Title: Chocokin
Post by: digitaldragoon on March 02, 2009, 08:58:19 pm
Ok, here is the long ago promised (on spam no less) Chocokin Female first look.  Critiques are definitely welcome since I am not far into the sheet as a whole.

Lol ^^
It looks bit funny =p
Maybe because i can't imagine a chocobo head on a human body =)
Anyway, is that a chocobo helmet or head?
Because the first and the second, kinda looks a helmet because there are a pixel or two of human face palettes near its eyes.
Also, the fourth's eyes looks like its looking back.
Sorry about the comment. Just wondering ^^

Comment is totally appreciated Jimmy.

The more I look at it, the more the choco helm looks like the oversized head that Rock wears in Soul Caliber.  I'm thinking of changing this to a smaller, more stylized helmet rather than the full sized head.

Maybe the large head would look better on the male...

Hey, erm...do you know how to change a skill, like a spell, from casting like a mage to strike with sword like beowulf?

Sorry, not sure on the programming side. This will actually be my first full sprite to date if I finish it.

I have shrunk the helmet a bit and I'm happier with the results.

I actually really prefer the first versions, the second wants look really uneven and odd. My recommendation to make the first ones look better would be to keep the size, but make it look more like a metal helmet. So expose a bit more of the characters face in a majority of the frames, and then change the feathers so that they are less fluffy and going in all directions and more like spikes.

Is their skin red, or is that just the helmet making it look like that?  Skin or faceguard, if it wasn't red then it would stand out better and look less like a Chocobo's head sewed on to a human's body.

Red = Red Chocobo, Silvas

Im glad you picked this thing up again :D. but agreedm the first ones did look less like you killed a chocobo and placed its skull on top of yours~

Hey Guys, I have this version of chocokin...

First thing, Wolfran: your color choices have led to an astonishing lack of depth (especially on the armor). Secondly, the "eyes" on the helmets look strange. Take a cue from the male or female Lancers and imitate those. This is pretty decent otherwise.

Whats so great about mutant overgrown chicken anyway..? Like pikachu, it's just a lame forced signature character by square's part

(I know it's useless, but it was fun to sprite)

Pfft pony.. It's a real mans steed! :P

Unless someone figures out how to edit alignments on sprites, this won't be anything more than a dream.. Or perhaps an un-mountable monster sprite.

Agreed. Though, it could fit in monster sheet.

EDIT: You said it before I could.

The chibi look is hard to avoid in FFT.

Either way.. Think there could be a chance to make normal units use monster sprites, or other big sheets? I was thinking I'd be useful for making in-horse cavalier units.

There's already the cavalier sheet, making the horse wouldn't be a big task.. Just a few poses and joining them in. Fire emblem cavaliers with horses would be the most epic thing to ever happen in all goddamn Ivalice

The only way (currently, unless we somehow figure it out on the alignments and how they work) for mountable unit is by using monster sheet. But the poses are limited; 1 to 3 tops, for attacks frames.

Imagine this was finished right now, with great poses all along, good animation frames all over, great palletes, ect.

It wouldn't change anything. This because it won't fit any of FFT's existing sprite allignments, hence the comments above. I was saying it could hardly work for horse like enemies in the monster sheet though, but those weren't the original intentions.

Before anyone comes saying it'd work great for a centaur enemy, it'd still look too cramped in the small space avilable, and would need some shortening fixes that would make it look too chibi.

Agreed. Cramming that in won't look good and making it look chibi isn't going to be either.
