I just started hacking FFT I have the FFTPatcher and some hexeditor. I'm Haveing problems making custom sprites, text editing, and job editing. All I have is Paint and something I d/l'ed that i can't remember the name of, so any suggestions there would help too.

WELCOME TO FFH, WHERE ALL YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE.

GIMP and GraphicsGale are the top preferred sprite editing softwares.

text editing is done with the tactext utility, found in Vanya's post.

And... job editing?  Buh?

I have the tactext thing and by job editing I mean changing the name of mime job and it's skillset name.

That's what TacText is for. FFTPatcher changes statistics and such, but all names and ingame text are replaced via TacText.

Sort of like this - FFTPatcher doesn't recognise a job or ability by its 'name' but by its ID. Ingame, whenever that ID would appear, that's when the name comes up. TacText changes the names tacked on to each ID. You can even modify the game script.

I have yet to look into HEX and ASM myself. Seems complicated.

Alright, time to get to it then. Also is there any problems with editing the mime skillset? As in does putting skills in it glitch it or do i have to assign it a different skill set and put the skill i want it to have in that one.

yes.  mime is rather hardcoded and would take some in-depth reworking to function like a normal class.  If you meet any level of success do let us know =\.

Now I have a new problem, I patched my game using fftpatch but I get a box that's a jumbled up just before they start talking in the monistary at the beginning.

I don't recommend monkeying with the Mime job. I tried it and I got so frustrated I found myself yelling at my computer screen. D:
Instead, I recommend tweaking your job change wheel. Try adding a job, saving it, disabling the cheat, and then resetting. It should save the cheat and the new jobs will be permanent, and then tweak those to how you'd want them.

That doesn't save on to a patch though, does it?  IMO, that's no good unless it carries through a patch.

I've had to restart my patch from scratch. For some reason while I was testing it the ability Dash made the game crash.

I have not clue because I didn't change dash at all, but there was also a squire that was ohko'ing my units there with a crossbow.

Is there any way to change the color of spell, i.e. make cure blue instead of green.

yup.

http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2116

shows some work by zozma.

As for HOW he extracted the files, that's another story, and probably worth a PM to him or Vayna.
