alright, so i've been about creating a new class from scratch, but about a quarter of the way through sprite editing, i try to import the .BMP in order to see, using that option in the editor, if the sprites are acting accordingly.

well, the sprite editor gives me an error message when i try to do so and doesn't show the sprite sheet. anyone know why? i have 'drawn' on the sprite, that is, i've added, say, a hat onto a character. could this be why?

What does the error message say? Hard to help.
I refuse to play Final Fantasy Tactics again until I am able to do my FF6 patch! And, FFT 1.3 doesn't technically count as FFT: so there!

if you've never worked with this before there is a pretty good chance that the image you are trying to open in shishi has over 16 colors IF its the right size and everything.

it was because of the 16+ colors. after getting graphicsgale, it showed the palletes/color schemes, and they were in sets of 16, so now everything is so much clearer. thanks people

i should have a moogle done in a few days complete with skillset 'Perform!' i'll load some images some other time, kupo!

So there I was, messing around with the editor to see if I could fit a .bmp rip of Luso into the Shishi-Editor. My intention was to make a PSX version of him.

However, I believe I came upon the same problem as you, with the unfortunate addition of not quite understanding how to use GraphicsGale. Could you tell me what exactly you did to solve the problem?

heres the best solution i can think of.

modify the color palette of an existing sprite(copy) to have the exact colors luso has and export the file
copy/paste the luso sprite sheet into that newly exported bmp of the sprite you just changed color palettes of. save that and it should let you import it into shishi.

I have to apologize in advanced. I'm actually fairly new to sprite editing outside of as "just a hobby".  I may not quite understand everything yet. So, I should take the copy of a sprite ripped directly from the image (say Mustadio) and modify the colors to that of Luso.

Do I do that in GraphicsGale? The SNES Palette Editor? Or Shishi (and how)?

After that, I then merely export mustadio's edited sprite as "luso.bmp", copy/paste in Luso, then finally import "luso.bmp" back into Shishi. Correct?

thats how i do it, and to modify the palette i open the sprite with snespal and change all of the r,g,b of each color to match that of the sprite exactly. sometimes in order to get the values of the colors to change in snespal i use another program like gale or gimp. in fact you probably don't need snes pal at all as long as you match the colors exactly (on the exported mustadio for example, save it and paste the luso on it.)

(i just prefer snespal because im used to it, also i do all of my editing in mspaint because again im used to it....)

im not good at explaining things all the time... sorry, but if you need help with something feel free to ask ill do my best to assist.

That certainly is a lot of colors I have to adjust in Gale...  It seems I've about lost my place 1/3 of the way through.  How wxactly would I do it in SNESPal? I tried to use that program first, but:

* Only the first square was able to be edited.
* "MUSU.SPR" had different colors listed then it's export "musty.bmp", and "musty.bmp" had the same colors listed as "luso.bmp"

you can only edit one color at a time in snes pal, then you have to press the > button to move to the next one

I... I knew that...

Anyways. I think I now understand my issue, and will play around with them tonight. I just need to edit Luso's color into "Musu.spr" and -then- export, right? If so, I think that's where one of my mistakes were.
