Title: Eventg Decompiler: How do I use it?
Post by: Nagafen on July 27, 2008, 07:44:46 am
See, I've used it to give me every event in the game, and to be fair, even though I've edited all the character names, I still can't change sentences such as "The guards have arrived Princess Ovelia" to change the names or structure. Does the decompiler allow me to do this, or can I just use it as a reference.

Nah, it cannot recompile currently. The only way to edit events right now is via hex editing.

Ah... ah well. Is there a point where you think you'll br able to do it without hex editing? Beacuse I really have trouble with the use of it (Not that good a mathmatician)... And no one seemed to want to teach me... Agh, I'm useless...

I was actually wondering the same thing, glad you asked that question.

So for us laymen, the event decompiler is mostly for gee-whiz info and not anything really practical right?

Not to diss your program BTW, I still think its cool and interesting.

well in priority:
- The site
- ASM hacking
- The event decompiler

I DO plan to turn it into an editor, but it would be nice that during this time people discover the uses of unknown instructions.

Basic hex editing doesn't require math. PM me and I'll teach you the basics.

Btw, I found a few tidbits while editing the first Zodiac battle:

4D xx: causes map to fade in (without this, screen stays black)

8A...8B: shows an animation sequence.  May also do other stuff as it is essential for the proper functioning of the battle vs Queklain.

11 00 00 02 00 00: stops all unit movement

I've only tried this in one event, so I won't be sure until I've done this with other events.

So by substituting various numbers, you can change what kind of introduction occurs? Neat.
