Use of ePSXe before 2.0 is highly discouraged. Mednafen, RetroArch, and Duckstation are recommended for playing/testing, pSX is recommended for debugging.

Help! / Can't find Excel spreadsheet & tool; More jobs
August 28, 2020, 05:31:34 am
Apologies to whom it may concern, I can't seem to locate the excel spreadsheet someone made that allowed for more jobs to be created, (from my understanding) in the shadow of other jobs, and I was really keen to look into it to see if i couldn't fiddle around. If anyone has any information, It would be incredibly helpful!

Another problem (that I solved with tedious Copy paste) is that you may be trying to modify an already patched ISO. TacText is known to have several issues when loading an already patched ISO, though the wiki goes into little detail about it.
If you want to keep all the text changes, your best bet is to open a notepad, and copy everything into there, to copy it back with a new and fresh, unedited instance of FFT.

I'd like to report a problem with the ENTD data you've set up,
it doesn't seem like Cid gets the job Dark knight after he joins. could this have something to do with the requirement to kill 20 units, and master the jobs knight and black mage rather than just have them at a level? just postulating, curious if you could see what's up!
24
Right! Thanks! Will be sure to try that out.

I've gotten back into my mini-project, creating 'chapter 1.5' (or the missing chapter as I've called it), and I was wondering if there was a simple way to test events, with like an external program? or do I have to replace say the first event in the game for a quick and easy way to test it?
does EasyVent editor super perfect 2.0 have some sort of event-viewing functionality that I havent found yet? that'd be embarrassing
Any replies are helpful! thanks in advance!
I've also attached the text file I've uh... 'created' so far. it's not much to look at unless you want to criticise my writing, which is valid
Also not sure exactly how to turn this text file into something more usable when the time comes around, if anyone is available that wants to help, please

Help! / Re: Specifying starting abilities
February 23, 2020, 05:50:58 am
The only help I can think of offering is up the job level of orlandeu/orlandu
The abilities he knows are all known by other jobs making it hard to edit their properties so editing the amount of jp orlandeu has may make the spend the excess on some more abilities? I believe that's how that function works anyhow. I'm not too qualified to answer the question but I've done what I can to help

I feel like this is more of a "I'll get to it when i get there" issue, however I would like to ask here beforehand in case i get something wrong.

I want to input cut-scene events between "partings" and the "chapter 2 start", particularly, in this order:
2 cut-scenes,
1 battle with a pre-battle scene,
2 cutscenes,
a still-image with text (in between the last cut-scene and the next),
and a cutscene,
how would i go about this? is there some kind of "call event" I can use?

You may have a fair point about delita, his story is definitely meant to be interpreted after the fact. And besides, I think someone was doing a king of Ivalice hack that was all about delita?
I'll keep his story interaction short and maybe only use a black screen with dialogue.
Something along the lines of someone finding him, and him being so cold probably misinterpreting them as being teta, (he does say teta saved him at zeakden at the ziechile falls Bridge, and I find her actually doing that unlikely)
And yes, hired by gafgarion, is the location blanked as well? I couldn't find anything particularly enlightening on the Wikipedia Page, just that he put himself up for hire... (and changed his name, that's very important)
Regardless I think this thread is getting too long for its original purpose.

I am determined to make this happen. I already have a general list of things I need to get this started (which now includes patching my game over with TLW)
Patch,
Write a story board up, with locations and characters
Code the events, that's the most important part I think,
Then work on random and story battles.
(probably do some tweaking and balance, most Story enemy levels after chapter 1 may have to be buffed up a few)
Maybe this does need a team, but tonight I'm tired enough to call myself a one man army!
this mood may change by morning, or at most after school tomorrow. That stuff is taxing  :?

You know what then?
I'm going to find out the story of what happens to ramza/delita between chapter one and chapter two, and I'm going to make a hack that explores this story more in depth.
Although adding it into this already full game may be an issue, so I may have to pull a Jot5 chapter 1 and replace the story entirely...
Going to make it playable with battles and events, guest characters like rad and gafgarion, might mostly leave the job system alone? There isn't a job shift change between c1 and c2 canonically anyway...

I'm sorry for flooding the help section with questions, and I'm sorry I make you feel obligated to answer all of my questions.
I am using the tools available to me, but I'm using them in... A more unorthodox way I'll admit. I have the patcher always propped up in the corner so I can refer back to what everything does. I'm trying to learn my way through what I have available to me, that mostly being data tables, and show my work off to you guys
I just want to try and prove myself to you, but clearly I've been a bit too liberal with the questions.
I'm sorry. I'll try to limit the question making, since I'm just making you feel guilty about it. I shouldn't be so greedy and selfish.

event 181, which should appear in  ENTD4.ENT, has delita as the first unit. the second byte, which the Wikipedia says belongs to various flags, is checked for being male (+1) load formation (+10) and save formation(+80)
this should give a value of 8B, however when i check this byte in my hex editor i find it's actually 89; 80 + 8 + 1. Am i missing something here, or are the flags done a little differently to how i originally figured?
(yes, i know how flags work, +1 for the first flag, then double for the second and so on and so forth. this means every numeral possible is a unique combination of any of these collective flags.)

Completed Mods / Re: FFT: Emergence (PSP)

blood falcon, unfortunately i don't think there is an item or ability that boosts magic accuracy. there are so little magic dodging items in the game anyway, the ability would be almost redundant. the only reason you can normally buy concentration from archer is because there is a slew of different items and abilities that boost mainly physical dodge rates

Help! / ENTD locations?
February 14, 2020, 05:24:43 am
Given that the program FFTpatcher doesn't produce any codes for ENTD edits, I am going to try and edit these manually-
the only issue is I don't know where to look first. I searched ENTD on the site wikipedia, (sent me directly here http://ffhacktics.com/wiki/ENTD) which certainly gave me quite the handy guide around how all of the bytes get used!
but it doesn't tell me where the information for this starts, or in what file it appears in. if anyone knows and could share that would be greatly appreciated! thank you! :)

Concentration only effects physical attacks, I'm pretty sure. Not sure why you're using that with an astrologer
36
I apologise for my ignorance, I was only repeating what I knew, and that's that games hark codes should only be used on a clean patch to avoid creating issued. Again, I apologise if this is wrong
37
Try avoiding using the term "ROM" for legal reasons.
Otherwise no I don't think they would. Jot5 is almost a complete recoding of events, jobs, the map, abilities... Game shark codes wouldn't work unless produced by an application designed specifically for that modification.
38
Oh. Uh, alright then, I apologise for making assumptions. I thought time working on this stuff translated to that, but, clearly not.
I'm gonna stop talking, the ticket is resolved.
39
I thought maybe targeting the same unti twice would do something along those lines but, you know more than I do. Thank you for answering my question!

(only put in help because I'm not sure where else this could go)
Now, as the title implies, I am not requesting this, and I will not be trying to achieve this on my own. Because ouch.
but!
Could it theoretically be feasible to rework calculator/arithmatician into a redmage that can learn duel casting, and is capable of using spells used in other classes?
I say feasible, as well, because anything is technically possible with ASM hacking, but I wanted to know if this was something a generally pretty knowledgeable hacker could achieve with the groundwork calculator provides? I was honestly quite curious
