Thank you Philsov and Zodiac. Just one quick question though: can I also do this not only for quicksave edits but for the actual game text? What I mean is is it possible to change the text in the game permanently? Many thanks again :)

Help! / Please help with Event Compiler!
December 10, 2009, 01:07:38 pm
Hmmm, I am sure people have already had this same problem, but I cant find an answer on here anywhere....

Situation: I extracted TEST.EVT no problem, decompiled it with no hassle, changed some text around in the PSXevent.txt and renamed that very same document to only event.txt. Then when I tried to compile it with the Event Compiler, first I got some weird error message, but the program opened up nevertheless. Then I clicked compile and it seemed to be working its magic. Then after like 5 minutes or something a box poped up saying another message of error. What am I doing wrong here? Also, it says in the instructions that copy and pasting is involved in the process...but I never copy or pasted anything...someone please help! Much appreciation!

@Smash - Wow! Thank you, this will save me tons of time manually ripping the maps! Also, only 1 Brush tool! Haha! For real man, you awesome! (No Photoshop ever though??)

@Cheetah - Thanks! This program looks like exactly what I will be needing! I am making an arena map with a friend and then hopefully when all goes well, a PvP arena online game of FFT. Most likely going to be a flat map to begin with though...meaning no terrain tactics...*sigh*

@Zodiac - Amazing! Nice editing program!

I wonder if though Photoshop is good to use too...anyway, before I discovered FFHacktics, I used to make screen shots with espsxe emu of maps and sorta rip them very slowly and then reconstruct them in Photoshop. For example, I would take 5 shots of Mandalia Plains, 1 for each corner and one more screen shot when all the units move to different places, just so I could edit it quicker in Photoshop. Do this 8 times (rotate x4 and also the zoom out x4) and then you have a map. This is unbelievably easy to do and I was wondering if I could post maps somewhere on this site? Also, is it possible yet with the tools that are currently available to import custom maps into the game? So far I havent seen any maps on here...and doing unit icons is still pretty tough for me...

Wow, its a shame that I never saw this stuff before, because you are a really good spriter. Really! Smash, do you use Photoshop? I am also a spriter (not really on your level though, but I am getting there) and I was wondering what program you use to do all these with. Nice job on the wyvern and bangaa, and the humans of course too! Also, I always felt that FFT was sorta missing some of the best bosses that you see in almost every one of the older FF games, namely the Lich, Marilith, the Kraken and Tiamat (though technically Tiamat is in the game as a powerful Wyvern and Lich is a summon) and also Omega and Shinryu. I think I will make sprites of those. Once I do, could you judge them for me? Awesome work and keep it up :)

Firstly, did someone maybe already make a Mog/Moogle sprite yet? And what about this one? Can someone please (if it already exists) show me a Moogle and especially a portrait? Thanks![/img]

Yes yes, I think he means he got some other unit to appear. Okay people, I am gonna make real soon a tutorial how to replace a unit 100%, that means in the menus too. Right now you can only get your custom to appear in battle, and the rest should be weird. Well at least according to this guide.

Try this:
UMD Dumper.
http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/21
You need to dump the game to a large memory stick. Then transfer the ISO image to your harddrive via USB connection.
If that dont work, try another off of that site...

I believe that you have to first do everything in FFTacText before FFTPatcher...not 100% sure on that though, but my results come out better when I do it in that order.

Help! / Is the FFTEVGRP incomplete?
December 04, 2009, 02:35:13 pm
Hmmm, some of you might have already read my 15 steps to make a unique character by now. Now I have finally figured out a very easy way of making your unique unit appear also on the Unit and Battle Formation screens, including their portrait. No offense to the others, but the old documents show like 15 + steps to doing this which is just crazy. Anyway, does anyone here know if the FFTEVGRP is incomplete when it comes to the UNIT.BIN side? I can't find any of the end bosses like Volmav, Kletian, Rofel or Izlude anywhere. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks! ; )

No one uses Photoshop? I use the CS2 one I got for all my spriting needs, works like magic haha. Give it a try if you can, it certainly beats Paint...

Once I figure this stuff out, I will definetly make a guide, just because I feel many people here have probably got this very problem. I found a way to alter sprites colors easily, if anyone is interested read this:

If you have Photoshop, open the .bmp of any sprite set and then go to the top and simply select Image>Adjustments>Replace Color and then mess around with the hue, saturation and lightness, and you can literally in seconds change colors of any existing unit in seconds. However, I bet there are a million ways of doing this on here already so....

Hmm, thank you Orlandu. I will try that again then. But someone should really make a new easier guide. I mean I dont really have to make the menu and battle formation screens have my custom icon because my imagination is good enough, but I feel like I am on crazy pills people! I want for some reason these screens to display my customs...I dont know why, maybe because of a completion feeling...my life is an empty shell...

Yeah, making your own custom sprite appear in battle is no problem. However, I must be doing something wrong:shock:...I can't figure out for the life of me the whole business of making this character appear in the formation menu and in the lineup before a battle. Also, to me the portrait doesn't really matter, but info on that would be helpful too. Thanks to everyone who reads this and posts his/her ideas on this. Please help :P

Also, is it possible that there might be a simpler way beside Cid III's way? Maybe something a little less complicated?

I think you should maybe please tell us just 2 things, so that we could help you easier: 1 what the name of the job is and 2 what ability skillset do you want. If you open up the FFTPatcher, you can always replace the generics found on Ch.1 Gariland Magic City under the ENTD tab, #188. You should see like Ramza, Delita and then Generic Squire Male x2, Generic Chemist Male, Generic Squire Female x2 and Generic Chemist Female. Replace the first 2 male squires with whatever you want and viola you will have your 2 special units without overwriting anything. But if you want to make this thourough, you need to tell us all the info...
