I like the right one better, for reasons you stated.

Attached is a small preview I made using paint's resize and copy/paste tools of two smaller flans, and one bigger. I think the second one from the right is the most appropriate for a normal flan, but the original size looks more threatening. I'm imagening two smaller flans get spawned when the bigger one is defeated myself, and so forth.

I don't think you can check elemental affinity and have your formula change based on that. Not without a lot of ASM, which I don't suppose you can do in a timely manner. Thus, my suggestion:
FIRE, ICE, BOLT: PA*WP. Elemental weakness makes it *2 damage, no?
HOLY: PA*WP+Y. Holy is the strongest magical attack after all.
DRAIN/PSYCHE: like them dark knight skills. Too bad you can't heal for less than you damage tho. Might be good to not include Psyche.
FLARE: PA*WP+Y, non-elemental, more than Holy, since that has weakness-potential.
VENOM: I don't think there is damage and 100% status formula, is there?
Mute, Sleep and Break: 100%. But lots of MP. Maybe 25% for break, since usually petrify is a fate worse than death.

If possible, and somehow I think it is, disable attack for the swordmage, and have every skill require different amounts of MP. If impossible, give them special weapons with normal WP, but a nonsense formula (like 100% status, and no status affliction).

for the original magic sword:

******************
6.8.6) MAGIC SWORD
******************

Magic Sword effects stack with other attacking commands like BuildUp, Counter,
Aim, Jump, X-Fight, Capture and Sword Dance.

Magic Sword Element overrides current Attack Element
Status effect Magic swords have no Attack Element and will also override
current Attack Element (e.g. Casting Mute Magic Sword with the Air Lancet will
make it lose its Air Attack Element).

Status effect Magic swords (Venom, Mute, Sleep and Break) will successfully
inflict their statuses as long as you successfully hit the target, even if you
only do zero damage (use Aim, X-Fight, Jump or Sword Dance to guarantee a
hit).

For Elemental Magic swords, if the target is not weak vs. specified element
then Magic Sword has no effect on the damage you do to the target.

If the target is Weak vs. Magic Sword Element:

FIRE, ICE, BOLT, VENOM
Defense = 0
Attack = Attack * 2

FIRE2, ICE2, BOLT2
Defense = 0
Attack = Attack * 3

FIRE3, ICE3, BOLT3, BIO, HOLY
Target is killed instantly.
Ignores Dead immunity.
Does not work against Heavy type creatures.
For Heavy types:
Defense = 0
Attack = Attack * 4

If the target is immune to Magic Sword element, attacks will always miss, even
with Aim, X-Fight, Jump or Sword Dance.

If the target absorbs the Magic Sword element, target will be healed instead
of damaged.  Healing amount = normal damage formula, but Defense = 0.

Other Magic Swords:

DRAIN
Use normal formula, caster is healed by the amount of damage inflicted.  If
the target is Undead, target is healed and caster is damaged.

PSYCHE
Use normal formula, if Damage > 0, then drain 1/4 of target's current MP.  If
the target is Undead, then target gains MP and caster loses MP.

FLARE
Damage = (Attack + (0..(Attack/8)) + 100)
Damage = Damage - (Defense/4)
Danage = Damage * M

note: M is the modifier that takes into account critical, row, that sort of thing. It doesn't really matter much. Basically Flare sword adds 100+ attack and ignores defence mostly.

QuoteOnly bacteria and viruses can "gain immunity."
They stated in the article it isn't a fix all, but if it does prevent some cancers, those will stay prevented.

Not true. Anything that can mutate can gain immunity, so cancer cells can too. It just wont spread to other people, as cancer is not contagious. Also, it would take a while (more than one lifetime for sure), since not all of the DNA-duplication-error-correcting-mechanisms are broken.
Also, they say "to have this opportunity, a therapeutic vaccine to not only treat cancer, but to prevent relapse, it's a huge opportunity", which says very directly that it is a treatment and prevention of relapse. The one thing that is not implied is what vaccines usually do, preventing the illness in the first place.

I cannot find how exactly the dendritic cells with one extra protein are able to provide an incentive for the body to mass produce Natural Killer cells who mass murder cancer cells. It is known that one of the most important factors for the prognosis of cancer is the immune system of the patient, but how you can build a vaccine based on that, I haven't got the slightest idea.

Help! / Re: RAD Job Requirements, requiring RAD Jobs

I was under the impression RAD jobs share joblevel and JP with their 'twin', so that would imply a "no" as answer to your question.

Being a pirate myself, I can tell you a longer coat is more 'piratey' since Officers during the golden age of piracy didn't normally wear short coats on account they were not in style and pretty much nobody made them short. Even the vests were long. Just sayin'.

Something pirates of the Caribbean did right then?

In the formation screen, check her learned skills. Skills unlearned and unknown show up as "-----" there.

Also, Zalera can be slowed, which is a good move.

There are only little ways to get higher brave (ambrosia, brave up), even less for faith (faith up), but I never encountered a way to lower faith. Is this intended, did I miss it somewhere, or what? I don't mind high faith, but one off my guys got high enough faith that I get a warning after the battle, and it's slightly annoying.

That's nice to know.
Also, new bug: after the Zalera fight (darn his speed), Meliadoul is supposed to join, no? I wasn't even promted. The events were thus:
- Zalera got killed
- I get battle spoils
- I get a warning that my faith is dangerously high
- screen goes to normal, then black, to load the event
- after the event, the screen goes gray, then normal again.

It is the same, whether I have a full party at the end of the battle or let one generic crystallise, thus creating a space, or dismissing a unit before the battle.

It's all in the same key, so you actually can't really screw up. I wrote "Zelda" with my mouse and it still sounded okay :>

New bugs: the knightswords do not seem to strengthen their element. That is, on mystic knight skills and red magic they don't. They do give the elemental weakness.

After patching on a clean iso, and using a chapter 2 savefile, Rad's base job is now a warrior, with 1 MP, etc., all good. When I change his job, his base job is Torero, and I can't change him back to Warrior. Any ideas?

Also, bag of holding leaves my characters with 1 max HP. I do not like this, and it doesn't seem intended.

How my complaints of Disgaea are all at the same time applyable to all the games listed I fail to see, as explained in my earlier post. Some of them apply to the games, but not all at once, except remakes.
If you think Disgaea games have a different atmosphere, different roles, different worlds to discover, or different adventures to be had, then yes, disregard what I said. I however, think the differences between those games mean far too little to justify a new game, instead of a patch of some sorts.

Uh, video games and sequels are very different than any other medium and sequels.
More of the same, plus new features is NOT bad when the original is good.
Metroid and Super Metroid, for instance, or The Legend of Zelda and TLoZ:ALttP. In both cases the sequel is just more of the exact same formula, with some new shit thrown in. Also, in both cases the the second game is very different, and is not nearly as good.
Also,  Mega Man 2.
Lufia 2.
Castlevania 3.  (CV2 also deviated from the first, and sucked)
Mario both proves and disproves this, as both versions of Super Mario Brothers 2 suck, and one is just the first game with new shit, the other is something completely different.  As for FF, the same formula is used in FF4-9, and I find that all the 'innovation' from 10 on has done nothing but hurt the series.
Ooh, Breath of Fire 3, 4, and 5.  3 Had some new ideas, but was a very meh game.  BoF 4 streamlined all the crap in BoF3, and is an awesome game.  BoF 5 went a completely different route, and ended up a mixed bag of poorly implemented ideas.

Also, Back to the Future 2 was half of the first movie redone with a hover board and less violence, and Back to the Future 3 was just... bad.

Disgaea 2 was better game than the first, even if the story sucked.  Same with Disgaea 3.  I don't want the gameplay to change, I just want refinements.  I want the game to play better each sequel, I want more viable options.  I want to be able to sink more hours into it.  (I also want all the DLC to carry over...)  I don't want them to make radical changes.  Not to Disgaea.  If they want to do something different, then they should make a new IP.

Nice try. There is a difference between a bad game and a bad sequel. Furthermore, there is a difference between expanding on a concept and doing the same all over again.
Metroid is an adventure game, and thus replaying the game has less worth than any other, seeing as how you already discovered (most of) the world the first time. Super Metroid refining the gameplay makes it only better, but the adventure is new. In film, the same is true. An adventure sequel means more, new adventures with the same characters. In books, the same.
The Zelda games are a bit different. Zelda 1 and 2 are very different, yes, they could very well be different series. However, a game being worse than it's previous installment and it being different are two different things. This is seen if we go further in the Zelda series, which stay true to the first one in gameplay. But, Zelda being adventures, the refinements are welcome, but the main difference is that the world is different.
Mega Man I never played.
Lufia 2, an RPG for a change, is a prequel, not a sequel. Besides that, RPG's are about role-playing. The roles in this RPG are different, and thus is a new game justified. That it improves on the world and gameplay only makes it better. Also, Lufia tells the story of an adventure.
Castlevania I also did not play.
Mario is very interesting. The Other Mario 2 does not disprove the argument per se, as it too is an enjoyable game, just very weird in atmosphere. The rest of the series again is all different enough to not be the same, but they expand on the concept. The Jap Mario 2 one might argue is a good sequel. It expands on the concept, in difficulty. It's not so much a new game as an expansion, and has it's place.
Final Fantasy uses a different battle system every game, which keeps the gameplay fresh, but is mostly about playing a role, which is different each game. FF1, the start, is simple, and more than the others about the growth of your chars. FF2 is more cinematic, and has an epic story to tell. FF3 is again most about growing chars, and does it beautifully with the job system. FF4 is again a cinematic with emphasis on the characters involved. FF5 takes itself seriously in no way whatsoever, has very enjoyable characters, and one of the best char-grow systems. FF6 is all about the characters, and has less char growth options than before, or at least it mattered less. FF7 was the big story of one man, had enjoyable side-chars, had the materia system, which was simple but gave a lot of options. It was less strategic, since levels mattered so much in damage, your stats were meh. FF8 is mostly about the characters, but still has a fresh new gameplay which has potential, but is unbalanced. FF9, characters, and the interactions they have. Simple gameplay. FF10, Tidus's story, plus Sphere grid. FF10-2, fan service and the waste of the best FF battle system ever. FFXI, role playing to the max. FFXII, epic story (that tries too hard) with enormous (unbalanced) character growth freedom. Others I did not play.

Disgaea however, gives mostly the same gameplay, the same atmosphere, the same roles, every game. The biggest difference between "new game" and the new game is the sixty bucks you pay. You can perhaps compare them best with all the remakes that have been released of all them FF games, if those were sequels. It's not even more of the same, it's only the same.

Zodiac Job version was even better imho. You still had the trying too hard story, Vash and Penelo, but the gameplay was even better.
