i'm having a blast with this mod, im about 120 missions in. the changes to the gameplay keep things really fresh and the added challenge is appreciated, if a little bit wonky in some cases

for example, im at a point where most characters have 250-350 health and sometimes i will come across fights with similarly leveled enemy casters like scholars or illusionists and their spells will hit for around 200 damage, or black mages with insane scaling on the damage

the first fight vs ilua turn 1 walks forward a few steps and brings the entire party down into like double digits

i want to say i run into this about....30-40% of the time in fights against casters

the only other issue is accuracy, something is definitely wacky with it. it is not uncommon at all to miss 3-4 times in a row at above 80% chance to hit (personal longest streak i saw like this was 7 times), even "99%" will still miss a few times in a fight

despite all this the mod is still very fun and engaging, and some of the changes really cut out a lot of the really lame overpowered cheese you could do which i only see as a good thing

Completed Mods / Re: War of the Lions Tweak v2.52
September 20, 2023, 02:56:20 pm
I don't post here very often, and I'm the type of person who prefers mods that drastically change balance, or introduce cool new sprites to amuse my goblin brain, and certainly never war of the of the lions version...but this mod is something else.

I'm coming up on chapter 3 and I've been having a great time. I probably play through tactics twice a year or so and like to try a different mod each time, I've never felt like a -this is the definitive version- but this mod comes really really close for my picky ass. Balance is really on point from chapter 2 on, and earlier access to the jobs that you want to get to play is great.

More then anything else, holy guacamole the documentation for this mod is out of this world. So detailed and well organized and presented. The mod author must do something like this for a living because it just looks so...professional.

Do yourself a favor and check this mod out. And anyone looking to build mods in the future...seriously consider using this as your base. Amazing stuff.

Wondering if the quicken stuff has been revised now and is in the current patch? It sounds like you had plans to but not sure if that ever made it into whats available for download.

Looking for a mod to play and its between this and grim grimoire. This sounds a bit more like what I'm looking for but the quicken changes sound really off-putting to me personally. I've been playing a FFT patch that operates somewhat similarly where eeeeeeeeeeeeeverything can heal, and res, and it just makes things so very tedious and just not fun.

All the other changes in this sound fantastic though. Maybe a fork that removes quicken entirely to cater to both crowds? Regardless I admire and appreciate the work modders put into this stuff. So great this game can still be fresh in 2022

this mod sounds really awesome, I really love all of the new sprites. looking forward to trying this out this weekend

*edit - when trying to start it up actually, I'm able to get past ramzas first turn in orbonne, and then agrias turn comes up and the game freezes up. ive tried with duckstation and epsxe, different graphic settings, and roms from 2 different sites. unpatched works as expected

this is after applying: TLW Eurystheus mod V2.7 Beta Static Story Mode + QOL 1.11 :(

Early impressions so far heading into chap 1 final battle:

I love the low gil thing, I think it's awesome, pretty much perfect. Gil was never something you really had to worry about before, so actually being cognizant of it and not just being able to always buy the absolute best gear for everyone the second it becomes available is really awesome and a fantastic way to make the game more challenging in a way other then lawl moar dmg and 4k health

Random battles felt really off, maybe intentional. going into mandalia at level 3 or so and fighting dragons with 9? move, and range 3/4 abilities that were a guaranteed one shot, and human units with auto potion when youre still struggling to constantly deal 20 felt bad. the tonberries and the early game doggos having a ranged attack with what seems like a crazy high chance to just inflict death felt really rough too, especially so early on

Job progression in terms of jp you earn and cost of abilities feels good, i love the unique things i've seen on jobs so far different from vanilla, however the job unlocking does feel slow, i felt like i was stuck on squires and chemists for a while, which gameplay wise is a little boring, but i may just not be used to psx style progression vs psp

story battles have a really good balance of difficulty, not really much more to say here. nothing crazy OP, nothing too steamrolly

new sprites look good, havent run into any weird kind of bugs so far. looking forward to pushing it further. hoping as i get levels the random battles are a bit more manageable

Great, I will absolutely check it out today!

I have played through this mod 3 times now and recently started a 4th run to check out 2.3. I never really post here, but recently signed up for an account and just wanted to say thank you for all your amazing work. It's so awesome to be able to play this game in 2021 and still get a different experience.

I tend to try out mods that change up active abilities or sprites more to get a more "active differences" sense and feel like I'm playing a new experience, rather then stuff that's more under the hood, but this mod has always given me Ogre Battle One Vision vibes - which is to say to me, this is the "definitive" FFT experience.

If I had any feedback to offer, I would just say it would be cool to see more active abilities on jobs, for example dragoon is a sick job, but very boring to play as all you ever wind up doing is jumping, so the only improvements to the job are going to be jump potency. This leaves dragoon feeling like a boring job to play compared to something like samurai or monk. I think older FF games could be a great source of inspiration. Of course then you have to worry about muddying job identity, and I know there are other hack limits/constraints that I don't even understand, but just my 2 cents!

Truly, thank you for your work my friend!

Quote from: Ansehelm on February 20, 2021, 03:32:37 pmGreat question, and well timed.  After an unexpected months-long hiatus, I've gotten back to work, and a new update should be live within a day or so.  Overall I've made CH 1-mid 2 significantly easier, and have switched a lot of the hardest random battles such that it's still possible to roll them, but they only appear late in the game.

well damn dude thats awesome, i'm looking forward to checking it out. mods that go to such lengths to add stuff always amaze me. will be f5'ing this page eagerly :D

Long time lurker here, this mod sounded really awesome, wondering what the status is like - Are random battles still crazy? I know this is considered a work in progress still, how much of the game is playable?
