Spriting / Blue Mage & Flan Sprites
June 12, 2010, 10:04:06 pm
So... quite some time ago when I first signed up to this forum, I attempted making a Blue Mage sprite. The top Blue Mage on this here picture.

As you can see, it sucked. Smash did the cleanup which you see on the bottom, and not only did it look nicer, it took less colors! My problem then was that I exported the .bmp's and directly loaded them into MSPaint, and I guess that created palette issues for me. Smash does his sprites from scratch from what I understand.

Anyway, after thinking I'm just not cut out for this stuff, I moved on to other projects. Mostly ASM hacking and programming (though not for FFT). I worked on all sorts of projects, but on some occasions I'd still try to sprite. Most of the time I'd get fed up and quit, but I usually get back into it. I managed to make some pretty decent concepts for a few Final Fantasy monster types, but they need some serious work. I also worked on a Green Mage sprite, and really do hope to include the sprites I'm making in my own patch. I'm really picky though, so if they look like shit, I'll probably give up the idea. Anyway, I've been working on that old Blue Mage sprite and I don't think it looks too bad, I've worked on the back (which needs more work), the walking animations, the full front and full back parts, the arms, and some other parts. So I'm hoping to eventually finish this thing and release it. I've also been working on a Flan sprite, which seems to be coming out nicely, though I'm redoing various parts of it. Here's what they currently look like:

As you can see I'm still working on the bottom of the Flan, but it's hard for me to tell if it'll fit in well in FFT. So I was wondering if anyone here has any advice for either of these sprites. Especially you Smash since you're quite good at clean-ups. :P This is probably going to drive me nuts 'til it's finished, lol.

Feel free to work on the sprite and repost it here to show what I can do to improve them.

Spriting / My first attempt at making a sprite
May 31, 2009, 07:42:29 pm
This is my version of a Blue Mage, sorta... I've been trying to figure out how to change some of the colors in the palette so I can make the Blue Mage I've been wanting to make for a while, but I figure this isn't too bad looking so why not show it off a little even if it sucks?

I made this using the male Geomancer sprite, what do you think? Once I get better at this I plan on making a complete Blue Mage spritesheet, even if nobody likes it lol.

The Lounge / The Colored Mages
May 30, 2009, 07:48:28 pm
What do you think about the way Final Fantasy names it's colored mage jobs? Like "Red" Mage, "White" Mage, and "Red" Magic etc.

Do you think the word "Magus" sounds cooler than Mage?

Do you prefer colored magic abilities such as "Blue Magic" and "Red Magic" to be refered to as "Magic", "Magick", or something more original like, say, for Red Mages, have their type of magic to be called "Sorcery Sword" or "Chainspell"?

PSX FFT Hacking / Riding Chocobos

Is there a way to add additional bonuses to a character for riding a chocobo such as status buffs and regular stat boosts? Or a way to change abilities to only be usable while riding a chocobo?

Spriting / What can we currently do?
May 26, 2009, 07:59:37 pm
First of all I'd like to say Hello to everyone on these forums ^^ I've been reading various things and messing around with hex editing so far and now I'm starting to get into spriting. This isn't one of those questions about how to change sprites and make sprites etc. Instead I'd like to know if the Attack command still shows the original sprite instead of the new one you changed it to. Also, can we change the sprites displayed on the job wheel yet? If not what types of work-arounds are there besides not using the Attack command or the generics for getting the most out of the custom sprite experience?
