Title: Enemy only generic Jobs
Post by: Zozma on February 09, 2009, 12:04:15 pm
Ill start with this list:

Sniper
Joker
Harlequin
Mime
Calculator
Rogue

The female sniper and portrait

below that
and im mainly working on the hat for the harlequin, but its taking time. looks like crap right now but i have the base done i guess. theres the male hat above it too..

this is not the color scheme they will have, this is simply the colors from the base sprite

Is.......is that a metal breastplate?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on February 09, 2009, 12:13:05 pm
that part is being worked on. I'm probably going to make it gold like the metal bells. im not even certain yet if i will use the time mage body as a base. i just used something to get the hat started

Ah it seems a bit off and I don't even have a valid suggestion except maybe work a bit off the dancers legs.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on February 09, 2009, 12:37:55 pm
the upper body is what im focusing on currently i doubt ill use the time mage legs
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on February 09, 2009, 12:43:23 pm
What is that on the snipers head anyway? A beret?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on February 09, 2009, 12:44:46 pm
yeah pretty much.
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on February 09, 2009, 01:45:03 pm
The harlequin hat is looking decent for a start. I like the basic design. Are you just looking for suggestions on sprite designs here mostly?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on February 09, 2009, 01:50:28 pm
well im showing what i have currently, and suggestions are good to have as well. both male and female are in initial stages. i know i want to attempt giving the male hat 2 or 3 different colors and not make it one solid like it is now
Title:
Post by: Archael on February 09, 2009, 01:54:12 pm
Sick

both of them

sick

I don't see anything that could use improving lol

except maybe fix female harlequin's chest area.. it looks a little too solid /fixed for cloth / robe
Title:
Post by: Zozma on February 09, 2009, 02:26:17 pm
Arch i might do Steel Boobs like the CC harle looks. but i havent decided yet
Title:
Post by: Archael on February 09, 2009, 02:34:15 pm
I think steel boobs are OK

but not the white plate + white shirt that she has currently

that could look a lot better if it was another color (like the gold you suggested)

Post by: Zozma on February 09, 2009, 03:28:36 pm
I agree, i think gold cones will be the way to go
Title:

Title:
Post by: Zozma on February 09, 2009, 05:19:51 pm
opinion on the pants... should i try something else for pants?
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on February 09, 2009, 05:29:17 pm
I think think the pants are great. They are baggy and clown looking.
Title:
Post by: Llednar on February 09, 2009, 05:32:34 pm
*looks at his own pants*, yeah they suit them perfectly!

<dunce|XD
Title:
Post by: boomkick on February 09, 2009, 06:16:02 pm
Are they both female?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on February 09, 2009, 06:49:19 pm
no there are male and female versions of both, but the male sprites are not completed as of yet
Title:
Post by: tithin on February 09, 2009, 07:45:27 pm
How come they're enemy only? Would they be invitable?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on February 09, 2009, 07:47:17 pm
They are enemy only because:

A) theres no more room on the job wheel for them

B) their skills are too broken for the player to have access to.

C) There are no more menu slots available.
Title:
Post by: tithin on February 09, 2009, 07:48:52 pm
Would they be invitable? Personally that jester looks far too amusing to be enemy only.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on February 09, 2009, 07:52:15 pm
because i have no menu slots I wouldnt be able to allow them to be invited.

Now i could remove Tamara from the lineup of special units that are invitable. Normally no humans are invitable at all because all enemy humans will be given lvl8 in every job to increase game difficulty. Tamara is pretty much the only character with no storyline whatsoever. but id have to get a good amount of votes one way or the other, and then it would either be the Harlequin or the Jester that are recruitable not either or. and the snipers would be out of the question, their skills are way to cheap to allow the player to have. (watch out for them haha...)
Title:
Post by: Xifanie on February 09, 2009, 10:05:02 pm
I definitely want the harlequin to have CC Harle as a base.

The sniper looks awesome, I just never was into glue stickied hats.
The gloves look a bit fluffy/voluminous to manipulate guns though.

haha, well thx for the feedback Zod, still... if u want less fluffy gloves good luck to you i dont think i have it in me to do more custom arms at the moment.

allright then, I'm on the right track. this shouldnt be too hard to make.
Title:
Post by: dwib on February 10, 2009, 07:04:06 pm
i miss the stripes on the pants... they added a lot to the harlequin feel
Title:
Post by: Zozma on February 10, 2009, 08:21:48 pm
u know, you're right... tho they are default time mage, they do look better too. well that will save me some trouble
Title:
Post by: tithin on February 10, 2009, 08:42:38 pm
I agree with dwib.
Title:
Post by: Xifanie on February 10, 2009, 09:47:35 pm
I prefer this version for the pants. :O
Title:
Post by: Zozma on February 10, 2009, 09:52:05 pm
hehe, now if only one of those brilliant portrait makers was around....
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on February 11, 2009, 01:40:13 am
I have to agree with Zodiac's suggestion for the pants. You don't want to make the sprite too busy so the plain pants kind of balances things out.

so anyway, about their skillsets...

Job: Sniper

Equip: Gun
Innate: Maintinance
Innate: Concentrate

Skillset: Snipe

Sidewinder = Poison OR Doom
Heartbreaker = Charm [Ignore gender]
Stun Shot = Stop
Assassination = Dead
Gravity Well = [ Like shooting "Demi" at the target]
Blast = Physical damage, perhaps with formula 2D, range of weapon. Blue magic for Mustadeo. only a few of the snipers will have this one.

They are basically like long range Assassins, their skills do have success rates, the first two skills have extremely high success rates. Assassination has the lowest success rate which actually balances out the way their AI chooses to use skills.

I added "rogue" to the list of enemy only jobs, they have no specific skillset, instead i will be making them have a random primary in addition to a secondary. with this of course is the risk of them having no skills at all, or 2 really good sets.
Title:

small proposed edit for mime as an Enemy-Only job, give them innate Counter Magic and Counter, and increase the number of abilities that trigger counter magic (idealy, it would trigger on any offensive skill use, forcing one to use physical attacks, which would be countered with counter, so only basic attacks from guns/bows/crossbows would really work, however, that would probably nescitate removing Counter Magic from player use, so feel free to tone this idea down to your preferences)

I love engineers in vanilla, and this seems like a more expounded version of engineering, so it looks really good to me.

and they are flashy too. actually having effect files.

the countering ideas are nice, i will probably add in a few more things that can be counter magic'd. being long range units their defenses WOULD be deliberately low, however since they are enemy only that is not necessary
Title:
Post by: tithin on February 12, 2009, 11:09:02 pm
I'm not sure about the counternig, it's a decent idea, but at the same time, it could make them (mimes) ridiculously overpowered. If your only true counter to that unit is ranged only, that makes things difficult for melee heavy groups.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on February 12, 2009, 11:52:15 pm
hmm perhaps a different form of counter, afterall one counter will always take priority over another. My intention is to make the enemies have some "broken" characters
Title:

here is a screenshot of the "white chocobo" rare encounter

rare encounters don't have enormous hp growths just because they have ??? status but there are a few benefits to running into some of them... like this one could cast "white wind" if backed into a corner, learnable by blue mages
Title:
Post by: SilvasRuin on April 09, 2009, 04:19:21 am
If you don't mind my input for it, I think you should change the pallet of the white chocobo a bit.  It looks like it was just sapped of all color and turned gray from it.  Keeping the feet brown could potentially help a bit.  In my experience (watching and seeing, not making anything), white in such things looks better when shaded with a not quite white color, one I favor being a pale blue.  Of course giving the feather tips another color would help break the color drain effect too, such as in these examples:  http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.co ... choccy.jpg (http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/05/whitechoccy.jpg) , http://www.eternal-legend.com/ffxii/hun ... ckster.jpg (http://www.eternal-legend.com/ffxii/hunts/shots/trickster.jpg)

I think the first example actually does both.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on April 09, 2009, 04:31:44 am
yeah, that has occured to me, it will be a slight tint and most likely as you said a pale blue. but for time being it works for a placeholder
Title:
Post by: SilvasRuin on April 09, 2009, 04:42:01 am
Heh, please submit it when you've got it finished up.  I've considered using white chocobos myself, and I'm sure we aren't the only two.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on April 09, 2009, 04:43:15 am
holy choco, forest choco, river choco

then

dark dragon, gil dragon
Title:
Post by: SilvasRuin on April 09, 2009, 04:46:41 am
Do you intend on yanking the dark dragon from WOTL or making one through a color edit?  I would like to hear what tricks you intend for the other chocobos have up their sleeves, but I'm sure you don't want to give away everything.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on April 09, 2009, 04:53:57 am
every lvl4 monster will be quite deadly. tho they dont have too much higher hp gain than any other monster with good hp growth, their mp growth is so high that youll probably never see them run out of it once they are on a decent level.

most of them will either non charge spells or short charge them.

as for the dark dragon, ill be doing a palette myself, alltho it may not be too far off from the one they had in the psp.. also holy dragons will be around as well for an enemy only job. Reis is unavailable, but when you fight her youll probably have to deal with some holy dragons as well
Title:
Post by: Skip Sandwich on April 09, 2009, 08:08:23 am
are those 5 monsters you listed the only 'tier 4' monsters you have plans for, or just the ones you're currently working on? How complete are they at this point?

also, that Reis + Holy Dragon battle sounds really epic

Gil Dragon...? Now that sounds like my kind of Dragon! Also quite creative in regards to it, hehe.

I shall catch a gil dragon and name it buttercup.

Come here little buttercup, take the cheese you know you want it.

Post by: Zozma on April 09, 2009, 06:48:45 pm
im attempting to make a tier 4 for every monster type, i might leave out pigs if i get a humanoid moogle. but you cant recruit them of course. still
they will be rare encounters spread over ivalice.

Gil dragon, hah, yeah if i use "shine lover" effect file for his gil breath it will look like hes vacuuming the money out of you, but thats probably the closest effect i can get for gold breath.

Just wondering, overall do you think your patch is going to be harder then 1.3? I'm just trying to get a sense of how difficult is going to be.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on April 10, 2009, 01:07:21 am
it depends. i definately want it to be very hard, but with testing ill also update it to fix points where it will be too easy.
Title:
Post by: Smitson on April 11, 2009, 02:12:13 pm
Are you going to be adding more one on one battles  :D ?
Title:
Post by: Cheetah on April 11, 2009, 02:26:13 pm
I love the white chocobo idea Zozma. Like it was said though the palette is a bit of. Take a look at the chocobo palette reworks that have already been done in the spriting section. I think Vanya did them.
Title:

this better?
Title:
Post by: SilvasRuin on April 20, 2009, 10:20:27 pm
Yes, I like it.  Could you get a daytime shot if it isn't too much trouble?  I'd like to see how the lighting affects that palette.

I love the portrait.  That's as perfect as one could likely get for a white chocobo.

Have i not mentioned the setup of the Rogue job anywhere yet...?

They will have pretty decent levels in both Physical and Magical attacks (despite using the bersekrer sprite which makes them look mostly physical)

They also do not have any specific skillset, so they will appear either with 2 random skillsets (if possible) or various set ones to compliment eachother.

Their equips? pretty much anything, altho in some occasions they will have set items or types to ensure a specific setup.

I might also add to their description the ability to equip R/S/M abilities in any of the 3 slots. (this should make some pretty evil combinations of support/reaction and movements. Imagine Move+3, Jump+3 or Half Mp + Short Charge/Non Charge, having 3 different counters etc.)
Title:
Post by: Smitson on May 19, 2009, 05:55:12 pm
Lol Move 3, 2 & 1. That would go for some sick movement. Abandon X3. Half MP + Swiftness X2. Counter X3. Woo that's a sick idea Zozma. I love it!
Title:
Post by: Zozma on May 19, 2009, 07:58:59 pm
and because they have no equipment restrictions they dont have to waste any of the slots on things like "equip armor" "equip shield" etc..

do they have any drawbacks? yes, they are always on the enemy side only mwahaha.

On some occasions, you may be able to learn certain blue magics from them as well.
