Title: Retarded AI discussion and solutions
Post by: Zozma on September 27, 2009, 05:29:22 am
Any ideas people?

AI gets really retarded, especially with black magic.

Solutions? I cant simply give every mage "short charge" or whatnot that would be lame.

What do you mean? You mean AI wizard dies before casting?

there are many problems.

The AI tries to cast when it SHOULD know its gonna go down before landing a spell. and other times it casts on its own people as if they werent there.

lowering damage? maybe it sound silly...but AI tends to cast that could easily kill enemy in one shot, or rather deal huge damage...even for an oracle, petrify will be most likely rather than the rest.

Have you tried philsov's idea, sir Zozma?

Hmm.. I don't know much but maybe you can experiment by placing 2 skills first,
then if they're fine, test another one.. and so on..

what was his idea?

I want to leave the damage values the same, but why are the ai being so retarded... why i say!

So essentially the AI casts things on team members when before they casted on another spot to still hit the enemy but avoid team members?

Pretty much. If you watch my video Miluda get's owned by Fabian leaving her with only 2 HP an letting me rush in for the finishing blow.

is it possible to set the enemy's AI the same way u can set your own like "Save A Fading Life"etc?...
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 27, 2009, 11:34:51 pm
it seems like the settings are different, im not sure how to avoid it except making spells one sided like summons are

Post by: Luminar on October 02, 2009, 12:44:05 am
i put it in spoiler cause i dont wanna flood this topic lol, target enemies should be checked for the offensive spells under AI Behavior, under the Formula hit allies could possibly effect it, but do the unknown boxes look like this?...

I think the thing you need to configure is the AI settings.. since that's how the AI uses said spells. If it knows not to target Allies, and has the right HP/MP, etc boxes checked, it should function correctly.

but im talking about how even the spells that already existed like fire, ice, bolt etc are like that too

Yeah about the AI i noticed there always trying to do something on there turn, but cant think what will hapend once there begin to charge a spell.
So an AI move in your knight to cast Fire 2 on him. But the Knight turn come before the spell is cast and kill the caster in one attack most of the time. If he do survive,His spell will make the caster kill himself...

In short, the AI dont paid attention at whats will hapend after he begin casting a spell.

This gonna be very hard to fix it because of that.
I think the only way is giving em No-Charge...But thats not really an option.

i just think, other games with offensive spells can only hit the enemy. perhaps thats my only real option

Zozma AI have used spells like that since the vanilla.

So if you make testing what box does what you may find the problem, fix it or both.

i think those boxes have all been tested tho

Making spells not hit allies? This may be abused by the player, but this will at less makes the AI not kill himself or his allies.
Yeah but still a good workaround fix for me. The best one yet.

Hang on, did you change the calculator to other job ? Because doing this will make it calculator not hit allies using black mage spells and stuff...making it even more overpowered. (But im not 100% sure about this...)
Title:
Post by: Zozma on October 06, 2009, 12:32:03 am
calculator is not available
changed it to a blue mage

I was just randomly playing through again, and a Priest in the Thieves' Fort used Cure on one of my units to heal Miluda, but then Miluda walked away to attack someone else and the Priest ended up healing me s:

Thing was though, if the Priest had moved back 1 square and over 1 square, she wouldn't have had to use it on my unit.

I was just playing through 1.3 like 2 minutes ago and an enemy NPC used Ice II on 1 of their units, and 1 of mine.

It may not just be that its your patch.

Only thing that I could see fixing this is either making spells to target 1 square (noonononononononononono) or "hit enemies/allies" or "target enemies/allies".

I am seriously contemplating the enemy only targetting option for basic offensive spells. I know it removes an element of "tactic" from the game, however, if the enemy AI is too stupid to understand it then it gives the player an unfair advantage anyway, and my focus is not to help the player, but to help the AI. That being said, I think this might be the right approach.

AI behavior is hard stuff. :(

QuoteI am seriously contemplating the enemy only targetting option for basic offensive spells.

I guess it's safe to stick with that..
They will still hit allies..

Yea Zozma brother, fix this AI bug. They dumb as shit except the Assassin at Desert. Kinda smart at least. She will use Allure/Seal at higher levels at least.

And the Sorcerer will use his Melt/Holy spell on high levels also. He spam Haste at start but when he comes in close, he usually try some Slow or maybe a Melt. LOL Melt... I like MeltDown!

im going to do it

Black magic will now hit enemy only (unless of course if your character is charmed)
