Title: Jot5 Wikia is up
Post by: brittmarv on April 27, 2013, 02:05:01 pm
Warning: by nature, Wikis are intended to be full of spoilers!

jot5.wikia.com (http://jot5.wikia.com)

Anyone may contribute!

Lol, I did not expect this. Hopefully some people will pitch in and add some stuff in.

I am sure they will.

Right now I am trying to make it more eye catching - If anyone has any custom background they think would spice things up, that would help.

Elric, is there anything you would prefer _not_ be public knowledge in the wiki?

It's a wiki, as long as the spoilers are labeled there shouldn't be an issue.  We've always said we have no intent of making anything like a Walkthrough, Master Guide, etc. etc. but wouldn't stop anyone else from making the same kinds of things.  Just don't expect us to help. :v

EDIT:

Well, I GUESS I can provide some images like the Title Screen or World Map for the Wiki since you can easily obtain those anyway, so you can get things looking nicer.  Just not helping with any documentation.  Half the fun is seeing how other people document it after all. :v

No problem. Thanks for making such wiki-worthy content guys!

Pretty much what Raven said. We won't make a walkthrough or much like that, but others are welcome to. After all this IS a fangame, and made for fans.

As for Background there is this:

and this:

Choose whichever you like for different parts of the wiki.

Here's some other stuff you mind find useful:

SCEAP, Title Screen, World Map.  These are all very easily obtained from the ISO if you have any clue what you're doing so I don't feel bad posting them up here.

I think it looks pretty sweet now. I darkened the bottom of the background Elric sent to make it fade into black more smoothly, and then I inverted the "Journey of the Five" text in the logo decal. I had to remove "final fantasy tactics" from the image because at the low resolution required for a logo by wikia, it became illegibly blurry.

Thanks for upping those iso images. I am new to Wikia so I haven't got into selecting multiple page layouts yet but I'm sure that more advanced users could work wonders with any media available!

nice, I just saw, though you should remove that default flower picture :P

But like we said, People are free to make walkthroughs and post videos and such. Our whole thing was, you don't often see
the team that made a game being the ones who also put out a walkthrough or strat guide for it. The fans do that, and it should
be no different here. IF fans want to write walkthroughs they should do so. It'll probably help other fans in a way that we won't do.

Besides it would be fun to read some of the walkthroughs and see what was and wasn't missed.

One more thing, I will likely be doing some editing to the wiki tonight, but since I myself am a bit behind the times, I just
want to verify that I only need to make a Wiki account and I can then edit this right?

Yes you should be able to edit freely after making an account.

I am learning wiki language from scratch but it helped to rip some source code from the actual FFT wiki to learn how to make charts. :)

I'm actually shocked by the ease and functionality of the Wikia page editor. We have come a long way since Aol 4.0 and Angelfire/Geocities pages. lol

Edit: What flower picture? I am not seeing one for some reason
Title: Re: Jot5 Wikia is up
Post by: 3lric on April 27, 2013, 05:38:32 pm
If you click on the pictures Tab, there is one that says default, and its a flower.

And yeah the first site I ever made was on Angelfire, and then when I was in a band
we had our site on Geocities. Both were a pain in the ass.

Thanks. Got rid of that pesky flower once and for all.

Hey Raven, are those area pictures on the world map exclusive to JoT5? I can't seem to remember them being on the original map for some reason.

Yes, the Journey of the Five world map is custom.  Taichii and MikeMitchi put a lot of work into making it look thoroughly bad ass.

Correct, Taichii and Mitchi edited the worldmap for us. Nearly everything in Jot5 is redone.

Can you add people as admins as well on Wikia? I think I can help with various layouts (like editing the bg\logo). ;)

Send me a message on the wiki and I will upgrade you. I just need to figure out how to do it real quick but no biggie.

And thanks, can't wait to see you work your magic :)

EDIT: Figured it out. Just promoted RavenOfRazgriz

Hmm, how about adding some sprites in the job descriptions? Most jobs have new sprites, or are reworked, so it would be good for people to see it.

The ff wikia is a great reference for this: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Tactics

We should copy how they put things there. :))

Some of that one looks good Mitchi, but I don't really like how the FFT Wiki have their jobs, or rather much of the home page at all XD

We atleast give people the option to click on Jobs before we should them what they are lol

This is a great suggestion

I will be mostly dealing with fleshing out raw data, myself. But I would love if someone would step in and start sprucing things up with images.

Next I will be working on Move-Find Item.

Yea, I totally peeked at their source code to familiarize myself with how to set things up, like the tables/charts.

Good point there. And you have to click yet again to get to Side Character Jobs for that same reason - it is gonna be full of spoilers!

The charts for the abilities on the FF wikia are also terrible because they only have one Vertical column and not two (There should really be a Range-Vertical and an Effect-Vertical column), which always made that site mostly unusable to me when wanting to quickly look up how a skill works before I just started leaving an FFTPatcher on my hotbar.

I'll poke through the Jot5 wikia today and fix the tables to properly include this since it's pretty easy to do.

EDIT: k it's done.

Just want to say that I have been without internet for a day and a half. Everytime it rains a bit, we lose internet because some wire somewhere underground is damaged and once the water soaks into the ground it loses continuity. AT&T likes to give the runaround so there is no telling if/when it will get located and fixed. And.. more rain is comin tonight so I will try to update the Wiki as much as I can while I can.

You are absolutely correct Sir.

Too bad their only alternative here is...... Hughesnet. Which is actually worse, if you can believe that.

I do believe that.  I'd get on the phone with AT&T during the next storm and have them troubleshoot it while it's down.  If you're willing to use a couple of hours of time on a cellphone with them you might actually get them to open a trouble ticket and send someone out.

I use AT&T too, and I know how they can be....but there are no real alternatives other than Satellite and Cellular here either.  And they're actually pretty good if you don't have technical issues with 'em.

The real trouble is the fact that we have MagicJack for our phone. So if the internet is down, then so is our phone. And our cell phone only has a small amount of minutes, which will all be used up anytime we call AT&T with it because they don't properly keep track of our previous conversations so every time we call it is like starting over. That, and the fact that they just do not seem to care enough to want to fix our problem. They just keep giving us the runaround and trying to sell us new modems, anything they can do to waste our time. It is very frustrating. The internet is pretty much always on snail mode as well. But alas.

Where should I put learn-on-hit skills that I find? I found one for Ramza, but I don't know if I should put it on his job page or as a skill.

I would add it to his skill list

Wiki is updated.

The front page now has a compatibility chart to aid people in finding a working set up to play JoT5.

I may expand this into a generalized Help page if anyone has some good suggestions for a layout or ideas to put in it.

Added Summoner and Animist pages. Had me worried for a bit what with the beefing up of the job level requirements.

Yes Al, thank you very much. My save is stuck at the end credits for chapter 1 so I haven't been able to continue adding things such as jobs. It's very nice to see someone jumping in and picking up the slack :)

I accidentally beat it as well so I started up an old save and am slowly working my way through all the classes. Battles get a little rough when you're level 60 and still learning new jobs! Thank you both, and I love to help.

Added Geomancer and Dragoon. Geomancer sure was a novel, haha.
