Spriting / Alternative Aliste Sprite

He's for my Final Fantasy Tactics: EX(tended) patch.

I'm making some subtle modifications to his structure and some not-so-subtle modifications to his palette. I just wanted to give him the feel of being different from Beowulf and make the palette look less forced. Comments?

Edit: Hmmm... It occurs to me that some might dislike the fact that I removed the highlights from his hair.
My first response to myself was; "too bad, bitch! his skin tone doesn't match his hair gradient enough."
Now, after thinking about it for another 2 seconds, I think I could put the highlights back if I make him look more pale. It would fit the character too since he's supposed to be dying of some degenerative disease. Sound like a plan?

OK, I was looking at how the game blanks out stats and the status menu when a unit has ??? status and/or is an enemy.

I was thinking this could be manipulated to create a scholar-style scan ability.
It would make the game a little more challenging not to have info about your enemies right away I think.
If a hacker could isolate the routine that blanks out unit stats s/he could force all enemies to have their stats to be blanked without using the ??? flag.
Then a custom formula could be made that removes this blanked out state except when the unit has the ??? flag on thereby preventing bosses from being scanned.
I think there are unused flags in the ENTD entries that can be used for this effect.

Comments? Ideas?

PSX FFT Hacking / Separating Bard and Dancer...

I know it would require an ASM hack, but I'd like to know if this is plausible.
I figure it would be necessary to assign Bards a new sprite for females, and Dancers a new sprite for males.
I'm betting I'd need to find where the game assigns generic units their sprites and force it to treat Bard and Dancer like a normal jobs.
I'm also betting I'd have to change similar code in both world.bin and battle.bin.

The Lounge / Idea for a PC remake of Asteroids

I was thinking of making a series of PC clones of classic arcade games to market on my website for cheap.

The first one I've been thinking about is a clone of Asteroids.

I was thinking about how to recreate the basic game play of the original game and improving it.

Here's a list of my ideas so far:

1) Redesign the basic asteroids to take mass, speed, and kinetic energy into consideration. I want them to be more 'real' in the way they collide and impact each other. I also want the bigger ones to fly apart based on where the player blasts them and how intense the blast is.

2) New types of asteroids. I thought of one very diabolical one this morning.  A 'space junk' asteroid made up of a bunch of extra small objects; smaller than a small asteroid fragment. The catch with these little bastards is that they tend to blast apart real easy, but they also tend to clump together. They start as a big clump of debris moving in the same direction. One blast from your cannon will destroy 2 or 3 bits. However, they will immediately fly apart in all directions making them difficult to hit because of heir size. Then as they fly around they'll be programmed to attract towards each other and slowly clump together again.

3) I want the game to have a power up system that goes with the theme of space mining. whenever the player blasts an asteroid it will have a chance to yield some useful materials that can be used to build stuff between stage. By collecting the right amount and combination of materials the player will be able to build new weapons, upgrades, extra ships, and new types of ships.

4) Improved controls. The basic controls will be the same as Asteroids. I'd like to also implement both the warp and shield features as upgrades for specific ships. In addition, I'd like to include a retro-booster feature so that the player can slow down without having to turn around first.

How difficult do you guys think it would be to make a different job act like Squire as far as specials are concerned?

For example: Instead of a special job replacing Squire it would replace Dragon Knight.


Alternatively, how about if I wanted an additional job to be swapped out for special units?

For example: Generic units get Squire & Dragoon, but if unit has special job 1E (Holy Knight) then Dragoon is also changed into special job 1F (Temple Knight). Ideally, I'd want to make the job that replaces Dragoon dependent on which special job the unit starts with. Perhaps it could work by making a table to look up values on.

I presented the idea at the hack ideas thread in new projects, but I'l repeat for anyone that missed it.

A mini hack that changes the player's roster to include only the jobs from FF1 and Ramza. The player will be pitting the Light Warriors against the FFT battles to see who is stronger. None of the previous special units will be available at any time other than as guests during story battles that require them.

Now what I want feedback on is weather the light warriors should have custom spells, or just use the ones already available in FFT?

If I make custom spells it will take longer. If I use what's available, it'll make the light warriors a bit weaker.

Make your choice! ^_^

I'm an 80's kid so this is like beyond awesome!! It's like having new takes on all my favorite games from when I was a kid! ^_^

Cosmic Gate is like having a sequel to Galaga but with a better power-up system.

Robot Ninja Haggle Man is like a bad-ass cross between Super Mario Bros., Bubble Bobble, and Mega Man. Sweet!!

Rally King is like a sequel to R.C.ProAM. It has the same basic controls of 8-bit racers, but with drifting and power'ups!!

That's as far as I got this morning. I can't wait to play the other challenges and play the full games! ^_^

Same range and targeting as a song spell. (Hits all allies on the field.)
Same spell power as Cure.
Same CT as Bahamut.
Ignores mute status as you don't need to be able to talk in order to speak to your higher power.
Also, it isn't reflectable, or mathable, or mimicable.

This is basically a free casting of Cure that hits all of your party members, but takes a long time to cast. It is intended for emergency situations where a healer has run out of MP, but still needs to do some healing.

Old Project Ideas / An idea for my hack...

I was studying the Scions of Darkness (aka Espers/Lukavi) and I had an idea that I'd like opinions on.

I was thinking that since I'm going to be adding powerful rare monsters, the player may also get lucky and have help fighting them.

I was thinking of adding a guest unit in each of the rare monster battles that represents one of the scions of light. They'd be generic sprites with a special palette and a special secondary skill. They'd also be immune to invite and would be immortal of course. ^_^

What do you guys think?

Comment: this one is a disaster. I'm guessing that they thought that this one name out of all the names in the game followed the Japanese tradition of putting the last name first. Also It seems like the translators were thinking about the name Ludwig when they say it. After doing 2 minutes of research I found that Ludvich is a real European surname. Ludovichi is an Italian surname, but the "ch" in Italian is a hard 'c'. Still, it IS possible they were going for Italian here.

1 ) Most importantly you must have fun.
2 ) Obviously the entries have to have fit the theme.
3 ) Entries should be in PNG format.
4 ) Entry must be submitted in 1x & 2x size in one file for clear visibility.
5 ) The base sprite must be an official Square FFT(WotL) sprite, or a custom sprite from scratch in FFT style.
6 ) Entry must have at least forawrd-angled frame and one other, with additional frames optional.
7 ) No resubmitting of old sprites.
8 ) Judges can't participate, duh.
9 ) There is no limit to the number of entries that can be submitted.
A ) No vulgarity.

The Lounge / [Fangame] Megaman Powered Down

This is a reboot of a ROM hack I started about a year+ ago.
Anyone who frequents the Board 2 forums will know me as koala_knight.
Now in the form of a fan game, it is taking off quite quickly.
I'll be making weekly updates here and at TMMN forums.
Anyway, let's get to the meat and potatoes.

Project Overview:
This fan game is an enhanced 'demake' of "Megaman: Powered Up" for the PSP.
It is being made in 8-bit style with as strict as possible adherence to the graphical restrictions of the NES. I won't be paying any attention to the sprite per scan line limitations as Capcom themselves chose to ignore it.
It will include most, if not all, of the features from the PSP version in addition to several features from the recent Wii installments.

OMFG. At least McCain skirted around the questions he was asked. This chick didn't even answer the questions she was asked. She told the moderator out right that she wouldn't answer her questions. That's not a VP candidate! That's just a rude! How can anyone in their right mind think this woman can do the job of VP or maybe even President? She's a good speaker, but she just doesn't have anything to say that can convince a half-way intelligent person she or McCain are any different from Bush's administration.

And all of these patronizing republican politicians saying she said that they're different; please! We Americans are not so stupid as to fall for such an obvious ploy to raise independent votes. I mean am I the only one that Noticed that the McCain campaign stopped calling Obama *inexperienced* the moment that Sarah Palin was named VP candidate? Is that not the very definition of hypocrisy?

I'm using this formula a lot for my new Medic job, and I noticed something that hasn't been posted about it yet.

It seems to require that an inflicted status be set in order for it to heal. I tried to use it for some PS based healing with inflicted status set to '0' and it refused to work.

Can anyone confirm this is the case or add to this?
