and ultimately, try to act as fairly to everyone as I can. I know I'm not really a veteran on here, like some people on here are, but I really think that with as much time as I spend on FFH, I could make sure it runs decently in Zodiac's absence. My biggest weakness, I think, would be the technical aspects of running the site, like if it gets hacked again. However, I know there are people out there who could guide me in such a case.

In regards to contributing to the site, I've contributed content for both Mercenaries and Call of Power, and am currently working on my own patch with the help of some other members of the community.

I've seen how this community is run, and I'd follow those methods. So, uh, vote for Eternal for admin for a non-chaotic FFH!

Also, Zodiac, I fully support your decision. But we've spoken about that before. So good luck, and enjoy your new life!

Zodiac, you will be missed.

I nominate philsov if he'll take the job.

If phil doesn't want it I think Eternal would be a good candidate.

I wasn't expecting this but if that's how its really going down then should there not be a poll on the matter? I'd go for Eternal as well...

I vote for Et as well. Zod, take your time, and be happy! I remember I really was against your TG stuff too(and you probably remember it too), but thanks to you, I became more tolerant. I know it may sound cliche or anything, but I really am more tolerant now. So See you soon Zod, I will miss you :(

QuoteI nominate philsov if he'll take the job.

If the front page gets hacked or anything else high-techy occurs I'll have no clue what to do and I'm never in chat.  I wouldn't mind juggling new forums and wielding the banhammer but I have no desire to mess with the behinds the scenes stuff.

Eternal for sure. And nice hat philsov ;P. You will be missed Zod =-(

I would gladly propose myself, but I trust my influence on Eternal would be great enought to suffice if I do not agree with stuff. Plus, I am lazy and still unsure about quitting, so that would be shit. So Il vote for Eternal, wich I know can do a lot of work and produce things while keeping a cool head about the banhammer rules.

Zodiac- I know you don't like Eternal (as of my last news), and me, but i'd like to point out your administering of the site was pretty good - not the politics and rules, however. I suggest (and kinda hope) you stay in a administering position just in case something happens that Eternal could not do (change the site, maybe, informatic stuff...?), and continue your work on KoI, wich would be truly amazing for the community.

The thing is - I love this site, but the way personnals views influence it, it is shit.

(vote for me for a lazy site !!)

Aw..Well, I'm sad you're leaving, or taking a break from FFH Xif. Which ever your choice is, I hope you feel less stressed =)

As for my vote, I too vote for Et. He's pretty smart, and seems to make logical decisions. If anyone was to help keep FFH all nice and neat while you're gone, it'd most likely be Et (and Philsov as well as a few other people, such as Kage)

Et, because he likes to slap me with large trouts.

No, jk.

Eternal. But philsov should be a moderator IMO.

Yeesh, what has happened...

Sorry to hear it, Zodiac.  Hope everything goes okay in your life.

My vote WILL be for Eternal when the voting comes up.

By all means Zodaic, take all the time away you need, but I do hope that you'll come back sooner or later, even if not in as quite an active role. I've been reading over all the drama that has happened in recent days, culminating in Voldemort's SECOND Ragequit resulting in the unwaranted destruction of other people's work.

*sigh*

anyhow, for what its worth, I have always felt that your admistration of the site has been nothing short of exemplary, and I still have trust in you and your leadership.

philsov seems reluctant to take the role, and I don't want to force it on him, so my vote goes to Eternal. Although I think co-adminship to both will be the best choice.

I second some form of co-adminship too, it sounds better tbh.

[s:2iat9vv2]I nominate Dome. He's a bit of a spammer, but seems to work well under pressure (considering all the crap you guys give him) and is interested in the site.[/s:2iat9vv2]
EDIT: Seems I'm WAAAY behind the times.

[s:2iat9vv2]If Dome reputation here is too... suspect, then[/s:2iat9vv2] Eternal seems a good candidate to me.

No use in voting right now.
Especially if philsov doesn't want to be a candidate solo, or doesn't want to teamwork with Eternal; the choice is up to him.

Quoteif philsov doesn't want to be a candidate solo

Pretty much.  I don't mind running the forum (in fact it'd be kinda cool), but I would have a problem running the website.

So unless someone else speaks up, gogo Eternal.  I'll aid in my top capacity though :)

I'm with Phil on that, actually. I have no problem with the forums, but I'd be at a loss on the actual website. That's why I suggest there be two admins, one for the forum/IRC and one for the site itself.

I think we need to find someone willing to take care of the hole site in general.

I forgot about adding content (I.e. Custom Sprites, downloads).
Title: Re: Let there be democracy
Post by: Cheetah on December 01, 2010, 03:37:43 pm
Thanks for the vote Wiegraf. I certainly have ideas about what could be done to help improve FFH and get us through these hard times, but I am unsure if I simply have the time to do my ideas justice. I have been a general moderator for a long while and was in charge of the spriting section along with Zozma before that. I'm not even sure how long I have been with this site, it hasn't been four years has it?

I think a new leadership structure is needed. I'm not saying that Zodiac did anything wrong, but I think she put too much of the weight all on her own shoulders. We need clearer roles, responsibilities, and powers of moderators and other leadership. Processes for moderating content, spam, and especially banning need to be established and made more consistent. I think for this structure to work we still need one, maybe two, people at the top to delegate and organize the moderators. Democracy is good and the opinions of others should be valued, but at the end of the day when not everyone can agree one person needs to have the responsibility and trust of the others to make the final decision.

I think that Zodiac's strength has always been creating the website as an aid and tool for hacking, and I hope she continues on as webmaster because it doesn't sound like anyone else can do it. I don't think we should or want to replace Zodiac's position, I think we need to reorganize leadership.

I could never do what Zodiac has done and will continue to do, I don't have the skill and especially not the time. However, with the help of many of the current moderators and some of the people being suggested here I think we could get things moving here again.

Sorry if I sound super melodramatic or emo, but I'm not happy with where FFH is right now. Many of the people I have respected on the site are fading away and many state it is because we are too busy, but I think it is also because this site just hasn't been all that fun lately. I find myself fading away from this site for the same reasons, but I want to give it one more go and see if I can get this community motivated again.
Title: Re: Let there be democracy
Post by: Melancthon on December 01, 2010, 04:22:40 pm
I think Cheetah nailed it.  Zodiac has been an excellent webmaster, but if the strain of making all of the decisions is too much, it is definitely time to delegate some responsibility or define a hierarchy of powers.  I think that anyone who wants to be a moderator needs to be both reasonable and skilled at hacking.  I can see a site where Zodiac remains webmaster, in charge of the technical maintenance of the site and perhaps Eternal, philsov, and Cheetah (all skilled and reasonable individuals) become high-level moderators, in charge of the organization of various forum sections and responsible for for wielding the Banhammer.

Zodiac, I hope you stay with the site.  I think you have done some excellent work here.

Oh and DOME FOR SPAM MOD!

(Sorry, I couldn't help myself)
Title: Re: Let there be democracy
Post by: Xifanie on December 01, 2010, 04:36:24 pm
Alright I agree, the technical aspect of the site isn't stressful. I'll leave the forum and chat to new the admin though.
Title: Re: Let there be democracy
Post by: Cheetah on December 01, 2010, 05:27:59 pm
I'm glad you like this plan Zodiac, because frankly it would be no good without you. I think that without the stress and drama of the forum to worry about that your specialized skills will benefit the community much more.

I once again want to emphasize the need for teamwork and hierarchy. An administrator shouldn't be one person in charge of everything with minor support from moderators. The new administrator role, should be the leader of a cooperative team. Zodiac made attempts at this in the past and currently, but it needs to be more formal. There is a lot to do.

With Zodiac on board I nominate myself as the new forum/chat administrator. Obviously I have a team oriented approach so I also recommend that those interested in the administrator role continue to volunteer themselves as they will likely be people first looked at as future moderators. If I'm not chosen as administrator then I hope to continue as a moderator and advice as to how to improve leadership on the site.

Oh and are we actually voting for the new administrator is that how we are doing it?
Title: Re: Let there be democracy
Post by: philsov on December 01, 2010, 05:42:39 pm
Yay zodiac!  I was strongly hoping you'd stick around in some capacity; you're very talented and knowledgable in areas that well... most of us aren't in.

If Zodiac covers the behind the scene stuff I'll officially throw my hat in as well.  However, one thing we all seem to agree upon is more people than just one for admin -- it allows for discussion on topics of importance and increases Admin uptime to deal with issues as they arise instead of waiting for one person to be online and available to deal with it.  At least two, or perhaps all three of us?  We can all certainly be promoted to aid in increased capacity, and then we have a head head honcho?

Philsov -- "I wanna be your honcho." (But I'm never in chat)

edit:
QuoteOh and are we actually voting for the new administrator is that how we are doing it?

Think so.  New topic to be spawned in a day or so.

Yeah the amount of drama recently is ridiculous. Lots of tossing rocks from glass houses and the like.

I can't really say much beyond that I think Zodiac's done a fine job running the site, and the nominated folks seem good to me.

So what do we think?  Zodiac remains webmaster in charge of technical aspects.  We have one Head Moderator and an as-yet-undefined number of sub-moderators?  I imagine that the initial vote will be for the head moderator, who will then determine the number of and appoint sub-moderators?  Does that sound right?

Current nominations for head moderator:

Eternal
TRC
Kokojo (for a lazy moderator)
philsov
Cheetah
FFM

Hmm, it's been almost 3 days now, poll should be up soon I'm guessing.

Overall, I like the idea of there being Co-Admins/Top Moderators because everything will become more fluid operating the site doing so.
