I'm partial to the Malboro green myself. Good work, Kage.

Should we update the portrait? I feel like his portrait makes him look much older than the sprite does.

And great stuff, Jimmy. I'm so glad you're back.

Teal/blue and green for Hokuten. Black, gold, red for Nanten. Brown and green for Death Corps. Pinkish red, purple, and white for the other. It's hard to say what the primary always is, cause a lot of it depends on the sprite. Some of them can handle three colors, others can only handle one or two. It depends. Always take a look at the original sprites' palettes when you're making your own.

The female also has a somewhat sterner impression than the male--the eyebrows and the mouth are less calm and more fierce. This may also be leading to the illusion that she's masculine. I find the portrait fine, personally.

Careful with those dark pixels on the right side of her face and the back side of her hair (above the braid) and take Mando's changes for the mouth. The male looks pretty good, I'd just rather not see the hand in the portrait.

I like the male Mindmaster a lot. The female looks great too. I'm gonna request that you make her ponytail float when she casts, just cause I think it'd look hilarious.

The male looks damn near perfect. I'm not a fan of the clothing style on the female, but it's still pretty nice. For the skirt, I would replace it something akin to a loin cloth. Like Ayla, from Chrono Trigger. Your call though, cause she might end up looking trampy.

Sorry, I didn't have much time to devote to this, but here's a 16 color portrait for you.

I know you've been asking me to help out with this, but I'm kinda swamped for the next week or so. I'll get to it once I have some more time.

Keep in mind that those "older sprites" also have portraits with more stern-looking eyes, like Orlandu, Gafgarion, and Goltana. Sad-eyed Simon has eyes that match his portrait.

The gray/white and navy blue combo definitely works, so keep that as is. You can experiment with changing the boot colors, but I really think you can get away with the current palette. Thickening the beard would also be a great idea.

Oh man, I love this palette. The zoomed in version looks exquisite, but the boots and pants blend in the zoomed out version. As for the sprite itself, I think it looks good; it resembles him well. Except for the eyes. McSleepy over here does not need angry eyes. I also pictured the character as less of a warrior and more of a scholar, but the execution here is great, so I don't care.

Right--it's only evident on two of the palettes, so I'm not sure how necessary it is. One of the hair/skin shades isn't completely necessary though. And there are some very minor corrections that could be made to the sprite too. Again, I posted these palettes if Twin wants them. It's his sprite, so he can make the changes and use these additional palettes if he wants to.

I dig it. If one of the spriters could get this done soon I'll revamp the portrait a bit.

Alright, I'm replacing my previously edit of the green portrait with something more like what I've attached here. It matches a lot better, in my opinion. I'll probably have to tweak the saturation a little bit though.

As for the portrait palette, it's all used up. If Twin wants to drop one of the hair or skin shades to make space for another armor shade, he can, but that's up to him. It can certainly be done.

Thanks for the compliments and quick responses, guys.

The portraits are getting a bit funky though, is it because a hair or skin tone is used for high lights in the armor?
Yeah, that was the tougher part of this--some of the darker shades from the hair are also used on the skin (which isn't too tough to deal with) and the armor too (making the blue and black palettes look a little strange). I might take another swing at this in a bit.

Well, I tried. They didn't turn out to well. Input on fixing them is welcome. Twin, you don't have to use these by any means.

Pretty good start on an interesting project. Just keep in mind that Malak's hair color may have a few less shades than some of the lighter skinned characters' in the game. Do you have any other work you wouldn't mind posting? It doesn't necessarily have to be FFT-related.
