That explains it even though you told me already I still kinda freaked out.

Okay, I bet this is somewhere but I can't seem to find it:

Which classes have sprites for the formation screen?  Any class that can change equipment will do.

Edit: Is there any way to use regular classes from the job wheel as special characters?  That would also work for my purposes.
I changed jobs and that has made all the difference.

I have a question about the way some sprites look normal when their Type 2.SHP and some look normal when their Type 1.SHP. So here's the question: I once tried to replace the 3 Ramza sprites with the Ajora sprite from this site, it worked but the Ajora sprite looked weird. I noticed that in shishi the Ajora sprite looked normal in type 2, and weird in type 1. I tried saving it when type 2 was in the box in the corner which, it did'nt work. So basically my question is how do I save the sprite as Type 2.SHP?

Thanks for posting your question here in the correct section. Your answer is here:

http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1527

The sprites have different types depending on the width/size of the character. The link provides a quick guide for changing it manually with a hex editor.

Thanks for the help Cheetah, but I have another question. I opened unit.bin with the japanese program, I used graphics gale to crop the image of the sprite that I wanted to use to 24x40 (16bit by the way, if that's important) but when I tried to import the bmp, an error message popped up (Man I hate those things) that no one could ever read

P.S. I also tried 24bit, it also ended with the same error message (I think It did. I can't quite remember :? )

P.S.S. This question isn't directed towards anyone in particular

Unfortunately from what I've seen it needs to be 8 bit, but I know some of the expert spriters know how it's done.

It does?. I tried making it 8 bit but graphics gale messed up the colors so I didn't even want to bother using it. How do I fix the colors?

In that... I have no idea, Zozma and Cheetah should though.

It probably messed up the colors because of the portrait. Make that portrait all black, there is a shape tool in Graphics Gale (good choice in programs). Then make it 8 bit, should look fine.

Can someone point out where to begin a spriting tutorial, or would someone be willing to teach me the basics? Lessons come with awesome accent to compensate.
14:45  @SilentB         ò "Hey, Cosgrove, how come you never married?"
14:45  @SilentB         ò "Because I eat too much meat."
14:46  @Celdia          ò Heresy. No such thing as 'too much meat'
14:47  @Celdia          ò One night with tithin would teach you that.

You can get great rips of most of the sprites here: http://istaken.org/fft/
These will later work with FFTPatcher and ShiShiSpriteEditor, but worry about that later. Download Graphics Gale to do your spriting in, it is a pretty simple straight forward program or you can use MSPaint. There is a 16 color limit for the sprite and then a separate palette for the portrait also 16 colors, note that for the sprite the black color that becomes transparent counts as one of your 16 colors. That should get you started.

I'm a little confused. Could you make a short step by step tutorial on what i'm supposed to do, after i crop the image?

Edit: Never mind I figured it out. Thanks for the help :)

Um yes for the most part. I'm not positive how to change it for all randoms though, but it should be doable.

to do that, can't you just replace the sound file for random battles with a copy of the one you want, renamed ofcourse?

open iso
extract fftpack.bin
extract fftpack.bin
go to sound
delete random battle music
copy music you want as battle music
rename to original random battle music
rebuild fftpack.bin
replace old fftpack.bin with new one in the iso
done

No idea if it works, don't see why not.
