EDIT: Upgrade to SMF2 Completed

On February 11, at 8:00AM (GMT - 5 Central East)/ 10 hours after this post, I will backup the SMF database, put the forum on maintenance mode, and try the official conversion from SMF1 to SMF2.

If everything goes right, the process should be completed in 20min, else it could be a wasted hour from a failed conversion.

I have worked roughly 40 hours on the new layout and reconfiguring everything, and ran a successful conversion on my computer from a 5 days old backup. I'm positive everything will go fine, but in the event of something going wrong, I'll restore the old database and files.

If anyone complains about the new layout, I will personally murder them.

It might have been the wiser move from PhpBB3 to SMF2 in the first place. Everytime we had a forum transition, PhpBB2 > PhpBB3 > SMF1, a lot of people complained manly about the layout being simply not what they were used to. Whoever there are many ways we could benefit from the transition even if it could be a pain for me to update and a pain to some people's eyes. There were mod requests in the past which could not be fulfilled from the lack of SMF1 support.

Pros:

• Vast amount of mods/hacks available


• No more fear of SMF1 not being updated anymore


• More stability, optimized speed


• Still in development


• Enhanced security

Cons:

• I would have to rework layout and it definitely won't look identical to the old one


• Possibility that some mods aren't support in the new version, or loss of settings

In an attempt to increase productivity and awareness of patches' needs, we decided to create a new forum section that should be able to help immensely ongoing projects which proved to be worth working on, and show everyone how they can contribute to their favourite patches.

Please make sure that you respect the protocol in the sticky. We don't want anyone accepting work and simply never delivering anything and disappearing. It's hard to manage a project when you have no clue how things are progressing with everyone "helping" you. It's a nightmare. * This file will be affected by the game regardless of its contents. At ~49 seconds, the graphical part of the video will disappear to let the music play on the intro screen. At ~66 seconds, if the .STR file is not done reading, it will be forced to end causing a strong crash like noise. At ~69 seconds, the next video will be played. All other videos will play for the duration of their movie length even if it differs from the original one.

All videos seem to be using a 320x224 format. The game forces this format regardless of the STR file's format itself. 320x224 videos are positioned at the center of the screen, starting from the 9th row of pixels, leaving a 8 pixel black line at the top and bottom of the screen. However, importing a 320x240 video will still position the video at that location, and anything beyond 240 will appear on the top in a glitchy manner: constantly flashing black on what is originally the 8 last pixel rows of the video. Importing a 320x240 video over FFTST.STR will cause graphical glitches on the title screen.

STR files can be moved and resized without any problem, with cdprog.exe for example.

I propose this format (which I will make an excel sheet demonstration on how to compress the data too), and ultimately would lead to a table compressing utility for those without excel.
There are a few things I want to make different... This is not the final format. Those tables would be, of course, read-only. I'm just suggesting this as I thought it would be the best way to save space. And heck, we might even get to the point where we can compress vanilla routines.

The big idea is simply to have a standard format which you can just use by setting your parameters:
r1 = Table Address
r2 = Row
r3 = Parameter (column)
r4 = Returns Result
and then call the subroutine with a jal.

Starting from today, for a week I won't be able to access FFH since I don't have a portable computer.

We are moving to another server; namely Kivutar's. This will be a dedicated server in France. The main reason of this is to solve our security issues, but will also make the site faster.

I think whether only few people like Naruto or not I shouldn't disallow sprite, FFT work related to it just because I wanted to. I just let my anger for naruto drive me stupid, so now you're free to do whatever you will.

FFT originally uses its own font for MAPTITLE.BIN, so it's not really possible to edit individual Map titles so easily. Because Koko asked me about this for CoP I proposed to make the new MAPTITLE.BIN for his patch. I came up with a very close font to the original's, and make it very easily editable as it's simply text.

This topic is very important; it's the base of the patch. I wish to decide a lot of the storyline before actually getting to work; and getting everything double checked so that everyone tends to agree and that it matches the original storyline!

It's nice when you see your work has contributed to something and that people are thankful your for it. I started this community 4 years ago, and while I may have been a big jerk back then I wanted the best for FFH, so I spent so much time learning everything from 0 because I did not know how to google well...

This is a hack idea I thought of... I would probably be able to do it myself, it would likely be quite tricky though, and I'm not sure I have the time/motivation. :/
I think it would be awesome for any patch and it would definitely be useful for tournament patches.

To do:

• Make Speed, PA and MA 4 times higher


• Make all stat based formula be reduced by 4 times at the end of calculation


• Increase maximum Speed to 99


• Modify Spells Clocktics, Status Clocktics and Player CT to 2 bytes (0-65535 instead of 0-255)


• The Player's turn would resolve at 10000CT


• Quick would be set at 32768CT instead of 254CT (byte limit)


• Make the game read all Clocktics based skills/status bytes as set in FFTPatcher and multiply that value by 10


• Make speed or add an item stat that reduces spellcasting charge time????


• Modify or stop using all Exponential formulas (ex: PA*PA*Brave/100)

Basically it would end up with:

• Softer damage ouput


• Softer stat increase from items and reaction abilities


• Far higher reduction of 2 units getting at 100CT and the first player gets the turn just because of how the game works

We can easily do this because normally PA/MA/SP range from 6 to 20-something in humans... we can just cut the formulas and the monster stats to adjust. Not only that but the spells CT are normally very low as well; too low. Compare a 2CT spell to 3CT, sure it's 1 more, but the difference is an increase of 50%... that's a LOT. Plus Short charge will cut a 3CT spells to 1CT because it rounds down.

Here we go, winshmo finished new FFH's logo. It is composed of:
- Original drawing by winshmo
- Edited original Final Fantasy Tactics title
- Ivalician "Final Fantasy Hacktics" by me

other than that, I darkened the framer's borders so they are easier to see, added a black alpha channel png to progressively darken the logo if you resize the screen too small, and finally I implemented new art from our users instead of the old FFT credit images for the top right corner of the screen. Enjoy.

I tried to restore important topics deleted by Voldemort, but I accidentally fucked up the forum's index. That's what you get when messing directly with the database...
Basically I was clueless, so I proceeded to time warp. Sorry, if you posted within the last 10 hours, your posts are gone.

EDIT: Oh by the way, I banned Voldemort. I have yet to take a final decision for his case.

I think FFH needs an original logo of its own. I'm not saying the current one is bad, it's just lacks the "original artwork" part.

That said I can mess with photoshop easily, but I'm stuck anything related to drawing as I'm still not good enough at it. I know we have the talent here, that can truly represent what FFHacktics is.
The last thing I want to do is hire some unknown professional bastard that wouldn't be friendly, like what happened to tebian:
he paid twice ($220 total) and only got 2 determined size png exports
Worst of all is that it wasn't even original artwork, the guy actually took existing background to work on.

Things you will need:
- Hex editor
- TIM Utility  Updated link. - Celdia
- A BMP editor
- 128x128 TIM template
- 128x256 TIM template
- 256x256 TIM template


How to extract the effect graphics:
Open the file in your hex editor.
Now you need to determine the graphics image size. This can be pretty much only done by observation as I don't know where that parameter is stored.
In any case, larger effects tend to be 256x256 (0x10000 bytes) and smaller effects 128x256 (0x8000 bytes) and finally the smallest being 128x128 (0x4000 bytes). Else just observing the data pattern should be enough.
The graphics data is stored at the end of the file.
The palette data is stored 0x0404 bytes before the graphics.
For instance if your file is 0x20000 (131072) bytes long, it will likely be a 256x256 image, meaning:
0x10000 to 0x1FFFF is the graphics data
The palette is 0x0404 bytes before that, so it starts at:
0x10000 - 0x0404 = 0xFBFC
And since the palette data is 0x0200 bytes long...
Palette Data: 0xFBFC-0xFDFB

If you prefer there is a 0x204 bytes gap between the palette and graphics.

Now let us go with the appropriate TIM template file, the 256x256 one.
Copy/Paste the palette (0xFBFC-0xFDFB) at 0x0014-0x0213
Copy/Paste the graphics (0x10000-0x1FFFF) at 0x0220-0x101FF

Save, and now load this file in TIM Utility:


Convert to BMP and now edit the Effect image as you wish.


How to import the effect graphics:


Convert back your 8bit BMP to TIM and make sure you check the transparency if you want your effect to look like something.

Now you need to reverse to procedure...
Copy/Paste the palette (0x0014-0x0213) at 0xFBFC-0xFDFB
Copy/Paste the graphics (0x0220-0x101FF) at 0x10000-0x1FFFF

Save your Effect file and now import using CDMage/cdprog.

Don't forget all my Effect file offsets were only examples, the offsets you really need to remember are the ones in the TIM files:
0x0014 = palette
0x0220 = graphics
