This is a mod I'm putting together using TLW as a base (TLW will be getting a update soon with a couple bug fixes as well).
When I was much younger, in 1998 or so, when I started playing Final Fantasy Tactics, we didn't have the type of internet we have today. If you were able to get online, and search info about a game, you would a lot of the times find rumors and ways to unlock 'secret' characters in many games. FFT was no exception to this. I remember reading many rumors about how to unlock Gafgarion, Elmdor, Zalbag, a Holy Archer class, another Worker type creature, and quite a bit more.
So since we have a bit of extra space and with a HUGE thanks to Xifanie's Event Instruction Upgrade Hack, I figured I'd finally put some of the old rumors into play. This is our attempt to add some more recruits into FFT using the existing Roster, without being completely lore breaking, or outside the realm of possibility (whatever that may be in a FF game). We will not be adding some characters like Olan or Balmafula, as they, lore wise, could not have been with Ramza at the final boss fight. Draclau and Zalmo are also out, due to their ties with the Church and that being such a big part of the plot of Ramza becoming a heretic.
After TLW and a lot of UWEntries work, we are able to add in 10 more units to be recruit-able. No, we have not added Roster space, but this mod aims to give YOU the option of who stays and who goes, by giving you a lot more options when it comes to unique classes. I mean Agrias is great and all, but are her and Meliadoul really needed once you get Orlandu?
In addition to this, we will also be adding a couple new battles, one of which is a new Lucavi battle to tie into the lore.
In the interest of making these uniques worth getting, I've done a bit of work on their skillsets. For example, while you fight Gafgarion, he would only have his vanilla skillset, but upon recruit, he would have access to all but the strongest of the Dark Knight moves from TLW. Likewise with Elmdor, since he would no longer be a vampire (don't worry, you'll get a undead vanilla unit with bloodsuck), he now has a primary skillset based on spirit abilities, and also joins as a level 8 samurai. These do not affect the vanilla battles at this point. There is lots more that will be done, but since this is a small patch, just for fun, there will not be any big ability or balance changes. This is primarily to expand your vanilla experience, as was TLW. Upon release, I may make the resources for this public as well, since they can just be copied into the TLW resources, but we shall see.
Anyway, enough droning on. Below are 3 of the completed event edits I've finished. Credits to Nyzer for scripting & V3rdeni for a lot of ideas, some EVTCHR work that you don't see in this video because I'm a scrub and didn't add it in yet, as well as some other sprite stuff that I have not finished making events for yet. Xifanie as well, for the event instruction upgrade hack, which allowed us to make choices and outcomes within the same event. So even with everything shown here, only 1 new event slot has been used, which was for Wiegraf.
- 1E4 & 1E5 Become Adeptness & Sturdy - RSM abilities for Dark Knight. Hack by Choto
- Ability Requirement Hack Lite - Used to setup Weapon Restrictions for Ashley Riot's abilities. Hack by ??? (This version by either Pride or Xifanie)
- Altima Teleport - Change Altima's assigned ability slots for her Teleport/Movement. Hack by Xifanie
- Barrage & Weapon Strike Rewrite - Attacks 4 times with Equipped Weapon. Hack by Choto
- Bravestory Fix - Fixes the way Bravestory events are run by the game when. Needed due to Setup event removal. Hack by Glain
- Bravestory Records Edits - Used to edit the Event IDs linked to the Bravestory Records. Hack by RavenOfRazgriz
- Event Instruction Upgrade Hack - Grants extra commands for use in more complicated events. Hack by Xifanie
- Extra Ability Effects Hack - Used to remap Altima's Teleport moves to Jump abilities which don't call effects normally. Allowing 4 extra ability slots, used for Dark Knight. Hack by Xifanie
- Extra Generic Class Hack - Used to create Dark Knight job as a generic from Bard/Dancer unused Gender data. Made by Choto
- Map 120 Edits - Used to allow us to display Inner Courtyard of Limberry Castle for Undead Algus Battle, by selecting Map 120 in Attack.out. Hack by Xifanie
- Rumors - Used to allow editing of Towns that Rumors appear in. Hack by Pride
- Unit Restrictions - Used to Restrict units in WotL Sidequests, in which the mandatory units are Guests. Hack by Xifanie

3. After completing 2, if you have Meliadoul, head to Dorter for the bonus battle against Kletian, and meet with/recruit Jerik.
4. Any time after completing 3a, if you have Worker 8, and have read the rumor (TBD) at (TBD), you can immediately go to Warjilis to view the Proto-Worker scene and have the Taurus stone stolen.
5. After completing 4, if you have Worker 8, head to Thieves Fort to meet Zero, battle Duma and recruit Proto-Worker.
THIS MEANS THAT:
1. You do not need Mustadio at any point to fully resolve the Beowulf and Reis quest line, including the new content. (You obviously need Beowulf and Reis to do anything after fighting Worker 7, though.) However, you DO need Mustadio to obtain Worker 8 and Cloud.
2. You can complete every sidequest that does not require unlock locations beyond Zarghidas Trade City before viewing the "flower scene". Cloud can be recruited as soon as that scene is viewed in addition to his normal requirements.
This means that the vanilla sidequests can in many cases actually be completed even earlier than they could be in War of the Lions, and that there's slightly less emphasis on Mustadio, meaning you do not need to maintain him as a party member if you're not interested in the sidequests he's directly involved in and don't want to use him otherwise.

Just kidding, this looks great. Always a fan of more stuff like this, especially when it involves new or expanded events, which I can't do myself. Wiegraf's always been my dude, and now he can chill in the party with his cuz' Beowulf. Love it!
As for the final character, might I suggest the ghost of Izlude? I was already including him in my TLW based hack, and he seems like a very strong candidate in that he wouldn't need much of a personality overhaul/story rewrite to be willing to join your party, considering he was less headstrong than Meliadoul and saw the corrupt power of the zodiac stones before he died. I have him join at the Poeskas lake ghost battle (where in vanilla, some undead warriors fight you for the zodiac stone so that they can go "to a higher dimension"). I have him join the fight on your side to protect what was once his stone from falling into their hands. As far as abilities, he has some of the knight blade skills, but has gained some undead powers as well, and uses some monster/undead attacks like Throw Spirit and Aqua Soul. Looks like you already have 2 undead characters, but maybe Izlude's class could also focus on him being a Shrine Knight & have some overlap with a Cleric type, or he could be something like a "Holy Undead," or "Spirit Cleric" class that focuses on white magic instead of dark. Just my 2 gil.

You could potentially make Aeris recruitable as a cleric, as that is sort of her natural role in FF7. There is a complete sprite for her in the sprites section of the main page and there would be no need for a new battle if she sticks around during the Cloud fight. It gives you another female special unit too, if the ratio of your extra recruits matters to you.

I had thought about Izlude, since he was going to end up being the Holy Archer, but while I was able to write out complete death for Elmdor and Wiegraf, Izlude is quite well dead and bloody. So we opted to create a New Shrine Knight using an unused concept from the FFT files.
I do fancy the idea of using Aerith as a joinable character. I'll see if I can come up with some dialogue to make that work. My only is with the Aerith thing is that in FFT, they never explain why she is there, and who she even is, as she is clearly not the same Aerith. However it's never really explained when it is that Cloud comes to Ivalice either. I like to think, in my head, that it's during the time that he is in the test tube in Nibelheim, but who knows. That would need to be explored a tad further before being added in.
I had considered Elidibs, and he's not completely off the table as of yet. However we did use his WLDFACE/UNIT entry for the Holy Archer, but we shall see.

Ive decided to go with Aerith. With that also came the idea of some short bonus scenes based on who is with you, since you cant have all units at once with this mod.
Sort of like the agrias birthday event, since they will all have some sort of reward.
Probably need to make some new Biography entries as well.

Another event just about finished. Got a few small bugs to work out, and probably need a second music track, but pretty much finished aside from that. After this scene, if you go to Thieves' Fort, you'll be able to fight the Lucavi, Duma. After which, you can recruit Proto-Worker if you so choose.

Love it! I was including Duma in my mod as well (assuming he's the big bull thing in the red diaper), but I'm not much of an eventer, so he was just kinda slapped into a battle without a proper introduction. Guess I'll wait for this to come out to finish mine.

I added a couple images to the OP for better keeping up on my progress. The above chart is for tracking who's "Join Up" events are finished, the chart under that is for tracking additional optional scenes that can be unlocked based on who is in your party. Some are just scenes, and a few will be battles, but all will give some sort of reward.

Aliste joining is finished, Nyzer may or may not have some fixes now that it's in game, but that's easy stuff. Next will be the Cloud v. Sephiroth battle, then the Duma battle.
Added this to the OP, updated the images and added another spoiler with the sidequest layout from TLW, with WIP edits to fill in the new sidesuqests. Anything in RED, is new.

That is *much* better Nyzer, looks great. You fixed the main three problems of the first version IMO, which were the battle not ending first (and thus the battle music going on through the whole thing), the camera movement (accounting for being in battle and moving back and forth), and the length, which, while the dialogue is well-written, simply dragged on too long. Good job!

I didn't want to ask so as not to spoil the surprise, but I must know. Will Zalbag and Miluda (BUT ESPECIALLY ZALBAG) be revivable? or will they definitely be undead?
Perhaps an optional rumor quest that allows them to be revived, and if one chooses not to, the option to hold them as undead, as is possible with Reis with his dragon body.
It is a bit strange the idea of Ramza and Wiegraf not preferring a dignified death for their relatives, I mean, since they will be sucking blood like demons.

They would be undead. Due to limits in new skills as it is, and most NPCs original skillsets being pretty bare aside from a couple moves

I'm just now seeing this, and I'm highly intrigued by sparing characters who are useful and have them join, or let them go.
Heck, you could rewrite everything and change history depending on the routes taken.. choice like sparing Wiegraf sister. Then tetra would be saved after fighting wiegraf, because due to sparing her.. she would make sure tetra is left behind for example..
However I get stuff like this really takes time to create/edit. But guess that's a idea.
But however, loving this after seeing some videos. Keep it up!

Ban me then for asking simple questions. I didnt break any rules. I didn't say anything hostile. I didn't belittle or put down your quality of work. Well, my humble opinion is that, how Sword Spirit is just another name to Draw Out, of the original Sword Spirit not work, it'll be replaced by Draw Out, using the older name. Correct me if I'm wrong.

A lot of Elmdor's ability can be attributed to Lucavi influence. His skillset has been adjusted to make it less mediocre since most enemies like him only have a couple abilities.

HI GUYS!
It's been a while since I posted here! With the final releases of TLW and TLWotL now out for everyone to enjoy (barring maybe a upcoming visual only bug fix or two for the latter), it's time to finally start work back on Jot5 and Recruits again.
We've made a few changes and additions. Initially this was just to add some new joining members, but we also decided we would like to expand the story a bit, and also fill out the remaining RDV from TLW as well as include some Mercenary sidequests if youve recruited Gafgarion.
I will post the Merc missions later today when I have some time, but for now, here is a visual of both, the entire joining squad (yes, Rafa and Malak are no longer joining), as well as the general event flow for the game. Enjoy
Thanks man, this is something I've wanted to do for a long time now. Nice to be able to expand on vanilla without having to worry about staying vanilla, as I did with the standard TLW

I argued (of course) with someone recently that Ramza seems to shrug off the events of Zeakden pretty fast, these extra events are exactly what are missing. Granted it was a year between those events and Chapter 2, but nonetheless this is it. Looking forward to playing this.

The goal is to actually create a chapter 1.5. The mod starts at the academy as Ch1 is no longer a flashback.

From what I've seen you're adhering to the short & sweet story beats (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_(filmmaking)) that made FFT and Vagrant Story stand far above Tactics Ogre. You and your team should consider making a game with Godot engine or something, you really have something there.

While the prospect of making a game in another engine is something Ive considered, i feel the same way about doing so with FFT as i do when people tell me to do so with RE. There are plenty of clones, but none of them give that same feeling of the real thing. Its hard to want to create on something else when we have such a great template to work from here.
Plus, someones gotta utilize some of the 200+ event slots that were made avaliable with TLW as a base patch lol

That would not make the story deviate too much i think. Like tactic ogre, i do believe some character deserve a second chance, a different fate, as they not inherently evil...

All the characters have been decided already. Also I'm pretty sure you meant Meliadoul, Miluda is Weigraf's dead sister.
There issue wasn't the ability to do it technically, it was doing it in a way that makes sense, especially makes sense to me, if i don't agree with it and don't enjoy making it, then I won't make it, so I'd rather keep things as they are already. You can see the full character wheel a few posts above.

The roster space in TLW is already as big as it's ever going to be, unless Glain expands the Bench hack.
The roster itself was already increased to 20 for TLW, as well as including the bench hack which gives room for 10 more units.
There are 26 unit.bin slots for the game to have unique sprites in the roster screen, plus monsters and generics. Minus 2 for the additional Ramzas, thats 24 unique units that can potentially have in Recruits, with 6 additional slots. I doubt youll ever have more than that.

I'm quite sad to see this as this mod in particular was something I was greatly looking forward to and was excited to see everything you had done. I hope you can get the rest you need and I sincerely hope you find inspiration to continue this mod.
I wish there was something more that I could do to help than simply offer words of encouragement and comfort, but I understand the feeling of not feeling part of a community anymore. I used to be pretty prominent on FF6 hacking scene (mostly as a sprite artist) but eventually I just didn't feel that pull anymore. Sometimes I'll go back and do more, I even created a 16bit artwork for my Dungeons and Dragons group's anniversary in a style of a FF6 battle against enemies I sprited with our characters in the PC style.
All of that is just to say, I totally get it, but I hope that you do return and continue the mod when you feel inspired and ready to continue tackling it. I know it is a tremendous amount of work and effort, and I have loved every update you have shown us and will continue to look forward to your inspiring work!

To be fair not all FFT fans speak english and a LOT of translators are pretty bad.
I also can't blame them for being excited. To be honest as someone who's played through 1.3, your wotl mods, and celdias mod, this mod right here absolutely has me the most excited.
It feels the most tied to vanilla, and I like your dialogue.
This mod is definitely the main reason why I've been refreshing this site for the last while :D

I will be working on recruits again, as I cannot work on Jot5 in it's current state without reconciliation. This project wasn't something difficult, was mostly easy and outside of the mercenary stuff, which was already in progress when I stopped, a good bulk of the work was already done.
