Help! / Re: 999 Fire and Non-elemental magic damage
April 25, 2010, 10:10:25 pm
FFTPatcher won't allow any rare items from vanilla FFT in shops for some reason. If you open your patched ISO in FFTPatcher, you'll notice that no changes have been made to the shop inventories where rare items are concerned. I think you'll have to delve into the game's coding yourself, but I wouldn't even know where to start.

As for the 999 magic damage, did you happen to ASM hack anything? Perhaps you could open up FFTPatcher and take a screenshot of one of these abilities.

Yup. Using FFTPatcher, find 188 under the ENTD tab and edit the jobs accordingly.

I should've explained better. I know that removing job requirements alone does nothing. I'm working on all the other components. It's because I'm balancing the jobs that I removed the requirements, not the other way around. So far, the multipliers/growths are the most difficult. I have this dumb obsession that all five multipliers for each class need to average out to 100, and that the growths also need to be equal in some way. Doing this is making the classes a bit too powerful and somewhat hurting the diversity.

I eliminated all but one job requirement from the job tree since I wanted jobs to be balanced instead of tiered. I made Mime require 8 in everything and gave it nice stat growths; the main reason was to have enemy units know plenty of abilities from each class so they can have random setups and still be somewhat threatening, but it's also a nice incentive for me to master everything. The biggest problem I see is that enemies will only know skills from their primary class if the job they have unlocked in FFTPatcher is set to anything but Mime.

Geomancer is one of the jobs whose skillset can't be changed for generics since it won't function properly. There's no solution currently, so the best you can do is to overwrite a job that does. Ninja, Lancer, Mime, and Samurai can't be changed. Calculator is a popular choice, just make sure to change its action menu type to default. I think Archer will work if you change it to default, but I'm not sure about that. All the other jobs should be fine.

For Paladins, I'd suggest:

An ability that uses Seal Evil's formula and has a chance to inflict Dead. Paladins are the sworn enemies of the undead, after all.
An ability that copies the FFTA Defender's Aura skill.
An ability that's like the Defender's Expert Guard. I would say have it inflict Wall until the user's next turn.
An ability that makes the user and allies 1 panel away have defend status. With the ASM hack that reduces physical damage while defending, it could be useful.

Winter is actually my favorite season, closely followed by fall. I get hot easily, so cold weather doesn't bother me as badly as it does to other people where I live. Also, no bees is a huge plus since I have an extreme case of apiphobia (yup, fear of bees). Glad to see I'm not the only one who hates the little buggers. Snow is rare around here, so I don't have to deal with it. Plus, the skies are usually gray and block out the sun. I hate the sun. <_<

Sorry if I'm blind and this was already requested, but I would like to request a complete goblin sprite.

How are you NOT supposed to think they're gonna use cursing? There's just no way with how they lead you on.

I looked up some images and you're definitely right, it's Sydney. I guess it's obvious that I never played Vagrant Story. <_<

I really love that Adelle portrait...I'd steal her spritesheet in an instant.
Is it just me, or does Marche's hair look kinda...off? Like he's got a bobcut.
All in all, these look pretty awesome. Who is the guy in between Ashley and Zack?

I have FFTPatcher 0.457 and haven't changed any sprites yet. I didn't extend the ISO, though...I'll give it a whirl.

EDIT: Doesn't look like it did the trick. Perhaps starting a new game would help? I'll try it later.

You mean the unknown flag that appears with all of the different shops in the Items tab? That's checked by default. The unknown "shop" in the Shop Inventories tab has all the items on the right side lists by default as well. I never changed any them, so there's no worries there.

I checked the boxes for every shop to carry them

<_<

I guess I should have worded it better. But yeah, I've already got them set up to appear in every shop. All the accessories are on the right side lists in the Shop Inventories tab.

Help! / Rare accessories not showing up in shops
October 20, 2009, 05:41:18 am
There are 7 accessories that can never be bought in a normal shop: Genji Gauntlet, Cursed Ring, Vanish Mantle, and the four perfumes. I checked the boxes for every shop to carry them and I made them available in the beginning of Chapter 1, but still no dice. All the other accessories show up just fine. Are these 7 hard coded to never appear or something?

I only played Twisted Metal 2, but it was very fun. The thing that stands out the most to me was the Grasshopper vehicle's special. HAW!

I'm pretty sure that utility that edits battle maps will let you change how many squads you have. I can't say for sure since I can't find the thing anywhere.

EDIT: Found it! And yes, it does. You can change the number of units you can place up to 5, so no worries there. The utility is the ATTACK.OUT editor.

I...I knew that I said Don't Act...<_<

Yeah, I meant Don't Move. Whoopsie!

I think this is a pretty good idea in theory. It's just probably going to be a little difficult to pull off. By putting an "Attack" command into every skillset, some jobs lose an ability, and some might not be able to pull it off properly. An ASM hack to make every weapon hit anywhere on the map is vital. Item isn't too big of a deal if you're not planning on using them on enemies. Just place all your allies certain formations so items can fly freely between them. There's a utility somewhere that will let you edit a 5x5 grid where you place your units before battles. You could even change the maps for story battles if you so desired. Throw can be fixed, too. Give every class a move of 9 and Innate: Don't Move. Then change all equipment that grants immunity to Don't Act and every spell that cancels it. Voila, Throw range of 9 and still no moving!

I still haven't found a solution, but I did notice another thing with FFTPatcher. When I open it up and create a new patch, some of the checkboxes briefly flash every second. Also, the checkboxes in the Animations tab work just fine. O_o

Hopefully that means something to somebody.

EDIT: Umm, I don't know how, but now they're finally working again. All I did was install AVG and started scanning...and my comp overheated and shut down. Strange, but I gots mah boxes working again!  :P
