This makes me wish I actually knew how to drive... I really have to get around to getting my licence one of these days.  I wouldn't consider anything but a cheap sports car.  There are some really sweet models in the second hand market for 10-15k.  When there's so many awesome affordable cars why buy one of those hideous boxes?  One of my friends just bought a brand new model of the most generic looking car ever.  It performs great, it's a good car, but come on... he payed like 40k for it... he could of got something so much better... meh.  When I gave him a hard time about it he pulled over and threatened to kick me out.

I don't like trucks either.  It's nice being able to see over the rest of the traffic, but at the same time you're blocking everyone else.

Non-FFT Modding / Re: FFT mixed with a bit of FF10?

FFVIII and FFXIII say hello. The first Final Fantasy didn't have MP, either. Though XIII is the only one that didn't replace MP with a worse system. Actually, XIII's battle mechanics are fun once you can choose your own party and paradigms.
Oh yeah, how could I forget about the first FF when I still own it and play it now and then.  And I forgot about XIII too, it's been a long time since I played it and I didn't play it much.  Never played VIII, it didn't really look like my kind of RPG.  I'm not actually that big of an FF buff, my brother is though.  I'm just a huge FFT buff.

Anyway... kind of going off topic, sorry...

On topic though, thechancellor, do you plan on having any character customisation?  Hair style, face, etc... for example in FFT when you change class your character completely changes appearance, I'd rather the outfit changed but not the face/hairstyle.  And main characters didn't change appearance, but I think they should.

The problem with not allowing main characters to change job classes kinda seems like it arbitrarily limits what they are allowed to train in.  I don't see why Agrias wouldn't be able to pick up some Mediator skills.  At the same time though, it isn't very realistic for her to no longer be able to use the other skills she knows.  I know it's for the sake of balancing the gameplay, otherwise characters would be way more overpowered than they already could be.  So yeah, I don't know what you intend to do there, will characters only have access to the skills of the class they're currently in?

Also... characters should have noses.

But... but... you can't have an RPG without MP... it--it's tradition!

What about MP that restores gradually during the battle and fully replenishes between battles?  And instead of your typical mana potion have a potion that gives you temporary MP in excess of your max MP?

edit: The Skies of Arcadia style could work too.

Don't forget about the Cube and the Leaf.  And I'm sure there's at least a couple more hideous Nissan cars.  But I do seem to remember them having a lot of nice cars too.

My most hated car of all though is the Chrysler PT Cruiser, it looks like a Nissan Cube with down syndrome.

Edit: Lol, just noticed the name change to the thread title.

My favorite car is a Dodge Viper, but more for aesthetics than actual performance.  Although it performs nicely too.

Yeah well, Ultima is a car brand too.  Ultima Sports Ltd in England.

I really like CT5Holy's commentary, especially how he talks about the teams before the matches.  So far I've only watched the preliminaries, and I really enjoyed Torgo's beastly team.

Well I could be wrong, but Altima is also known as Ultima.  They are two names for the same character.  Ultima the High Seraph, aka Altima the Blood Angel, aka Ultima the Holy Angel which appears in other FF games as well.

The only thing I liked about it was the fact that you can play with or against your friends.

I think your questions show that didn't understand the game or its plot.  You say the plot was bad and had so many holes due to budget and time restraints.

"Bad planning is what caused their plan to fail."  So in other words, if the Lucavi had planned things better (ie. the story was better written and hadn't been cut short) then the Lucavi would have won and... there would have been no way for the player to beat the game?  I mean it sounds like you're saying better planning would have caused their plan to succeed.

"How come then later they needlessly endanger their lives and in other cases end their lives all in order to bring back a rather weak Lucavi who wants to destroy everything?"

Ultima had like 999999 HP... the only way you can beat the game is by either metagaming or using Cid and Agrias.  And... are you telling me you don't understand why a demon would want to destroy everything?  Because that would be even dumber than not liking Alma for no reason at all.

"what would they be able to rule and have power over if everything is gone?"  I think you are confused.  Don't you remember Weigraf's speech about no longer caring about his ideals and only wanting to bathe in blood and destruction?  Maybe you just didn't read the dialogues carefully enough.  I don't think there were any plot holes, only plot points that you missed because you spammed the O button too fast just to get through the game or spent hours power leveling and forgot what was even going on in the story.

If you think you're a good writer because you're able to make a living out of it... then what about FFT's writer?  I think you're just jealous because he's a more successful writer than you, and by your own standards therefore a better writer than you.

FFT Arena / Stop on self
October 12, 2013, 03:25:20 pm
I just noticed something while watching some matches.  This probably isn't the right place to post it though.  If that's the case you guys can feel free to redirect me.

Anyway, what I noticed was that when a character casts stop on themselves, because the person they targeted moved right up to them, if they change direction to face the target and stop theirself then, after being stopped, they turn back to face the direction they were originally facing.  So what I am thinking is that they should not change direction, but remain facing the new direction they were stopped in.  At least that would be more realistic.  I wonder if petrify has a similar result.

What do you guys think?  I know a lot of things in FFT are not designed to be very realistic, so maybe it isn't worth the change, but I think it would be good to do it in an upcoming patch.

The original FFT is too great a piece of art to deserve so many silly criticisms.  I mean, really it's like you just don't like the fact that the people who made the game weren't clones of you.

And that is only referring to the criticisms that made sense.  Take number 15 for example.  You're pretty sure them being ultima demons wasn't part of the original story?  First of all everything about the story is incredibly complex, and it's writer was a genius, so there is no logic behind that assumption.  Furthermore the marquis was in the story from the beginning, the holy stones appeared very early, and the whole turn over from Dicedarg's plans to the demon's plans is smooth, gradual, and rooted in the plot from the beginning.  You can not have that smooth a transition without careful planning.  Obviously you are not a writer.

Sorry if that sounded harsh, it's not intended to be.  Of course there is nothing wrong with having your opinions.  I just don't agree with you.

So, if those are the things you didn't like about the game, what did you like about it?

Sup everybody, I just joined.  I'm a huge--HUGE Final Fantasy Tactics fan.  I mean, the only game I have actually logged more hours on was Counter Strike.  Oh man, the day I broke FFT was when I gave Ramza blade grasp when he had 97 brave and a reflect mail on, and then boosted his brave to 100 in battle.

But yeah... you all know that trick...

Anyway I actually found this site from watching the AI tournaments on youtube.  I remember the first tournament ever, I chatted with the uploader a bunch but when I told him to make more I think I kind of offended him in some way and he stopped talking to me.  That was a long time ago though and I just recently looked to see if any more tournaments had happened and was really excited to see more.

I actually downloaded Arena138d, but I have no idea what kind of file it is or how to use it.  I also tried to use the TeamDesign thing, but I couldn't get Excel 2007, and in Open Office it isn't interactive at all (I got the impression it was supposed to be).

But yeah, I'd love to know more about what you guys do here, and to eventually be a participant in the next tournament.  I must say I was really sad when CT5Holy lost to pxtimefordeath in season 2.  I was rooting for CT5Holy to win again, but congrats to pxtimefordeath for winning that tournament.

So far I'm only up to speed on season 2, I actually just realised there were more seasons while I was writing this post.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here, this looks like a great site and forum.
