Apparently our generics in FFT are as dumb as their proposition returns would lead us to believe, other then sounding witty when they're casting a spell, they aren't really that smart. Here are a few excerpts from their Proposition report in the Normal FFT PSX version.

QuoteThe Lord was seen at God Canyon! We were excavating in God ravine, searching for ore. When we dug about 30 sectas, we found a Catacomb. Then a man with light beaming from his clothes appeared in front of us as we built a shrine and prayed before it. We stood speechless and the man disappeared into the distance. Was it God...?

Yeah... it gets worse...

QuoteWyberns Annihilated!
Authorities have said the 'Golden Gotsko' has taken over the bandits, 'The Wyberns'.

And then...

QuoteShip Casino, Black Jack
The Casino ship, Black Hack is at the port of Warjilis. It's equipped with all types of gambling items including slot machines and a Black Jack table.

My personal favorite...

QuoteCannibalistic Plant
We confirmed the existence of the man-eating plant, 'Rafurshva", the giant flower that grows in the north. Its diameter is 5 sectas. We found the carnivorous plant while collecting other plants. Sensing our presence, the giant Rafuresheva attacked us with its leaf. But, we managed to escape. This is truly a historical discovery and it will stimulate the academic world.

So our generics do not only fail at stringing sentences together, but also have very short term memories, I guess that's because they met God at God Canyon...

Mercenaries / Blue Mage Job Thread

Blue Mage, The Monster Gazer

Well this is a class which requires no introduction, this is the classic Blue Mage! As we all know the game has a "learn after hit" command in each skill, therefore the possibility of a Blue Mage is... well it's more then a possibility, now the hard part of this is choosing the 16 skills the Blue Mage should have, and what reactions, supports, etc. It should have. These are what is currently on the list, but if anyone happens to have any other ideas, even new skill ideas, I could implement for said monster, I would be all ears.

Eye Gouge (1.3) - Goblin
Choco Cure - Chocobo
Spark - Explosive
Cat Kick - Cuar
Mind Blast - Mind Flare
Wind Soul - Living Bone
Drain Touch - Gust
Circle - Plague
Calm Spirit - Trent
Triple Thunder - Hydra
Blaster - Vampire
Hurricane - King Behemoth
Ice Bracelet - Blue Dragon
Triple Attack - Hyudra, Hydra, Tiamat
Blow Fire - Minitaurus
Self - Destruct - Band of Abilities and Blue Mage Crystal

This has been Long in the coming and I do apologize for how long it took for this.

Cantor, those who command the Voice of Heaven

Cantor's are basically singers who use Hymns to bring benefit to their party. Their skills are varied from their White Mage Predecessor's and their abilities hold unique points away from the other job classes.

This set up is All thanks to Philsov with a bit of help from Mav! Each skillset is meant to work well with one another as well as compensating for what is missing in another. I think Philsov and Mav have done a great job splitting these! But let me know your thoughts on this arrangement as well.

QuoteCantor - Voice of Heaven.  Ramza and Rad given a good split on abilities, then gain a Cure-like spell each (Ramza with healing voice got an AoE, Rad got the opposite).  And I know you're going more for the vocal angle here, and I went more with the priesty angle, so feel free to change the names.  I like the abilities themselves though, nevermind the awesome bias.

Iconics:
Hymn of Life = Range self, AoE 1.  Revives!
Throe of Rebirth = single target, light CT, light MP.  Inflicts Reraise but harms unit for 25%.  Ally/self only.
(Mighty Prayer)

Ramza:
Healing Voice - 40% healing to a nearby target, triggering prayer status.  Instant.
Tumultuous Bellow - Range 0, AoE 1.  Success = 50% + MA;  Inflicts Berserk around the caster
Lethargic Psalm - Heals 65%, inflicts sleep and slow.  Very high success rate, ally only.
Anoint - Heals CFa * TFA * MA * 20;  range 4, AoE 1, moderate CT and MP.
Repent - Strips target of Innocent or Shell status, dealing 20% HP damage in the process.
Sonnet to Faram - self-only, moderate CT, MP.  Success = ((CFa/100)^2) * (160+MA)) -- protect/shell/regen/faith

Rad:
Healing Breath - 20% healing for a large area, triggering prayer status.  Instant.
Insane Chant - Range 2, AoE 0.  Success = 40% + MA.  Light PA-based damage plus confusion infliction
Aria of Peace - Dispels Berserk and heals target for 25%.  Success = PA+125%.
Bless - Heals CFa * TFa * MA * 25; range 4, AoE 0.  moderate CT and MP.
Penance - Inflicts Addle.  Success = MA + 60%, Range 2, AoE 0, instant, no MP.
Coronach to Lucavi - Formula (100-CasF)*(100-TarF)* (Move + 6) * Current MP/2 #Hit Rdm 6; Single Enemy - Berserk/Blind/Poison/Innocent (All)

Mercenaries / Mercenaries Randoms (Missions) 11/120
December 04, 2008, 01:16:23 pm
Haha! Well doesn''t this look like an extremely familiar thread... in any case, unlike 1.3 randoms, Mercenaries randoms are not really "randoms"in that they are Missions, each one can of course be repeated.

Each Random will Always consist of Ramza, Rad, and Gafgarion, those three must be included in every battle. Every mission success will earn you a "War Trophy" of varying importance, it will most likely be a Relic, well... it always be one Relic, but there are other gifts to earn, depending on the battle... here is the layout of a Test Battle, so to speak...

Rad
Ramza
Gafgarion

Allies
(Randomly Present)
x1 Male Knight with Hymns (Offers a Linen Robe as War Trophy, if Present)

(Always Present)
x1 Female Knight with Gamble

Enemies

(Always Present)
Male Traveler with Grimiore and MA Up (Offers a Broken Pocketwatch upon victory)

Female Traveler with high job level and Defense Up

Male Traveler with Hymns

(Randomly Present)

x2 Male Knights
----------------------------------------

Of course this is only an example (and a pretty poor one...) so I'm sure you fellows will come up with something better, but for reference...

Let's use only Chapter 1 Randoms to start off with.

Mercenaries Spriting Forum / Icon Requests

Basically the title of the thread, I am looking for anything, anyone has in mind, there are quite a few graphics we can replace without trouble, and it would please me to no end to have a few more unique things about the patch, and Item Icons seem to be a good way to make that Work.

Alright! As promised a long time ago, I figured out (or just pieced together...) how to edit Item.bin and Frame.bin without any adverse problems! It is quite simple...

First Step, open Shishi.

Second Step, open Item.bin or Frame.bin

Third Step, load up Larg's Palette, to portrait (so you can see a clear outline of what you're editing)

Fourth Step, Export the Item.bin using Larg's Palette,
(Now this is where things get slightly complicated, depending on the editing tool you're using, somehow load or change the colors of the first palette to Larg's portrait's palette, or load that palette if possible)

Firth Step, Edit what you want

Sixth Step, open Item.bin, and export it's palette

Seventh Step,  import your modified Item.bin (please name it something different...)

Eigth Step, Put in it's natural palette

Ninth Step, use CD Mage or CD Program to put it in game, the end result is...

Well I hope that helps our possibilities by a ton! Best of luck everyone with your new ventures in Icon editing!

EsperBlades, Spirit Whisperers[/size]

August 22nd, 2010

Summons are very... well very dull, in the normal game they are the uncontested best skillset with Short Charge. Now I'd like to change that, their formula has been altered, to coincide with their names, they, along with the Geomancers use well... the Geomancy formula.

The Esperblade's purpose is to be a mage-fighter, the Red Mage will still have a lot of use though. Since... he'll be a bit more versatile, the Esperblade's strength is his relatively decent HP, but his weakness is his lack of versatility, to even use his skillset, he'll have to use his swords power, which is very low.

In addition now is the ability to use 4 Summons each with each separate blade. Each blade is given a new purpose and role. It allows the EsperBlade to play many roles as the case is. Though as before, break the sword, break their power.

The Spriteworks of the EsperBlades

QuoteEsperblade - Subjected to a paradigm shift.  The esperblades will only be able to summon Espers tied to their equipped weapon, thanks to ARH. There are 4 subgroups with 4 espers each, to the tune of:  Healing, Support, Elemental, and Non-elemental.  Highly specialized but highly effective.  All spells are Faith-based, and all spells in the elemental and non-elemental brances have a 100% chance to hit.  Also forgive me for imprinting summon functions from my own patch :3.

Healing
Moogle - Range 4. AoE 2 - Wide-area healing
Fairy - Range 4, AoE 0 - Revives target with 50% health (Raise, basically)
Leviathan - Range 3, AoE 2 - Regen infliction
Silf - Range 3, AoE 1 - Drains 15% HP from targets.  (does AoE drain work, at all?  Would be nice to siphon life from a large area, while keeping things balanced for boss fights coupled with the drain cap ASM)

Elemental - Ifrit, Shiva, and Ramuh do the same damage with the same MP cost.  Titan is stronger (same MP?) due to range issues.
Ifrit - Range 4, AoE 2, affects both enemies and allies.  Fire elemental.
Shiva - Range 6, linear.  Enemies only.  Ice ele
Ramuh - Range 4, 3-way attack.  Enemies only. Lit ele
Titan - Range 0, AoE 2.  Enemies only.  Earth ele.

Support
Golem - Range 3, AoE 1 - Esuna-like effect, high success rate.
Salamander - Range 4, AoE 1 - CFa/100 * TFa/100 * (MA + 170) chance to inflict Berserk.  Enemy only.
Lich - Range 4, AoE 1 - CFa/100 * TFa/100 * (MA + 180) - Removes all positive status from the enemy.
Carbunkle - ?Confuddle? - Range 4, AoE - 1 - CFa/100 * TFa/100 * (MA + 130) - inflicts Charm, Confuse, OR sleep.  Enemy only.

Non-elemental
Bahamut - Range 4, AoE 2.  Affects both enemies and allies.  Higher damage and MP cost than ifrit.
Odin - Range 6 Linear - CFa/100 * TFa/100 * (MA + 140) to inflict either Dead or Death Sentence
Zodiac - Range 4, AoE 0 - heavy damage, no AoE.
Cyclops - Range 4, AoE 3 - Med-Light damage, wide area.

THE 5 SPELL BLADES

Will need redone. With the shift in focus here, it is necessary that we rename and repurpose the Actual Blades, which allow the use of these summons.
68
As it stands, Poaching now plays a very large part in the game's loot system, and has been suggested to be innate on all of Rad, Ramza, and Gafgarion's classes. This will allow a more unique feel, and also since they are hunters of a trade, I'd see no reason for them Not to Poach.

Second is the idea of ShadedOne on IRC, he came up with the idea to give Equip Change to all of Ramza and Rad's classes. Now this will be very quite effective! the AI might not know how to use it, but the player might Actually see a use for it, with Rad's rather large weaponry choice, as well as Ramza's varied list as well.

This is basically a recap and compilation of the role of History in Mercenaries, keep in mind it's not just about gameplay, but is intended to have a rich and story craving sidequest.

QuoteNew Addition: Historical Archives!
History plays a large part in Mercenaries, with a lot of the back story actually being told through these scrambled historical texts. Everything that used to be a proposition, is now a small snippet of history! Of course the rumors are no exception, hopefully I'll be able to figure out how to add more. But I have far too similar of a writing pattern when I write but first let me give you a slight base...

The three main books you read in the game are...

The Durai Report, which had gained massive success and is garnering resentment towards the Hyral Royal Family, it has now been released for 40 years and though many people have tried to refute it, Alazlam was able to respond in kind and point out how everything "fit". Frequently citing another book called "Memoirs of a Cadet" which was widely believed to be a work of fiction, until the Durai Report was released.

This book chronicles the life of young nobleman Badum Gillroy as he journey's with St. Victor to stop the cause of the Lion War, it is a tale of daring and danger, demons, monsters, and ill hearted humans fill it's pages but St. Victor and his team triumph over all. The book ends on a rather sad note as they descend into Orbonne Monastary, Badum leaves the collected diary outside, hoping someone would pick it up if he were not to return. Believed to be a work of fiction, written shortly after King Delita united the land, the Durai Report adds credence to this tale, and would mean that "St. Victor" was none other then Ramza Beoulve.

Alazlam has used these two books as a way to keep out debate for thirty eight years in total. Though shortly after he died of natural causes, historians came out of the woodwork, struggling to tear down Durai's legacy of "Enlightenment". Many court historians arose like locusts with many "unreleased" texts which painted Ramza as a cold blooded murder, but that only seemed far too suspicious to the wary public, and disregarded these new "manuscripts".

Griescher's Documents is the second book, written only years after the Durai Report's release, he was Alazlam's main opponent and his notes aim to prove that the Durai Report is for the most part nearly a fabrication. Griescher was the head historian for the Hyral Royal Family, it was tasked to him to show that the Durai Report was just misleading propoganda against the great founder of the current Royal Family. His Foreword places Ramza Beoulve as a dangerous Heretic who killed these innocent people lusting after the Holy Stones, who had no relation to the Hero King Delita. Before being able to complete his work, he died under mysterious circumstances. His unfinished works were collected and released, shortly after Griescher's death. Any serious historian studying the Lion War would take both the Durai Report as well as Griescher's Documents along with them in their journeys.

The final and most important book is called "Ruglia's Records" which chronicles the life of a young mercenary in the service of renowned mercenary Gaff Gafgarion. The story starts at Fort Zeakden, known to history as the Fort Zeakden incident. This book is Ramza's own personal journal, the only biases are his biases, no one elses. Truly the most influential text of the mystery surrounding the youngest Beoulve. Though many other court historians have arrived with their own "lost texts" the historian Hedin Fordring must prove that these are genuine articles and compile the journey's of Ramza Ruglia, into a single, coherent book. Armed with the Durai Report in one hand and Griescher's Documents in the other, the young historian journey's Ivalice on the thirst for further information on the Lion War.

Here are a few samples for Olan and Grieschers books. (Thanks goes to Kaijitani Eizan as well as LostMinstrel for writing up Griescher's foreword and a snippet of the Durai Report!)

I am looking for submissions for any random piece of the Ending of the Fifty Year War, until King Delita Unites the Land. Don't worry about grammar, I would be glad to fix it up for you, this also gives a good chance to be put in Mercenaries! I cannot wait for what you fellows come up with, there are a lot of propositions that need replaced, so keep the creativity flowing!

The role of Hedin Fordring, the young historian who stumbled upon the Ruglia Records. His role is completely unique. The Bar has been transformed into "Historical Archives". Which allows you to read through histories, and allow Hedin to study specific subjects, this will net you a few extra gil and Hedin will gain JP. Of course this subplot has no (planned) affect on the outcome of the game. It is an imperative goal of mine to show  that Hedin Fordring and Ramza are the two main protagonists, while Hedin researches the Ruglia Records and takes on many different subjects, Ramza's journey is just that of a book. To emphasize this, is the "Memoirs" Section of the Records, (used from the unused "Fact" section in our normal FFT)

Memoirs, to jog some memories is short for "Memoirs of a Cadet" a tale that arose shortly after Delita united the land, and had quickly become a favorite in households. Tales of daring young men, demons, brave women, and one heroic saint.,St. Victor,.Memoirs of a Cadet lends large credence to the Durai Report, since there are many uncanny similarities between the two. Many people now believe that St. Victor was Ramza Beoulve, and his childhood friend who lost himself to ambition, and rising to the rank of Duke was actually King Delita. With the Durai Report in one hand and the Memoirs of a Cadet in another, Alazlam's seat of power was guaranteed

With Ramza and Rad, Hedin will always be in your party. But Hedin has a double role... He is the only character that can "study" (attend propositions). Thanks to this he obtains Gil and JP (his gil is still of course, Ramza's gil.) But his JP is special, his main class (Historian) has a few unique skills. Well as I've said before, Hedin plays no active role in the game, but he plays a relatively helpful role. you only get one Hedin, of course. when you place Hedin into battle, he will immediately become a Crystal. This is the true worth of attending the sub-plot. He has a unique skill for the Mercenary and Hessian for Ramza. If Rad chooses to pick up the crystal, there will be a unique skill for Apprentice and Red Mage. So if you do intend to sacrifice Hedin, make sure to do so after you've unlocked their final two classes. Otherwise it isn't really worth it.

QuoteForeword to Griescher's Documents:

Let me get straight to the point...

Ramza is a fictional character concocted by Orlan Durai as part of his anti-Delita agenda. 99% of the story is untrue, because Alazlam is retelling history based on the Durai Report, which Orlan wrote, and we can't trust Orlan because of his anti-Delita bias.

Reasons for Orlan to hate Delita include Delita's manipulation of Goltana to have his foster father (Orlandu) arrested, Delita's murder of Goltana, and Delita's murder of Orlandu. In the Report, a "fake" Orlandu is killed by Delita. In actual history, Delita killed the real Orlandu. Orlan changes things in his report, having his foster father join with the fictional Ramza to "save Ivalice from the Zodiac monsters".

The actual Ramza is as the Church says, a heretic. There were never any Zodiac monsters in history. Ramza just kills everyone, and Orlan attributes the massacres to Zodiac monsters. Crazy I know, but consider Vormav as he is portrayed in The Manipulator and the Subervient  and Vormav as he appears in The Valiant. In The Manipulator and the Subservient, he is an agent of the Church, manipulating things with Delita's help. In The Valiant, after no time lapse, he is possessed by a Zodiac monster. Orlan stretches the truth, and paints Ramza as a "kind man", from a "noble family". He does this to establish a character to rival Delita, a stable boy of humble beginnings that rose to high standing through hard work. The people of Ivalice admire Delita, but Orlan tries to fu-fu him and make Ramza seem like a good guy.

Why did the Church conceal the Durai Report? Because it brings to light the Church's own manipulation of things. It was ultimately unable to triumph, as Delita, the clever opportunist, siezed the chances he was given.

Lastly, consider the ending. Orlan depicts Ramza as having miraculously escaped Murond. That didn't happen. Orlan is just a poor writer. He does this though to give Ramza a "larger than life" sense of being. He's from a good family, he stood true to his friends, he did things selflessly, and ultimately, he saved Ivalice from the "Zodiac monsters". His sister Alma, as least as she is portrayed in the Report, is also largely fictional. However, just as Delita showed determination and resolve after his sister's death, so too does the fictional Ramza show resolve to rescue his sister. However, fictional Ramza is ultimately successful, unlike Delita, but that is only because Orlan is mis-portraying history.

There is also the final scene in which Ovelia turns on Delita. None of that actually happened in history, but Orlan retells this out-landish lie to portray Delita as a manipulator that ultimately had nothing in the end (i.e. he loses his queen, he lost his childhood friend, etc.). He does this in one final attempt to portray Delita as a bad person, having "used" the fictional Ramza for his own purposes.

QuoteRuglia Records

Gariland Military Academy

Having left the Order of the Northern Sky and feeling hopelessly lost after the tragedy at Ziekden, I found myself questioning my own purpose in life. Still, I drifted back to the Gariland Military Academy, having nowhere else to go. It was there that I met a young sellsword named Rad, who was an apprentice to Gafgarion, a well known mercenary and an ex-Eastern Sky commander. They were hired to find and eliminate a group of brigands who attacked a prominent apothecary recently. When the group was spotted trying to escape town, Gafgarion and Rad gave chase. I decided to accompany them, feeling a mysterious sense of excitement fill me.

Mysterious Swordmaiden

While traveling through Mandalia Plains, we chanced upon a woman named Lavian being attacked by a group of brigands. Though Gafgarion wanted to simply cut down the rogues and continue on our way, Rad wanted to save the woman. A brutal battle ensued, in which Lavian showed herself to be skilled with a sword. After the brigands were dispatched and noting how dangerous it was to travel alone, Gafgarion offered Lavian a chance to join us.

A Surprise Evening Melee

As I searched Sweegy Woods for suitable kindling for a campfire, I came across a Dragoon and a group of armed fighters. The Dragoon informed me that a melee battle was about to take place and that the sole survivor would win prizes. I was surprised when he told me that I would be a participant as well. I attempted to call for help, but the Dragoon bluntly stated that I would be killed on the spot if I did. Reluctantly, I took part in the battle and won. Afterward, I questioned myself for getting caught in such a situation, and wondered about the zeal of the participants in this bloodsport.

QuoteMemoirs of a Cadet

Cuchulainn
I've seen many creatures in my life. The kinds of monsters and beasts I've encountered in my travels with St. Victor have been too numerous to count. But nothing prepared me for the sight I witnessed in Lionel Castle. It was a demon of unimaginable horror.

Apparently born of the auricite, it invoked within me awe and a crushing fear...
70
Hmm, I've come across a bit of a concern. Which I think I will need some feedback to help with. I plan on not allowing the player to obtain all the jobs at the start of the game, meaning that I don't want people using Hessian and Red Mage as soon as Chapter 2 comes about. Though also I don't want All of the advanced classes to be used in the first chapter. Here was my idea for a split...

All of the Base (well of course), all of the Secondary, and all of the Composite Class will be available in Chapter 1. With at the start of Chapter 2 all of the Advanced Composite and Tertiary classes will open up Except for Red Mage and Hessian. I plan on those opening up in the Chapter 3 Patch.

Now there are some pros and cons to this system no matter which decision is made. My worry is that people will become bored if they unlock All the classes in the first patch and there will be very little to drive them forward for the rest of the patches/chapters. Also in Chapter 1 some classes themselves are hardly usable because of the lack of usable equipment available in that patch.

For instance, Warder's first weapon isn't available until Level 25, which the max level of equipment in Patch 1 is Level 22 and all of the Level 20+ equipment is considered "rare" for that patch.

The cons of this setup is it stifles creativity on the part of the player. It doesn't allow as much customization as would be possible ordinarily.

So I leave it to you. I will leave a poll up for a week and Please if you do Vote, please post a reasoning of why you voted one way or another, thank you for all the help you may give in refuting or supporting this decision that depends solely on your votes.

Interesting... quite a few odd ones in there, though how on earth is the gambler even closely related to the Dark Knight? I must have missed something close regarding to such...

Mercenaries / Silence exchanged for Addle
November 18, 2008, 06:32:49 pm
Anyone familiar with FFTA, will recall what Addle is, that it is a status effect which doesn't allow you to use any of your skills, but unlike Silence does wear off after a time. Asmo came up with a great point that silence is too hard hitting and damaging to only One sort of unit, and that is the magic user, so in our efforts to balance the playing field, Silence has been turned into Addle. Though it does appear that Lydyn had done this first in his Shuushin patch, so as well I must give him credit for this idea, would this be a problem with anyone? Also we might want to decide how long this can last, Addle is a very powerful status, and many spells and skills that Silence will need changed and altered. {Will make Golden Hairpin more useful at least, heh...)

Mercenaries / Summoners... what to do with them?
November 18, 2008, 02:42:33 pm
Summoners have been a mainstay of FF for quite some time, and I feel like I would be doing a dishonor if I would just get rid of them, Voldemort came up with a thought of "Phantoms". That in turn would nearly make them into Illusionists, I will definitely need more thoughts on their new function, I plainly do Not want them to trump every other magic class, with their over the top skills.

Gambler's, Warriors of Chance

August 22nd, 2010

Meet the Gambler, in which their skills require a bit of luck and skill to use to the best of their ability. From basic buffs, to random debuffs, to full field effecting skills, as well as skills which emphasize their generally lecherous behavior Gamblers prove to be a unique addition to Mercenaries.

They as well are PA based they can equip Helmets, but not Armor, their primary weapons are Decks of Cards.

Philsov and others are  to thank for these skills! Make sure to give them your thoughts.

Reliquian, the Purveyor of Relics

The Reliquian is a very strange class, which takes the powers from assorted old items and unleashes the latent powers within. Ranging from broken pocket watches to the soul of the first mage, this class proves to be quite an interesting interpretation. Unlike Draw Out, each of the Relics will maintain their use the whole of the game long.

Quote"Keepers of sacred relics from a clan located in the ruined villages in Zeklaus Desert. In times past, they were mere merchants, traveling amongst their families to scrape together a living. In the long run, they had to resort to explorations to find a source of valuable goods to sell. Throughout their expeditions, they fell upon various relics of ages past. While holding onto these relics, they transpired to descry their powers and shared their prowesses with the rest of their trade. However, the Church felt threatened by these relics, and began hunting down Reliquians, one by one. Only those who had mastery over the Relics survived the holocaust, and they went into veiling. In turn, Reliquians restricted others from using the Relics in vile ways, by scattering the relics to the Ivalician ash, ne'er to see the light of day again."

As well the Reliquian is nearly a PA based class, the only exception being the Orb of Minwu, in which is MA based.

Fire - Burn - MA * 6 (MA + 50%) Range 3, Effect Area 1, Vertical 3,  MP 8, Chance to inflict Haste- The most powerful of the Invoker's spellbook, yet also one of the most inaccurate. It's power is augmented in it's spread damage.

Ice - Freeze - MA * 3 (MA + 40%) Range 4, Effect Area 1, Vertical 1, MP 6, Inflict Slow- It's power lies not in it's damage but in it's ability to slow opponents, as well as it's top of the line Range. It's cost is cheap, and even one hit could turn the tide.

Bolt - Shock - MA * 2 (MA + 70)%) Range 3, Effect Area 0, Vertical 10, MP 15, Inflict Stop or Don't Act or Don't Move- As one can plainly see, Shock's power lies completely in the status it *can* do, it is the highest vertical of the spells (of  course! How can lightning Have a vertical?!)

Fire 2 - Tremor - MA * 3 (MA + 50%) Range 0, Effect Area 2, Vertical 0, MP 12 - The earth rumbles and shakes underneath the opponents collapsing here and there. The power of this lies in it's DO range, it causes no status effect.

Ice 2 - Gale - Dmg_Random(1...4)* MA (For now PA...) Range 4, Effect Area 4, Vertical 2, (linear attack), MP 14 - A truly unique attack, with a gust of wind blowing forth from the caster, Pushes all enemies back, in a straight line.

Bolt 2 - Engulf - MA * 4 (MA + 60%) Range 2, Effect Area 1, Vertical 4, MP 10, Inflict Poison - Many large bubbles appear and explode over the targets, it power lies in it's relatively high damage and it's guaranteed poison.

Poison - Spirit Surge - MA * 5 (MA + 45%) Range 5, Effect Area 0, Vertical 3, MP 18, Inflict Confusion - A surge of Holy energy comes forth from the user, inflicting the unit with conflicting thoughts and emotions. Very inaccurate, but very powerful, the longest range of the Grimiores.

Death - Dark Chant - MA * 2 (MA + 65%) Range 2, Effect Area 0, Vertical 5, MP 8, Inflicts Charm or Confusion, - The targets soul is infused with a lesser dark spirit, that bids servitude to the Invoker, taking possession of the target, or stealing it's voice.

Flare - Explosion - MA * 5 (MA + 30%) Range 4, Effect Area 2, Vertical 2, MP 20 - The Invoker's most destructive spell, as well as the most inaccurate, from a distance the Invoker let's fly a large explosion.

Scryer, Students of Latent Potency

Current Status: 75% Complete

(It is still absent of a sprite)

The Scryer replaces the Chemist, but completely changes their roles. Only keeping versions of the original chemists skills in three of their moves, and two unique and important items one can retrieve are the Faith Blessing's Rune and Fury's Strength Rune, which are the only ways to raise Permanant Fury and Faith, and their JP cost will be quite a bit. (This goes without saying, don't use it on Gafgarion!) As you can guess these will be two extremely rare items, which you just won't find anywhere. And since it's a 50/50 chance of working, it is probably best to use them only in Sub-Missions you know you'll have no trouble with, it's inadvisable to use them for any strategic use. But without further ado, the specs of the Scryer.

QuoteWith the fade out of traditional magic a century prior, the Glabados Faith attempted to seize the field of magic by storm, readying many doctrines to stop the traditional magic practices, should they ever come to the forefront once more. They were challenged by a hitherto unknown group called "The Apophis" an ancient group that used unfamiliar magic. They would have quickly been labeled Heretics, if they weren't protected by certain members of the parliament of the time. The church had to fall back and rethink their current strategy.

The Apophis spread schools of a unique art called "Scrying", the students of these schools created many different runes of varying and miraculous powers. The practice flourished for years with many common folk making their living as Runics (those who create the stones) and Scryers. Many of the Scryers earned their livings well, healing the sick and enrolling in the town defense forces of the period. Though there were some who abused their powers, doing such despicable acts as enslaving a village and forcing the people to create Runes for them, this group of Scryers were called "The Streetears", their name was said to come from a grand city of the Golden Age of Ivalice.

The church now had all it needed to justify a "Heretic Hunt". The Streetears were slaughtered to the last man, the people freed and they were subsequently celebrated by the church, their testimony made famous, and the country sympathized with them. It was only a matter of time before the people themselves were raging over the Scryers, this little flame turned into an engulfing inferno. The Runics abandoned their Scryers and the Scryers weren't able to mount an offensive. Many Scryers submitted to the church bringing with them a number of Runics. They were brought to live in Murond and their very descendants occupy a small section of the Holy Place.

Most of the Scryers fled to other shores, some fleeing to Romanda and Ordalia, others making it as far as the Land of Oracles and beyond. Runics are forbidden in Ivalice, but their runes still make it onto many market places. As people have little use for them, they often give them away as trinkets. Parting or homecoming gifts are the most common time they are seen. Scryers in recent days have made a come back in the public eye. They were assisting Ivalice in the tail end of the Fifty Years War, to check the enemy Scryers. The job of Runic though is still held a monopoly by the Glabados Faith. The High Confessor Funeral does not seem content to allow them to openly spread the knowledge of their craft.

I have been given much assistance from the spriters here and continue to rely on your magnanimous aid. So without further ado...

There are still many, many, evtchr's that have yet to be dealt with. and all of the event scenes in between the battles aren't done because of... well... evtchr's.

Let us take the planned scene of Ramza first becoming a Mercenary, that will take an immense amount of evtchr replacement to have Rad and Gafgarion sitting down at the bar, what to use as reference for this would be the Beowulf and Deep Dungeon scenes, located deep in the evtchr's. The artistic direction from that point on is up to the spriter.

As well, when the crew makes it to Igros, I need an evtchr for Blansch IX's father Blansch VIII, now Blansch himself is quite old, so imagine what this fellow would look like? Heh... Using as base the "First visit to Igros" with Delita, Ramza, and Algus around the table, so just change those three to Lavian, Ramza, and Gafgarion, with Rad standing up, but that won't require an evtchr of course. Dycedarg's part would be Blansch the VIII, for easy remembrance.

Before Igros there is after Mandalia, when the troupe meet Lavian formally, replace Algus with Rad, Ramza with Lavian, and Delita with Gafgarion, Ramza can just stay to the side, he doesn't need any evtchr there.

I think that's all for now, oh yes, a generic Female Dark Knight, if possible as well, feel free of your own choosing for that, they play part in a couple of battles.

Mercenaries Spriting Forum / Mercenaries Art Thread

Hmm... I wasn't going to make this at first, but if I recall we have a rather dedicated couple of folks to such. So, I'll post a few pictures I found throughout the internet that does Mercenaries justice.

If anyone would like to join or help with this project, feel free.

Spriting / Mercenary Sprite requests
September 25, 2008, 04:05:31 pm
Cyberblade did a wonderful job on the few Evtchr.bin sections, but it appears he is not around anymore, so I'll need to rely on the charity of you fine fellows. Of course you've all done a ton of work for me already (Vanya with Rad, Zozma with Blansch, Bolmna, Lavian, Alicia, Cheetah with wonderful ideas and a few portraits which will really help the overall presentation)

So to get to my requests...

I hate Ramza's chapter 1 and 3 sprites. His chapter 1 almost looks like it doesn't fit him, as if they're too large for him. It is also missing the cape from the production art. (While it is only around for four scenes and two battles...) I would still like to see this sprite with a cape.

And though it is only four scenes, I would like the following expressions for "Squire Ramza"...

Joyful, downcast, angry, and despaired. (This deals with my plan to give character's more expression by having changing portraits during events)

Since Ramza is a Mercenary for 99% of the game, I will need a large range of emotions for the Mercenary. Basically, anything one can think of would be good. I need all the help I can get with this specific venture...

Ah, and before I forget, I would love to see if we can replace effect summons. The Summoner will have four secret skills (based on FF4) The Bomb, Mind Flayer, Goblin, and Cockatrice, all received from them in a 2% chance for them to have the skill. This is important in a gameplay perspective.

Next is a Evtchr for Blansch's father (I only need one frame of animation for him, (but from each side would be good, since I'm not sure what way I want to present him yet)

Also I need a lot of Evtchr.bin work for "Meet Lavian" after Mandalia Plains. Basically for starters, I think replacing Ramza's evtchr with Lavian and Algus's evtchr with Rad, Ramza would occupy Delita's spot, and Gafgarion wouldn't have a lot of Evtchr, business in this event.  If anyone's interested please feel free to post.

Well, I have been involved alot with many kinds of different hacking, but I use the Gameshark Handbook from time to time, in there I stumbled across what seems to be a nearly forgotten code, the ability to extend the job wheel! This was a great find, which I believe had been lost in time.

194   801C83F0 00??       [16] Number of jobs

Now if This wasn't amazing enough! The story just gets started from here...

There are many strange jobs on this Job Wheel... Cardinal, Engineer, Cleric, High Priest, etc... but what stood out the most was, as far as I was aware did Not exist in FFT At All. The Moogle, which any text editor would know does not exist in our text editing banks of classes whatsoever...

This struck me as incredibly strange and his classes description was talk from the Soldier Office.

I turned Ramza into a Moogle, just expected to see a mistaken text edit of my own perhaps... but it was No Such thing! As well he curiously had Item as his primary... so he has a Skillset as well as a class...? How strange...

Ramza as a Moogle could equip any weapon but no armor! Now this fits well with how Moogle's are portrayed in six, they could wield many different kinds of weapons. I thought to turn a generic of mine into a Moogle, just to see what would happen, well... game crashed. My guess is that there is no sprite assigned to the Moogle job, or a broken one... even so... wouldn't it just be a shadow? Well in any case, from that point on, the pictures in the Formation before battle becomes screwed up.

Ramza's class in the Formation screen also changed to the "Chemist Job command", now for the kicker... I start up the battle, and I automatically get a gameover! Now this could have only happened if Ramza had turned into a Crystal or Treasure Chest. I turned Mustadio into a Moogle and proceeded into battle, now this came as a large surprise to me... he was a Treasure Chest with transparency, but yet you couldn't step on his spot to retrieve his treasure chest, the AI took centuries to decide what to do..

And that's all! Final thoughts... A Moogle class? But where is it? In our patcher there is nothing that even Hints at a Moogle class! And yet here it is... what else does this game keep in it's code...

PSX FFT Hacking / Porting WoTL back to our FFT!
August 28, 2008, 09:31:32 pm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w75azCfxOCY

It has been done! Thanks to Zodiac's event compiler we can take full events from WoTL and add them to our game! The evens seem to work completely! The only slight problem was a few random Japanes characters, but it's very easy to edit them out and fit it. I do believe that we are close to a Renaissance!

Lately, in preparation for the Sweegy Woods 4-Way Duel,  I've been doing a lot of event searching and editing. I believe I've stumbled upon some of the most important pieces of event editing. While looking through the Serpenatrius fight, I noticed that there was an odd command called "[85]" and attached to that was "2F". Since there are only exactly 2F treasures, it got me thinking... "Could this be how the game gives you the Serpentarius Stone?" I tried just the [85] - 4F command to no avail, so then I figured, it must have something else to do with it... That's when I found an absolute treasure trove of information...

BE and B0 are some of the most important instructions the game uses. When it comes to treasure, the game jumps up 20, since the lower numbers are more then likely used for another function of it... The treasures start at 20 and end at 4F.

For instance...

This is achieved through...

Now most importantly! And the one I'm still having trouble figuring out how it works is the ever encompassing, on our mind Map functions! These commands somehow decide which places open, which places close, etc, etc. Now, since I was using an event that didn't bring you to another event, I was stuck in Lesaliia, which didn't allow me to see it's full effects, thought this is most certainly the key to unlocking our own passage through the game!

The Lounge / FFT Dub
July 18, 2008, 10:26:03 am
A group from a canadian (I think it's based in Canada?) voice acting website have started to dub the original FFT. Now I feel like this project has a ton of potential, but simply because they are FFT, they probably won't get too many views, if we could give all the support we can to another flourishing FFT community, I think it would give them the will and drive to continue on.

Or Gaff Patch, whichever you prefer... this patch aims to be like nothing seen before, new classes, new bosses, a fully revamped classes. 16 secret abilities, one for each primary class and a method of exploration to obtain each should keep even veterans excited. So far there are 300 some new skills added, certainly a few have been taken from FFTA, but there are quite a few that are completely brand new.

Overview:
As you are traveling with Gafgarion and Rad (unique sprite supplied by Vanya) the whole game, your main antagonists will be Lavian, Alicia, and Agrias respectively. Lavian and Alicia have two unique sprites (as thanks to Zozma's wonderful work on Jenna and Misty) Lavian, Alicia, Rad, and Gafgarion all have new skillsets, Lavian is a Fencer, her pure prowess with a sword is unmatched, Alicia is Gaia's Lance, just as her commander has sworn fealty to the Heavens she has sworn fealty to the Earth, has many spear skills that dare to rip her opponents asunder. Rad is an Apprentice, he unlike anyone else in Ivalice has harnessed the starting power of Red Magic, though can't use it fully. His Double spells have a chance of acting only once, as if they were a normal spell.

Party:
Your official party is always Rad and Ramza. You can't mold Gafgarion, he's your boss. Rad though is your Apprentice, Containing completely different skillsets from Ramza for the majority of the jobs in which they share. There are many new basic Classes, each with their own assorted threads on this board. The other units that are "on your side" are always already deployed on the battlefield, but unlike normal "guests" you can control Gafgarion and any other guests you happen to have, at the time.

ScreenshotsBasically just screenshots of that which is done, more then likely on video, there are a few exceptions though...

Video Updates:I will be updating the project with video's of my work to show in person what is changed and what not, reading is good, and pictures are better, but they simply can't compare to the medium of videos. I have up four video's currently, the intro of Mercenaries, Two Ability demonstrations, and an Exodus preview. As well as t he second event and battle teaser.

Gaff Patch Demo
Lion War Tourney
Mercenaries Intro
Exodus, Esper of Libra
Gariland Guests
Lavian Luna, Mandalia Plains
Sweegy Showdown, Voldemort Attempt

Features:
The Lion War!
Take active part in this epic battle, Join either the Black or White Lions while chance and skill may lead the day, don't become disheartened, expect a grand prize at the end! 10 battles in all and many guest appearances from many different units, all dependent on the side chosen!

New end boss battle! At the end there will be a boss battle with Exodus the Esper associated with Libra, how this all comes about, you may ask? Well that would be giving everything away!

Exodus, Esper of Libra

Secret skills and Class inheritance! Part way through the game you will recieve an item called "Band of Abilities" which if you had been picking up crystals (from everything else but Squires and Chemist) you would notice odd skill receptions which you don't actually have access to, for instance Blood Sin with Invokers, Doom Archer for Archer, etc. Well the Band of Abilities unlocks these abilities for you to use, but keep in mind you can only recieve these abilities from crystals of those fallen classes, go for all 16!

New storyline! Past Zirekile the game takes an incredible turn! (as can be read from the title...) With Ramza and Rad staying with Gafgarion a whole new adventure awaits!

New Addition: Usable Treasures!
In events one may happen upon a rare item named after one of the "Treasures" in the normal game. Now these are not just normal items, each time you obtain these one of a kind, brand new items, it will be added to the Brave Story under their proper treasure! Obtaining them all is an arduous task though. It is not as simple as winning them in battles, watch for decisions, they may affect outcomes to a considerable degree.

New Addition: Unique Skillsets for Rad/Ramza!

With advances in FFT Hacking, our leader Zodiac created a tool called the Ability Requirement Hack, the scope of this program is too large to discuss here, but it is what makes this possible. Rad and Ramza now share two unique skillsets for the majority of the classes in Mercenaries. This is done for the purpose of enhancing their characters and truly making them different from one another. In addition these skillsets work fantastically together as a team. If Synergy is needed for a specific fight, then take advantage of some of the more specialized skills in the varied skillsets.

New Addition: Bounty Hunting and the Warden's Office!

Once again with the help of Zodiac, The ability "Poach" has been changed into "Bounty Hunter". This is not just a simple name change. In randoms, sidequests, and sometimes even story missions there will be unique units, with special descriptions. These descriptions read right off of a wanted poster, telling the player the crimes of the Bounty and their strengths, also including the two "tickets" one can receive for capturing them. (Not to mention you will likely get a Gil Reward at the end of battle purely for them) If these units are defeated with Bounty Hunter equipped (Gafgarion always has Bounty Hunter innate) their capture will allow you to obtain a "ticket" at the Warden's Office and buy the item reward.

New Addition: New sidequests! At least ten in each chapter!
There may be times in the game, when you see odd places open up, with a red dot, these unsurprisingly will open their way to sidequests, some of them will hold some importance to the storyline while many are there purely to gain additional gil and items.

New Addition: Historical Archives!

There is also the final entry in which Ovelia turns on Delita.

Well, I recall a while back people were having trouble with switching palettes on non generics, well I think today I might have stumbled upon a way to do it.

The only requirement is the sacrifice of a monster for each one...

Open FFT Patcher, go to Jobs, head down to any monster you want to replace, let's say for instance... Red Dragon, now 1-49 in M. Portrait are actually the graphic they will assume in battle, we'll use 33 for this instance, which is Zombie Zalbag. Putting in a palette higher then 0 for him will of course make him completely black since he has no extra palette. This method should work for all specials. Sorry if it's a bit of rough explaining, but if something wasn't understood, please don't hesitate to ask.

EDIT: The classification of M. Portrait, M. Palette and M. Graphic appear to be wrong. M. Portrait is the graphic the Monster will use, the Palette is of course the graphic. but M Graphic appears to be classification of monster, for instance, Reis's skills will work on a monster that has 0xF, in comparison to one that has 0x12, which normally isn't used... but it doesn't count as a Dragon regardless.

For shops...

Anyhow, I was going through files yesterday seeing what could be viewed and edited by Shishi and there was quite a few I'd say the most two exciting ones I found were...

FRAME.BIN

ITEM.BIN

These should increase the possibility for sprite editing all around the table, now if only we could locate the weapon's attacking graphics...

EDIT: Oh, I'm a fool they're in the WEP.SPR folder in Battle. I think I'll try my hand at a few custom weapons.
89
Well, I tried my hand at spriting and it seems quite fun, I managed to "fix" Funeral, a slight fix anyway I gave him white mage arms for all his functions (possibly a mistake...) he loses his unique Talk Skill pose, replacing such with just arms raised, and while his physical attack pose was fine before now it is just a jumbled mess, may it deal with two overlapping animations? Also, I plan on making a battle where St. Ajora and the Zodiac Braves from legend are present, as a different introductory battle of sorts. Of course for this I will need a working Ajora sprite, which I am slowly making from Meliadoul, while that Meliadoul is almost perfect her attack animation are as well very askewed, currently I've removed her hood (or at least tried) from every sprite frame. But a few were just backshots of her hood, so I removed them completely with White Spots to remember that there is supposed to be something there.

EDIT: Just took another look at St. Ajora's portriat and he's wearing a hood! Bah! Ah, well... it was an interesting experience anyhow, and makes my job a little easier overall.

PSX FFT Hacking / Editor... fun?
March 24, 2008, 01:33:01 pm
Well I've been having a bit of fun switching up events (since I thought those things would blow up in my face in a wonderful fit of anger)... but it is not so!
I'd like to see what other random things people have put in their events. It seems like such an easy way to enjoy one's self.

EDIT: A little bit more experimentation, seems to say that the "Balbanes sprite" is in fact, one of the two Alma that are present. (Changed Alma to Algus, a shame he didn't cry, that would have been a sight to see)
