Title: What would I need in order to patch WotL?
Post by: s and e on July 24, 2008, 04:48:37 pm
I'm thinking of buying a PSP along with WotL, and I believe I'd like to try the 1.3 patch, should a PSP version ever be made for it.

I'd like to know what I would need to do this, as well as an idea of how easy/difficult it would be to pull off for someone who knows very little about computers and whatnot. I've heard that the fat PSP is better for this sort of thing, but if it turns out that patching is going to be too difficult for me, I guess I might as well get a slim.

Anyway, any help is appreciated. =D

1.3 will come for psp please be patient

I will add a section in the forum, the READ ME, as well as in the download FTP for the PSP patch when it's ready

the 1.3 .ppf file cannot be converted to a PSP patch

I'm sorry, I think I may have been unclear.  I didn't mean to ask how I could get a PSP version of v1.3, I just wanted to know what I'd need and how difficult it would be to run a patch on the PSP.  Sorry for the confusion.

Well, that's certainly heartening!  But I'm still curious.  What will I need in terms of equipment and programs for the computer?  I'm hoping not too much.

The pandora just puts the psp into service mode so you can install CFW(custom firmware). I bought mine from the codejunkies.com store. Fat & slims need the pandora.

If you have a slim  and desperately want CFW just mail your psp to me and I'll do it for free.

Any will work. You just need the ability to play games off the memory stick.

This should be stickied. So Folk like I wont come to chat or annoy mods
(especially sexy fine mods) with questions about the psp.
Google Psp hack forum.
It'll lead you to the psp community where you acn get emulators and stuff workin.
Better to ask there or for a direct link.
I havnt touched any hacks since i bought fft release day didnt feel like spending a 10 mins when i just got a portable fft.

My Avatar's the best.

Hacking the PSP is extremely easy.  I would recommend getting a slim (I think they are just all around better).  You will need to get a pandora battery.  I just bought mine so I wouldn't have to make it.  I believe Datel sells them for around $30.  Once you got that, I've got a program that will automatically set up your memory stick for hacking.  You'll essentially just have to hit go! and yes a few times.

Once your PSP is hacked it is extremely simple to patch the game with tweaks.  It is a little more difficult to add sprites, but only the first time.

All in all, I'd say go for it!  I love have FFT on a portable unit, and the multiplayer battles are a blast!  I'd be happy to help you with the hacking if you need it.  (I'd even do it for you if you live close enough)

You pretty much explained it.

It really is quite is. Some guy helped me using the PS3 chatroom  function. Simple.

Just a few more questions...

1.  In order to install the pandora battery into a slim PSP, would I have to open it up and fiddle with anything?  I get sort of squeamish when it comes to that sort of thing.

2. What sort of memory stick would be best for running patched games?

1) Opening the battery up and physically modding it into a Pandora battery is one way to do it. I hear it's not hard to do, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're good with opening electronics and soldering parts (and I don't blame you about feeling squeamish, since I would feel the same way too). Fear not, since you can buy a Pandora battery off of the Datel's codejunkies website. As Tersius already mentioned, they're about $30.

2) Any memory stick pro duo will do, so long as it's large enough to hold the files (As a quick reference, an ISO of the PSP version of FFT is 400 MB) Personally, I wouldn't buy any memory stick that's smaller than 2GB.

I have a 4GB memory card for games and it works fine, but then again I have a old fat PSP.

The only requirement for a magic memory stick is that it is "magic gate enabled," and less than 4 GB (technically you CAN turn a 4GB+ mem stick into a magic memory stick, but it is a real pain).  I used a San Disk 2GB mem stick for my first magic memory stick because that was the most economical one at best buy at the moment.

Also note that turning a memory stick into a magic memory stick is NOT permanent.  When I did it, I backed up the saves on my memory stick, made it magical, hacked my PSP, then I formated it and put the saves back on.  You only need a dedicated magic memory stick if you plan on doing a lot of customizing to the PSP's firmware (which you don't have to do for FFT patching).
