Title: Question about Latest Shishi.
Post by: jimmyjw88 on September 24, 2009, 12:03:32 am
Hi guys, I have a question regarding the latest Shishi and its about the type of the sprite. In previous Shishi, the types of the sprites are separated like so:

Now, with the latest Shishi, the types of the sprites can be altered like so:

Alright, here's my question. Does this mean that if I select Ramza, which is type 1 and alter it into type 2 and import/insert a type 2 spr. file or spritesheet, Ramza will become type 2?
Thanks in advance.

The first picture is from previous Shishi v0.352 while the second picture is from the latest Shishi v0.457 (I think).

if you change it to a type 2 you are changing that job slot to a type2 not the sprite itself.

btw if you change it to a type 2 and view it in animations it wont look like it changed, you have to close shishi and re open it to view the change

I see. So, with the new Shishi, there's no need for hex editing (I think) to change the type of the sprite/job?
So any sprite can change from type 1 to type 2 and vice versa?

yep thats how it works. but you need to apply the expand iso patch to your clean version of the game so that you can make full use of the sprite slots

Oh...So meaning apply that Extend ISO patch to the original for full use of the sprite slots? Hmm...nice. Ohya, talking about that Extend ISO patch, I have another question. Compared the clean original version ISO and that Extend ISO patch, what's the different and what do you meant by full use of the sprite slots? Meaning there are some unuse sprite slots in the original clean ISO?

I thought shishi did the expansion and rearrangement itself when you first open the iso?

Yes. Shishi did restructured the ISO but I thought Zozma was mentioning about the Extend ISO patch?

From what I understand you can't restructure without expanding first.
Shishi allows the use of every sprite up to Steel Giant. That was the upper limit on sprites with the old patch, right?

Edit: I did some tests. Shishi does in fact expand the ISO, but not to the same degree as the original patch. It replaces the original sprites with new ones instead of just adding them. Also I noticed that it doesn't add all those extra sprites that the game can't load like the original patch.

Normal ISO - 512 MB
Old Patch ISO - 803 MB
New Shishi ISO - 527 MB

it can probably reconstruct, but the sprites will truncate if you dont expand it first

That's strange, Zoz. If you look at the shishi expanded spr files in CDMage they are the same size as the ones used in the old patch. There shouldn't be any truncation at all. Also, I've never had shishi truncate any sprite I've inserted.

well, it happened all the time with me, and its really not very noticeable right away.

We'd have to ask melonhead about this.
I don't know how exactly last shishi works but I think it moves or not sprites to allow them 65536 bytes.
What I'm not sure of is if it separates the job links to have a single spritesheet per special job.
My spritesheet reassignment patch will give you access to all unused jobs that are normally set to load the male squire or other generics. I've thought about it and I can't find a situation where you just couldn't set the two units with the same "Sprite Set" and give them a different job; which would make this harmless

Wow...I'm blurred. Haha. So now means that the latest Shishi restructured the ISO, fully utilised the sprite slots? So, Zodiac's spritesheet reassignment patch is better? Then what about the Extend ISO patch? And Vanya...Wow...that Old Patch ISO is 803MB??? Wow...That's alot....
