How do I change what abilities do FFT Patcher?

I want to make the equip crossbows ability into a new ability that allows you to equip crossbows, bows, and guns... how do i do this?

That would be done with ASM Hacking.  I say you should ask Zodiac or someone for help with that.
It'll be a good long time until someone flushes another guitar string.

if by "notepad' you mean "a hex editor", then yes.
