Oh snap! A mermaid! Very nice!

@ Jimmy: The hair looks really awesome!

New entry, Darth Vader (looks way better at 100% than 300%):

Pretty self explanatory but I would really love to change the overworld Ramza sprite to something else like a DK or something. I obviously mean the one that travels from point to point on the world map. Could someone please tell me how to do this? Is it even possible?

I think I know what you mean, kinda like when Agrias or Gafgarion use their sword skills they swing their weapon, or when Knights do a Break technique. I could never figure that out either, I usually would just change one or two Holy or Dark Sword skills to whatever and change what they do specifically. Maybe there is a way, but that's just my two cents.

I like the sprite, and honestly I can't say if it's "good" or "bad" as far as quality goes; I've never had the eye or talent for that sort of thing. You could've told me it was originally an alien as the previous sprite and I wouldn't have called you a liar. I prefer the actual shining-metal look to the yellowish that it used to be (just looked up the original sprite to reference), nice job.

Hahaha, that just made my day!

I've been playing FF IV Advance as well, this one is the only one with the two bonus dungeons, adding more content. The Lunar Trials of the heroes really shows each character what they fear, and how to overcome it, which doesn't really help me with Red Wings but is nice for added story because the characters are a bit more developed. Same thing goes for the PSX version, its like the mature version and therefore a bit more developed. Plus I like swearing in video games, no kiddy hand-holding bs please.

Edit: Changed once again to the nameless Red Wing protagonist. I even decided to make a choice (well I will) so the player can choose at the beginning to be male or female (by releasing 2 patches). I think I might need to make two custom portraits for the RW hero/heroine, however as pretty much everyone on here knows, I suck majorly at portraits. Still better first to try my own. For now I'll just use a generic male/female Squire portrait, so the generic male / female Red Wing sprite as a filler.

It won't mess up your game, but because you replaced Ramza, almost every event in the game will have these glitches. The only way to truly fix this is to change the events, way too much work though. My suggestion would be to replace a unit that can be technically in your party but never joins for good, so in other words Olan or Balmafula. Have your custom character appear instead after the tutorial battle at Gariland and replace the first Squire in 188 in ENTD in FFTPatcher. I dunno if Celdia's tutorial covers on how to create a total custom unit or not, but did you change one of the useless names like Fukes or Dish to your own custom character's name? Did you create a new custom job? Did you replace (in your case) Ramza's unit and portraits for the menu screens?

Help! / Re: Ramza's initial equipment swap

I know about swapping Wish with whatever, you could probably put Zodiac there and it'll be learned, well at least every normal ability. What I meant was just to have him actually spend some JP and come in with Throw Stone or Dash or Heal or Yell or whatever else, plus like most likely Potion and Equip Change and something like Antidote or whatever...just random but stuff learned.

While on the subject of hex editing, is there a way to change Ramza so he is more like a generic unit, what I mean is is that Ramza always only has Wish learned and nothing else, where as Delita and the generic Squires have like Throw Stone and Potion and stuff learned. How can I change it so Ramza is treated like a regular generic unit?

The only reason I used the DK was because he has actually the closest shaped armor to Kain than anyone else. Not only does the DK have shoulder spikes but also those 2 tail things on his back covering his legs. Honestly that's exactly how Kain looks, I can redo this and try again, which I will.

Figured it out, thanks. Weapon and Shield are really Right and Left hands, respectively.

Yep I wanted crits, I'm really bad at spriting again since I haven't done it for a long time, so head swaps is about as good as its going to get since I suck. What body would be best for Kain?

Help! / Re: Ramza's initial equipment swap

Yeah but now I got this and I just want to change 2 things, the Broad Sword into an Escutcheon in the right hand of Ramza and the empty left hand holding a Javelin (1).

Please tell me if that is the right one to change in the screen shot...

Help! / Re: Ramza's initial equipment swap

Thanks Pride, I downloaded HxD Hex Editor and opened up the SCUS_942.21. So like Xif named it "Weapon" and "Shield", is it really "Right Hand" and "Left Hand"? Also, I don't want to make any mistakes so is it this (the highlighted in blue) offset I change to whatever item I want? I just want to do this correctly.

Umm thanks Xif but like for example if I wanted an Escutcheon it would go in the Weapon slot and the Javelin in the Shield slot, right?

Also thanks but like what do I do with this? Do I need a certain program to insert this code? Is there maybe a tutorial on this stuff somewhere? Thanks again!

You're right Lijj, it does make the belt look awkward, do you think both the belt and the shoe strap things should be purple? Then only his hair would be yellows and browns. I can lower the hair a bit, but I think it is somewhat correct since there will be a purple hair tie thing on his back poses which purposely holds his hair out and away, like Zero from Megaman. Thanks for the crits!

Edit: I also just noticed I think for the first time that the original Kain sprite for SNES didn't even have any hair, or fake hair on his helmet. That was DS only, so I'm even thinking about getting rid of it altogether. Gives me more colors to work with, which I don't really need...

Help! / Ramza's initial equipment swap
October 04, 2012, 12:07:44 pm
Hi, I'm making the Red Wings mod and I need to replace Ramza's initial equipment, but only the Broad Sword and add a shield. Since in my patch Kain is replacing Ramza, I need him to be left handed and holding in his right hand an Escutcheon (1) and a Javelin in his left hand. Can anyone tell me how to do this really easy or set this up for me if it requires hex editing? I don't exactly know how to hex edit, this is the only thing I will be needing for my mod that I actually really have no clue on how to do by myself. Thanks in advance for reading this and the help!

Jon, as long as you let me review them first :P I do have a very high quality standard.

Certainly! I wouldn't post them otherwise, if I make anything I'll pm you the Youtube link first. And that very first one isn't exactly high quality lol, its just changing the Queklain sprite to a Uribo in Patcher and changing the end text :P Still its a funny event!

Yeah you're right, and better than google is Final Fantasy wikia. Also I redid one pose of Kain and a few more, you can see it in the Spriting Contest.

Edit: Red Wings pretty much done:
Generic Red Wing Male & portrait

Generic Red Wing Female & portrait

Biggs portrait (since Biggs and Wedge have same sprite as generic male)

Wedge portrait

Easy to do since they are just recolored sprites and portraits, but still look nice imho. Notice that only the clothes and hat were recolored on the sprites, the armor I left the same as palette one since I like the metally colors better than the bronze looking armors.

Edit2: I'd like your opinion on which script for FF IV I should use. Most of us I am guessing are used to the NA FF II for SNES script, which to me seems like Nintendo forcefully made more "kiddy-friendly", nobody swears in that version ever! Wtf!! I would personally like to use the most mature version, which was made for the PSX, FF Chronicles. (It came with Chrono Trigger!) This one made Edge more mature especially, I think he even calls Rydia a bitch at some point lol. Anyways, maybe I'm just crazy, I can use other scripts, so please let me know which one is your favorite and why. Thanks!

Here's the opening for FF IV on the PSX, the quality is horrible but readable:

Lol at Cid at around 7:30ish and these quotes are more memorable.
Kain: "Ready for some real combat?"
Cecil: "Always."

Enough said. Reminds me a little bit of how they talk in FF VII. Opinions?

Update, could use some crits/feedback. The teal colors are from like palette whatever from the male Black Mage, the purples are from the DK and the rest is like skin which is quite dark since Kain and Cecil and the others all look so tanned. FF IV makes so much sense, guys wearing full body armor with helmets have tans...anyways, whatcha guys think? On the first page is the original sprite if you want to compare it to that. I feel he can be more light teal, but might look horrible in game. Just in case you don't know just by looking at it, its a male dragoon head and helmet recolored on a male dark knight recolored, then changed a few things like cutting off the dk's helmet and reforming the "hair" to fit to the dragoon's.

Spriting / Re: theultrawolf's sprites

I honestly don't care who Penelo is or what game she's from, but I googled images of her and I agree, start fresh. Her pants and body look kinda like Rafa, I suggest you use her as a base and then add in the head/hair. Try to use 2 or 3 blue/purples for the pants, 2 or 3 reds for the clothes, and then 3 or 4 blond/yellow and whites for her hair and eyes. Look at Ramza's hair color, its close enough to what you want. You should have around 5 or six colors left over if you do this, use like 3 for the skin and 2 or 3 for the shoes, or just make the shoes red like her shirt thing. Technically not 100% accurate but saves colors, hope this helps!
