Everyone, now it's time to starting submitting teams for this year's FFT Arena AI Tournament!
We are conducting this tournament with traditional arena rules and this format will be in Swiss Style.
You can submit your team by PMing me and the deadline will be August 28th 11:59 PM EST.
Once we gather all the combatants we will divide the brackets and assign hosting duties to those who volunteered.
If you have any questions please post here and one of us will be able to answer them. Thank you and good luck!

I might have missed this and apologize if I did, but are the brackets going to be seeded?
It depends on how many people sign up for the tournament. So far no one has registered
Well, I'm submitting a team. And I'm sure you will. If it's only us, we'll be guaranteed at least second place :P
Oh, I'm in.
We might want to send out some mails to remind people a tourney's happening and 1.4 is a thing.
I still can't get used to this patch, but I'm in this time.
I'm submitting at the last minute
Yeah, i am in as well. I will be posting closer to the deadline day.
When I receive team submissions I will update the first post to show off registered players
EDIT: After hearing silentkster's suggestion, what I'll do instead is name the people that say they want in. And worry about what team they submit later
I'll be participating for sure, but I need to actually make a team first :P
I have some teams in the middle of processing, I haven't decided which one to go with yet.
I'm in.
yea i wanna join in. i am just needing to go through the team and try and think of things that may be worrysome for it.
Creating a team, will try to have it submitted by Friday.
I'll be joining in, why not?
I'd love to join.
Quick question, is there a team building spreadsheet to use for the new patch? I'm on a new computer and don't have any of my old FFT files, including the team building spreadsheet which seems to have entirely disappeared from the site. I haven't made a team for the new patch because I haven't been able to find anything to help with teambuilding.
Hi Mudvayne,
The thread to which the spreadsheet was uploaded was unstickied because the spreadsheet is not yet updated to reflect the changes of latest patch. You can find the thread here (http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=8202.0).
I am currently in the process of updating this spreadsheet. It should be released in a few days.
@Mudvayne: The memory card generator doubles as a team-building tool, but please read the "additional information" spoiler in its thread before using it.
Just sent in my team last night. Here's hoping for the best this go around!
I'll toss my hat in the ring! How so I sign up exactly. >.>

You can PM me your team. You can also refer to the master guide here (http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=11428.0) to look up equips and abilities for your team.

Gotcha, shall I PM you on discord? :D
I already got the team from you. You're good to go. Feel free to make any edits you desire before the deadline. Just as long as its within the JP cap
Count FDQuinn11 and RedWorld in. I'll get 'em to make teams :P
Count me in, just submitted my team. Excited to see how things will go in new patch

Okay guys, time is winding down. Remember, deadline is at the end of the day this Sunday!!! (11:59 PM EST so for those of you in other time zones) Make sure you get those teams in!! If you have any friends or know of anyone who wants to join, make sure they get Barren a team by then!!
Good luck everyone!
Edit: I've been asked by a couple players to look at their teams and make suggestions before the tournament. I can't record matches for you, but I can test the team and/or offer suggestions on what I think might be missing or helpful. I'm willing to do that and I'm sure a couple others here are as well.
Can't decide between a revised mime team, 140 meta melee mime, or Mimic Ultima. All I know is after all this testing (2 hours worth lol) I'm looking forward to a team with Paladin taking this tournament.
Good Luck all.
ahhhhh hope this works!

(Ahhhhh must mean CT5 is running Dark Holy...)
Did you get my team?
I submitted my team a while back.
Come on tourney just 3 more days...
I got your team WKW don't worry. Also I'll be away for the weekend since I'm going to a Super Smash Bros Tournament. I'll take a look at the rest of the PMs when I get to the hotel in Boston
Quick question: is the format just gonna be Swiss all the way or Swiss + top4/8 single/double elim split? I think the latter is better since you still get all the benefits of running a Swiss tournament while still having a final match.

Ah ok I wasn't worried. Just didn't see my name on the combatants list so I had to point that out.

It will be top 4 then it's single elimination. But if everyone wants a double elimination after the top 4 has been decided then I would not object. It will be up to the people recording the videos if they want to do that
I'm fine with either. Just really want a final match to happen~
Has somebody volunteered to organize the pairings for each round?
I believe Andante said he would do it. I'll PM him after this weekend, we're still accepting entrees as we speak.
With that said, there's seems to be enough people so far. However, if we're looking for more we would want 8 more people so that way the brackets can even out especially for the latter half
Submitted.
And finally submitted
Goodness I'm so nervous...
you and i both reks
My team's been submitted for awhile. I'm also really nervous, but also really excited for the new season to see what everyone's come up with to win it all.
ahhhhh
Ohhhh no I'm about to miss out on my favorite AI tournament!
Did any rules for team building change? Any JP restrictions and limits for equip and abilities? I want to know the conditions so I can make a team on time.
skiploom - nothing's changed in terms of teambuilding! Just take a look at the master guide and start teambuilding!
Submitted.
Wheee~!

Thanks for the info CT5Holy.
All righty then, to MS Excel!!!!
Skiploom and Jumza, awesome!
Submitted.
I should have a team in at the very last minute possible.

Submitted... Good luck to all!
I'm rather nervous. I didn't actually get a chance to do any actual testing on my team versus other teams. I spent a few days constantly making changes on paper but never actually tested it in battle. Maybe not the best idea.
Team is submitted!! So nervous and good luck to everyone!!
With 29 entrees already we just need 3 more to have a full 32 player bracket!
C'mon people we just need a couple more people and we're good!!
I'm still mulling over Blackmail/Mimic Daravon vs quickening/gil toss/steal heart. Decisions, Decisions.
16 matches per round, I'm excited to do all that recording!! Tons of practice on my Shoutcasting!
I am willing to be contestant #30. Did my PMs reach your inbox, Barren?
Since there's gonna be quite a lot of matches, I'm willing to volunteer to stream some of these if there is a need.
That would be nice.
Also is everyone okay with a discord discussion for tomorrow night so we can see who will cover what bracket?
Sure, what time?
Is 7pm EST good for everyone?
Won't work for me.
7CST is better
I can PM you guys the details if neither host/back up host can make it
My daughter doesnt have daycare tomorrow, so I might make 7 EST
If we can do this quickly I can get matches in on Friday
Once we see the brackets determined we can figure out who should assume responsibility of the bracket A, B, C and D since we want to divide it up
Dividing a Swiss system tournament kind of defeats the whole idea of easily sorting out the best teams without going through a full round-robin.
I understand the logistical concern but you're still going to have to wait for every bracket to finish a round before you can do another pairing and start another round. It doesn't help very much, if at all.
Definitely bring that point for the discussion for tomorrow if you can make it, if not then I will ask people on there the easiest way to conduct the brackets
And I'm entered! Been a bit since I've done an Arena battle, so I wholly expect to be thrashed.
Hi! I'm here since my Boyfriend asked me to join his tournament. I'm interested since I play FF7 and have seen him play Tactics before. Hopefully you guys don;t mind :)
Perhaps the way to divide the Swiss portion is to have hosts take turns doing whole rounds? i.e gatebuster does all the R1 matches, then dw does all the R2 matches, etc.
Also I think I asked this before, but the format sounds like it's Swiss for X rounds, then teams with 8 best records advance to and face off in a single elimination bracket?
We could also apportion matches to each of the hosts at the beggining of each round, wait for the hosts to upload their videos, perform matchmaking for the next round, then repeat the process. This would lighten the burden on any one host, but add some delay between rounds as we wait for every host to finish his or her matches.
In addition, do we have a matchmaking algorithm prepared? We have more than 32 contestants, so we will need a method for efficiently and fairly pairing players with similar win/loss ratios.
I think challonge can do Swiss - if yes, then it should be able to automatically pair players by win-loss record, right? Or are there other factors to consider?
Oh, I did not know that Challonge has Swiss tournaments. I am having a look at it, and it seems we can even award points for each win of a match. Challonge should do nicely.
Double-post: I won't be able to make it to the evening discussion due to time-zone differences, but let me know if I can contribute in some way. I can do everything other than record matches.
If it can't I just need someone to randomize everyone and I can build the Swiss pairings. (Swiss doesn't use a Bracket at most TCG tournaments.)
Usually you randomize everyone. 1 plays 2, 3 plays 4 ect. For round 1
Winners of round 1 play Each other and losers face of. Match 1 and 2 winners play each other. (Yes it looks like a traditional bracket for the first two rounds. After that, you just pair the closest records. Which can be a bit hard, but it will make sense and everyone should be able to back check my work if I did it.)
I can't wait to see how my team does! I'm excited for how things will go.
Here's how things are looking with 36 participants.

Andante, do you have the bracket? If so perfect. Less work on me. :v/:
*walks in, reads the sign about the deadline, checks her watch*
Oh, god damnit...
Well. Good luck, everyone! :D
