Been lurking around for a while here, admiring all the great work that's been put into Mercenaries.

However, today I'm finally going to get off my behind and offer some kind of assistance towards the seeing this project to its end.

I'm inspired to do a FFT-style mock-up of the Male Gambler since I love how his face was done.  I'm going to start with that face and give him a proper body to go along with most of the job class pictures (since most of their face sprite are just the head portion of their full body character art anyway).

Granted, it's been a while since I drew anything (I'm counting around 3 years or so) so it might not look as good and I'd wish for it to be.  I'll get something up within a day or so for people to judge.  >.<

Hope I can contribute some to this wonderful project! ^_^

Haha! Production art of the classes is sadly lacking, it will be great to see what you come up with.

Yea, looking forward ^^
Sir LD, do you think that the art/character I posted in previous page has any chances to made it into Mercenaries? Haha ^^
Kindly upload the images to other image hosting sites. I can't view imageshack. Thanks.

I dunno what LD thinks, but maybe he could act as the sprite for one of the unnamed characters encountered on one of the sidequests. Oh and welcome to the team, Keith.

As promised, here's my attempt at a FFT-style mock-up for the Male Gambler.  It's also not a finished product anyway since I'm still planning to put some detail in the cards he's shuffling and other subtle little nuances like that.  The image is a little big so it's been placed under a spoiler tag for space purposes.

Tell me what you all think about it and what needs to be altered, fixed, completely changed up, etc.

Note that I'm not going to color it since I'm no good when it comes to things like that.  Anyone else is free to color it as they see fit or just wait until my girlfriend is finished up for the semester.  She's the graphic design major so she should be able to spruce it up for me if I ask nicely.

This is a totally sick drawing Keith, what do you do know that you aren't still drawing? If this project ever got to the point of redoing some of the intro vids this would be perfect for the job video where they show the full character art. I really look forward to some added detail and color! Think you will do the female gambler next?

College got in the way and I eventually stopped drawing altogether due to lack of inspiration and stress.  I also didn't choose to major in Art at all; I've always been interested in Business, believe it or not.  I finished my degree a couple of years back and just kept on working.  It's only really now that I felt like taking up the pencil again ever since my Art Major girlfriend has been suggesting I do.

Oh, and yeah, I'm definitely going to work on the Female Gambler next.  I'm just thinking of what tiny little nuances/throwbacks to past FF games I can hide in both models, just for kicks.  The in-game sprites won't show the details but I figure the character arts should have something like that in them.

Hell yeah, that'd be awesome. How long did it take you to draw the male Gambler, by the way?

This incarnation of the Male Gambler took me about 2 or so hours to do if you count me trying to come up with a design as close as possible to the sprite.  The actual initial sketching took about 10 something minutes with some added time here or there for added definition of features.  The planning is always the time-eater.

...a little over two hours and ten minutes?  You, sir, are impressive.

Well no, don't give me TOO much credit.  10 minutes is stretching things, really.  The face is always my biggest challenge (most of my planning and rough sketching time goes into the face, actually).

Oh, and the first draft of the Female Gambler will be up either tonight or tomorrow.  Depends on when I can get home and have the energy to scan it.  >.<

Haha. Yes, face is always the challenge part ^^
I'll be looking forward to the Female Gambler, Keith.

Wow. Another talented artist joins the fold. Amazing. I really love your male Gambler, that's wonderful man. He looks perfect IMO. I love Cheetah's idea of the intro to the new jobs ala FFT, that would be beautiful with art like this.

Excellent wok Keith! I can see that you have a pretty good grasp on Yoshida's style and with Winshmo are indeed a very welcome addition to our art team.
