Gariland's save (between Military Academy and the Gariland battle) is acting strangely. Opening the save file makes it look like hell froze over.

It only happens on this save. It only happens if you save here and have to restart from this save (such as by losing this fight or putting the game down), playing from the beginning has no effect on this screen just loading from the save. Playing from this screen is fine - it doesn't corrupt anything if you continue from here, and the battle loads normally. What is going on? :(
If I'm correct, this is a bug we experienced in JotF... it has to do with the custom portrait being assigned through the ATTACK.OUT stuff... I don't think we ever figured out the cause. Maybe you could insight us on what you changed? ¯\(°_o)/¯
The only thing that has changed for this battle in the attack.out was removing setup events, which I used this guide to do so:

I only removed them in the beginning events (before Mandalia) and in a couple other places where I could use the setup event as the first one in a battle (and the "regular" event to be the victory).
Well, right off the bat, my only theory is that it bugs because it's missing a setup event...
And you might want to wait a few weeks, because I got a spreadsheet in the works (that I will hopefully finish) that will make restructuring all that stuff way easier.
The bug was actually in TLW. The only fix we figured out was to make it a save/formation instead of just a save. It happens in the same spot you have listed there.
I would try putting the setup event for that spot back in and see if that fixes it.
Save/formation fixed it, and was actually a better result (since the player can learn skills on Ramza before the battle). Thanks. :)
