Title: Making your own characters berserk in FFT.
Post by: A Blood Red Fox on August 08, 2014, 08:59:25 am
I wasn't sure where to post this. This seems like the most suitable place...

Is there any real use to making your own characters berserk in FFT? It does increase your PA doesn't it? Can it be used in any useful strategies? Or is it pretty much useless?

A Berserk Unit doesn't target allies, It only aims towards enemies. All you can do is pray that the berserk unit is in range to enemies, because that PA bonus is the bomb. Add Concentrate in the mix and BOOM 1 point BOOM 2 points BOOM 3 points. If you choose an Archer to be berserk then BOOM BOOM BOOM!

In vanilla berserk works best with ranged attacks.  The AI controlled character sits and snipes people.  Most useful with Haste and (if Berserk allows you to use reactions) with reactions and supports that enhance damage.

You people seem to forget the HUGE disadvantage with Berserk and ranged weapons.
Such a unit will hit obstacles or even allies aiming at an opponent; giving them a lot of 0% hits and friendly fire.
Melee attackers at worst will get 0% targeting a floating unit from below.

And no, berserk doesn't allow triggering reaction abilities (but does in Arena).

Haste makes any unit useful period.

That's dumb.  In that case berserk probably works best on fast and mobile classes with lots of attacks.

That's dumb.

Yes that's dumb. They're SUPPOSED to be dumb. They're enraged and can't think anymore; they lost their mind.
Confusion and blood suck will also have dumb AI behavior.

But I recall Blood Suck goes to the nearest unit it can go to. During the Elmdor fights I always use this trait to my advantage. By making HIM the nearest unit to move into, 1/4 his HP goes boom. Can't Blade Grasp that mouth huh Elmdor?

But as for confusion, dumb AI behavior yes.

Elmdor grasps fang in thumb and forefinger.
