Final Fantasy Hacktics

As always I would like to start by saying thank you to everyone that entered the contest. While the turnout this time around wasn't quite as numerous as the last contest, there were certainly an interesting number of styles of chosen among the contestants. Now without further ado, let the voting begin! We'll be trying the new three-vote option for this contest, meaning you have up to three votes available to you. You may choose to use them all or just vote once or twice for your very favorites. Feel free to discuss or ask questions in this thread and for those of you just burning to critique the various entries now would be an appropriate time to do so.

Voting officially ends on Thursday night, July 11th, at 11:59pm EST! I will tally up the votes and announce the winner then! Here's a quick recap of the suggested judging criteria.

1) Creativity: There are obviously a lot of different style options when you can pick from any other game. This criteria would be more about how far and away from what has been done before a submission is.
2) Artistic Ability: The more like the chosen game style, the better. Of course visual quality of the entry is always important.
3) Personal Preference: When it all comes down to it you should pick what you like best!

Thanks guys! I'm interested in the sprite & avatar prizes aye. I'm hoping my character (Maven Musson) is an interesting character concept of a thief in Ivalice that would hold on as an icon for projects. I'll think the prize in the meantime.

Though as a thank you, I want to step it up and make a few more FE-style FFT characters in the near future. It's what I'm decent at at least (Of course I hope to learn more) and I think sharing talents and contributing work is what it's all about

Is there really? Is it available at a link? In that case, I'd like a portrait of a horse (a replacement for the ever-popular, ever-copyrighted chocobo). I may drool to death if there really is a bomb lord sprite already totally done, though.

Lirmont, I think Kage means he's giving you a WIP which is usually 1 -2 frames of a sprite, which as you can see in that post you linked has already been done :P

(I must resist the urge to ask for something absolutely ridiculous and near impossible from Lijj, because that would be mean)

I think I understand what's going on now. Contrary to how many prizes I'm walking away with, none of my entries actually won anything in the contest. :P Lijj offered a consolation portrait, and I definitely want that of the Bomb Lord concept. While I'm at it, congratulations to the actual winners!

Lirmont, you were pretty much spot on, only correction is that I wanted to do sprite concetps for first two places, but this is fine too :P

Rosary from the game Yggdra Union, which is what my entry was based off of.

I typed in yggdra union sprite rips and my contest entry popped up, yay internet!

Jumza, I have some of it done, girl has lots of colors and details and it's taking a while, heh. On a side note, it would probably go faster, but I got interested in the sprite style, and decided to download the game, enjoying it so far, heh.

Diethe, Lijj, Jumza, Lirmont, have any of you started to think of what kind of event you'd like to star in yet?

Kage: It is an incredible game, are you playing the PSP version? I don't know if it runs well on emulators but the graphics are improved by like x1000 and there are quite a few new and better things about it.

Elric: Not really :P, I'll probably leave most of it to Lirmont, Diethe and Lijj. (I may chime in eventually though)

I don't know if I can contribute anything worthwhile, but I did have an idea that goes like this (and maybe it can start the conversation)...

"Two Lucavi Walk Into a Bar..." (a.k.a Biggs and Wedge Walk Into a Bar)

Biggs and Wedge, both lucavi, are seen walking and talking, brazenly heading through the entrance up to the bar. (Maybe the people drinking there are those 4 people?)

Wedge: "But I don't think anything will really happen."

Biggs: "Yeah, it's not likely at all."

The Bartender (human) hesitates to do anything, being practically accosted by the two demons.

Biggs: "Pour us a drink!"

The Bartender, scared, slowly turns his back to them.

Biggs: "And don't even think about mixing it with holy water, punk."

The Bartender's intention caught, he ventures to ask what they're doing there. No dialogue, just motions from him. Poor guy doesn't even have a name.

Biggs: "'What are we doing here?' What are WE doing here!? Do you believe this guy, Wedge?"

Wedge: "Hey, human. You know what happened to our usual place?"

The Bartender shakes his head.

Wedge: "He doesn't know, Biggs. He's about as thoughtless as the guy who EXPLODED Cuchulainn!"

Biggs: "What an inconsiderate ass this guy is! That was our bartender's son, you freak!"

Wedge: "All he does now is drink and cry."

Biggs: "Won't pour so much as a damn shot."

The Bartender motions that it wasn't him who did it.

Biggs: "You didn't do it? Wedge, get a load of this guy!"

Wedge: "Hey, buddy. You practically helped that prick do it! We know all about those proposals you were always giving him. You practically funded a hate crime!"

Biggs: "That's real sick, man. Don't bartenders have any kind of brotherhood?"

Meanwhile, the 4 people who were already drinking there slowly start to move position to behind the two demons. One of them accidentally bumps something and makes a noise, drawing attention. The 4 quickly pretend nothing happened, like the game, "Stop and Go", where someone tries to catch you moving after turning their head around.

Wedge: "You hear that, Biggs? Am I going crazy? I want that beer right now, bartender!"

The 4 eventually make it within range, knocking the demons out with, wait for it, metal bars.

Haha i like where this is going. Though the bartenders movements wont work quite right without some custom EVTCHRs

I don't know if these are lined up correctly but this could be used for some of the bartenders movements, and the part where he talks without a speech bubble. The colors for the speech bubble are the same as the bartender.
Maybe someone could do the rest, such as him turning around, or shaking his head?

That could work Jumza, however, if we want the bartender to turn around, things would then become a bit more difficult. I had planned to use an actual sprite for this for just that reason.

You could still use the speech bubbles though, just cuz I like em so much. Just use the ones that are already in the game though, these are just a rip of those.

Finally got around to making the bomb lord portrait for Lirmont... for being about 2 months late I went ahead and went full body on this.

I did a bit more work on the flame hairs and finished the hands. I also desaturated some of the colors a bit.
Considering it done but I usually find something to update the next day, so tomorrow I might have a small update if I do find anything with renewed eyes.

My eyes are still suffering from glowy-star syndrome (in a good way), but I think this may well be a masterpiece.

Damn that's nice! It would even make a great boss sprite for Final Fantasy 6.
