Well, my brother's talked me into getting a PSP and there were some positively terrific sales on many things! As it stands I was able to get a copy of WoTL, now I never planned Mercenaries for a PSP release, but as I have it now I kind of think that is a bit unfair...  Though in any case, here's the questions all of the inexperienced ask. I am Tech-dead, I don't know how to mod a PSP disk, or a PSP or anything as such, if I could have some help with that it's a possibility that I could have a Mercenaries version on the PSP.

What do you need help with?

Ripping it, or patching it in general? I use WOTL. The only thing wrong with your idea for a PSP Mercenaries is that I don't think there's any files that let you edit message text for WOTL.

Oh there is, we found all that a long time ago, I know at least that much, but ripping it, I believe...

Ripping it is easy. Really easy. Do you have custom firmware? Probably, practically everyone here who has a PSP does.

None of this is possible without custom firmware. But basically you press select when on the home menu screen (Settings/Pics/Videos/etc.) It'll let you choose which form of USB connection you want. You have to choose 'UMD'. Then just hook it up, and it'll connect to your UMD. Just copy the file in there, it's the game.

And where IS sed PSP message editor? =\

Custom... firmware? I do apologize, but I have no idea what you're talking about with that.

CFW is a modded PSP.
If you google it, there's lots of info on how to do it and what it is. Without it you can't access your UMD, or play your patched UMD.

but seriously, where is this PSP message text editor?

You're referring to the event text, if I'm not mistaken?

Yeah. I have an idea for a PSP patch, with a whole new storyline.

So I kinda need the Event Text editor for PSP.  :?

Well we have that, it's the same tool we use to edit the PSX text, you should be able to find it in the Tools section.

Hmm, well I've looked and according to what I've seen it's of high risk to do this, downgrading a PSP really wouldn't be useful except for hacking as far as I can tell and with their going prices of 120+ I don't have the money (especially now that I don't have a job) to shell all that out, if I do something wrong, there's no easier way I presume?

The only real risk is if you don't know what you are doing. Unfortunately I can't really help you with downgrading the new PSP's since I downgraded mine before the use of a pandora's battery was needed.

When you check online regarding downgrading it sounds risky because of all the disclaimers that there is a chance you can brick your PSP, blah blah blah.

Know what firmware you have, know what model PSP you have, have the right tools you need and directions and there should be no problems.

As a psp master, I'll tell you.
you need a 4.01 m-33 or higher (if I'm not mistaken) PSP Fat works the best (believe me). you can download the ISO. I can upload a clean EU ISO if you want. Put it in the ISO folder. Enable no-UMD from the recovery menu (only for Fat, IIRC), play the ISO. The TacText lags. Fact. I mean the latest version. I hope I've been helpful

With a Pandora Battery+Magic Memory Stick, there's almost no risk of anything going wrong. And on the off chance that something does go wrong, they came up with the Pandora Battery to fix bricked PSPs, so there's no real reason to worry about that.

The thing to actually worry about is whether your PSP can be loaded up with custom firmware. That, and getting a Pandora Battery.

Do you have a original PSP or the Slim?

I think I have a slim, since it's not very bulky.

It should have a white sticker with a bar code and a serial number ending with the model number.
Mine says "PP132326993-PSP1001". That last part after the dash is the model.
The slim should have a "PSP200X" somewhere in there.

Hmm, mine says 1001 as well, so I guess it is a "phat"?

Yes! That's right. And if you have the original battery from Sony you can buy this little device for 25~30$ that lets you freely convert it to and from a pandora battery. It'll be cheaper than buying a pre-made pandora battery, no doubt.
