FFTA/FFTA2 Hacking / Re: Changing music
May 31, 2017, 09:37:18 pm
Not sure if you were still looking for information on hacking the battle music for FFTA, but just in case...

Modifying music in GBA ROMs is actually pretty straight forward, but like all rom hacking it's pretty tedious, since your music won't always turn out how you want. But with some patience, midi editing skills, and ... I don't know. Spoonfuls of peanut butter. You can make the music mod of your dreams with FFTA~ /o/ (or with any GBA ROM)

The best guides I've found, that I can think of off the top of my head, are from these sources:

http://www.feshrine.net/hacking/Fire%20Emblem%20Music%20Hacking%20Tutorial.pdf
https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=121856
http://pokemonhackersonline.com/showthread.php?t=120

And an example of what's been done in the past:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDOORFyVT6w

Google is definitely your friend, here. Other communities have made some stellar progress with music hacking. The easiest and most quick and dirty way of changing a song is obtaining a MIDI, converting it to a .s file using mid2agb, and then assembling the song into the rom using a tool called Sappy. It probably won't be a very clean and satisfactory way to do it but it can be that simple sometimes. You'll need to edit instruments and tracks, loop the music, maybe even try porting Blazer's All-Instrument Patch to FFTA to make things just sound nicer from the get-go, but for now I recommend finding all the GBA Music Hacking guides and tools that you can. There are bunches~ ^^

I'm surprised anyone has even considered modding Tactics Ogre with the new PSP remake's awesomeness eclipsing the old version.

I have to admit though, I'd rather hack the old game rather than the new one. Awesomeness notwithstanding.

And if you think the military is not gay, then you've never been hazed naked in a shower.  Nothing like doing push-ups naked in a hot, steamy shower while dozens of other muscular young men like yourself are slipping and sliding over each other, and a burley black man in a green Ranger Rick hat is yelling at you in Batman-voice.

Totally not gay.

Neither is crawling into a sleeping bag with three other men during a field exercise to keep warm because nobody brought tents and it's raining during 40 degree weather.

Or punching each other bloody everytime someone has to leave the Patrol Base because you gotta give blood for your blood-brothers.

No, of course not!

The Lounge / Re: What makes FFT such a popular hack?
February 13, 2011, 12:05:16 am
Because of the gameplay. It has what I considered for the longest time the best representation of FF's job system, and a very interesting Reaction/Support/Movement-Ability mechanic. It also has a ton of special abilities and additional content to modify and isn't full of FMV's and voice acting to worry about removing for the sake of your mods. As a hacker/modder, you feel as though you're in complete control of everything the game has to offer. The only other PS1 game I'd feel similar about when it came to hacking would probably be Dragon Quest VII. There's plenty of potential in that game too, only, nobody has hacked it yet (As far as I know).

Aren't gays allowed in the army as of like...3 weeks ago?

His points are what have been driving me away from the series more and more over the years. It's the feeling of lack of respect towards fans that ruined the series for me.

So many sequels, prequels, spin-offs, MMORPG's with a main series' numeral slapped onto it, etc. has spread the series out too much, and made some games inaccessible to fans or just flat out undesirable. Just look at the MMORPG's. Who wants to spend years of their life grinding just to get through a game's story? You can't even collect MMORPG's, which defeats the purpose of being a gamer in the first place, imo.

And then you have sequels and prequels and on various different platforms. That's too much money, and too many hours spent wasting time on something that doesn't have any other reason to exist other than to milk a franchise for $$$. From a business perspective I can understand why they'd do this, but the fans may end up moving on to other series if they keep it up. That's just my opinion of course.

I have to admit though, it's amazing how they've done so much to FF but continue to keep DQ very fan-focused. It's probably because they fear DQ fans will burn down their offices if they change so much as a sound effect file. :P

Quote from: "mav"If you have other completed monster sprites, then submit 'em, by all means. If there's one thing lacking on the Custom Sprites page it's monster types.

That's exactly the reason I began working on Monster sprites, actually. I wanted people to have more options for their patches, and classic FF monsters are definitely lacking. Some reworked current monster sprites could also be nice for those with patches not based in Ivalice.

Quote from: "mav"Anyways, keep steady, Ryu. Sure we'd like to see this completed, but real life always comes first. Work on what you have when you can and be proud of what you've got.

Thanks. :) It's nice to not feel rushed into finishing these when you have so many other things to worry about, but I definitely want these to get finished as well.

Ah, very nice Smash. :) I like what you've done with the eye, and the effect on the bottom especially.

I only get to work on sprites for a couple of hours at night, so I'll probably work on this more for a while then post my progress. Smash's sprite has given me all sorts of ideas I want to try, along with that forum he linked to. I just may clean up the other monster sprites I've been working on and post those here as well when I get a chance. Oh, and, I'm probably going to change my Blue Mage sprite a bit, but I'm just far too attached to that damn smooth hat thing, lol, so that may not change.
