I want to explain my situation if it is okay. I can't make the animations like I used to because it's been a busy couple of months lately (I'm studying abroad). Not only that, even if I tried all my tools/materials are scattered everywhere (Powerpoint I use is from someone else's laptop, Video conversion I can only do in school because there's Adobe Premiere in most of the computers, and if I want to upload it I can only do it at home because school internet is sooo slow. So in other words, home and school have to work together if I want to get even one video done. The stars are there, but not totally aligning...

Even though it's not your usual tools, I think you got better as a designer, the zirekile falls looked great! Well, it all looked and sounded great, got a few good laughs out of it too. Particularly awesome depiction of barren's team.

That tomahawk damage was disgusting, I call shenanigans! Could at least take me out to dinner or offer a cigarette before you fuck me like that XD

I can see some mistakes (such as moogle hurting undead *derp) but it's a bit hard to gather weather my team is inclined to do as intended. No douse, but oracle was busy on res duty, and the ninja appears to function alright, but spent too much time on his face to really tell. Cursed ring will probably go (the lowliest of noobs have better luck with ninjas and/or cursed ring than I ever did. Gonna try to work on that..) And we may just give the oracle white magic and remove it from the samurai. If they do nothing but attack, could actually be good. Tempted to give overwhelm, but I don't wanna throw games just because the opponent uses p-ev. Concentrate is good.

GG, vigilanti! Given how infrequently we face off, wish I could put up more of a fight. Well played, cowboy. Well played.

Berserk and zombie have always wrecked this team, but since nobody runs berserk, odds are I won't see a berserk team. Alas, don't act/charmed 0 times this season, already berserked 3 times and zombified twice! Random status protection and holy null ensured the steamroller never lost speed.

Great game, gaignun. Always hard to watch my team take a licking, but knowing how well your team is designed takes the sting out a bit. No shame in being beaten by a master. Best of luck in the next rounds!

Thanks for running matches, reks! Great commentary.

Sorry for the long game guys, you'll get that with mid damage lore against a team that can take it. Lore trips out Nappa's AI, so he is constantly in the area where he finds nameless song acceptable. I take the good with the bad on that one. Also didn't realize spin fist was smart targeting, probably would have helped though I'm trying not to overload vegeta's priorities. So far so good I suppose.

GG kashkabald! 40 fa and auto potion is the hard counter to your team, so the odds were really against you on this one. Hope you don't mind if I borrow your mime for a moment? Actually hoping a poorly built dark holy user targets nappa one day.. One day.


Equal parts excited and mortified to see your team next, but I'm sure it'll make for a great match regardless. Only one of us can walk away unscathed, so may the best team win!

Great job on the commentary, guys! Been a blast thus far, managed to catch all tourney matches to date!

Particularly great commentary from gatebuster, and a lucky ff6-7 soundtrack. Very enjoyable watch.

That was a real nail biter, Argy's team is a soft counter to mine. I have some lucky charms to thank for this victory.

Thanks for running matches, reks! The new maps look sick, favourite is the hospital, just a great mod. I'm liking the new thief abilities, roulette may turn out to be a little OP, but maybe not. How much wasted time do we have without the dark holy animation? Very cool spell, will enjoy that. I'll cobble together a couple testers if the official release isn't this week.

Atma bow is a little silly, luck up robe of lords squire seems optimal.. And it's still kind of "meh"

Great job wkw, you too reks! The maps look awesome, 009 citadel, can't see the picture. I like the bridge idea in 015 limberry, I think it will make the map more interesting overall. Zirekile falls has always been one of my favourite maps as it is, definitely a bottleneck, but a fair one. Really rewards you for investing into mobility, so I don't mind if it stays as is, but extending the bridge will certainly centralize the action. I suppose we don't want to just give the matches to the more mobile team, so this may offer more fair play. Keep up the good work guys!

I'm pretty cool with most proposed changes. Don't like the books being summoner only, books are a great versatile weapon, and encouraging summoners to use basic attacks kind of goes against their job. Surprised we went with samurai getting bows over spears, i still figure why not both, but i'm looking forward to some of the most interesting archer builds ever. I also propose we call "Sap" "Virus", though i'm not overly impressed by mp poison as a whole. just not strong enough imo, but maybe i'll be wrong.

You guys did an amazing job putting this together, Thank you so much! 1.4 will be our best yet.

Thanks guys for running matches! Been in hardcore lurk mode lately, feel a bit too behind to contribute to the balance discussion. I'm obsessed with the idea of someting that is classic and therefore timeless, so I find all the changes a bit overwhelming considering I like a lot of what's already implemented. That said, most of us at ffta need something new to keep things exciting and you can bet your ass I'll be actively making teams in 1.4. My backburner is full and I need to make teams again.

Dude, you handed my ass to me! It has been a thrill to see you growing in this community and I'm glad you stuck around long enough to get this good. I think you'll be a far stronger participant in future tournaments, so I'm looking forward to that.

After a while of not seeing any fftaction, I took a good look at the raven king and saw 4 flawed units. Why'd I put 4 awkward units together? I'm positive I can build a stronger team with two dancers and a samurai. Overhaul imminent.

Woo! Thanks heroebal for giving me a feature! I still lurk here and there to see if tourneys are going (or if i get a feature). Been really busy with stuff, but i'll try to participate more.

The chicks really got a makeover since i last saw them, looking pretty dangerous. The raven king is the only team i left feeling unfinished, there needs to be a super reliable unit in the mime's position...and it's a mime. used to be an item bot archer, i'm thinking item bot lancer or thief and they'll be fine.

GG mudvayne, i really need to step up my game ;)

kinda just caught this before bed, so i'll get around to the other ones tomorrow.

I swear, DW is the bane of my existence XD her teams all rock and pretty much always manage to kick my ass. What ultimately did me in was the speed disadvantage. More often than not it became a sandbag battle, and she could just get units back to their feet faster, not to mention not a single raise 2 went uninterrupted. How does that squire do so much damage? Crazy. Speaking of damage, think zero was better off with overwhelm. looks like i'm missing about 18 points of healing/damage, though that wouldn't have saved her. Still, gotta switch that back around, sorry!

GG DW! The only person with that kind of record against me is probably truelight, and maybe shintroy. Always look forward to seeing what you put together, this one is just DEADLY.

That's really awesome, gaigun. Thanks for putting the graph together, it literally illustrates your point perfectly. I urge people to at least give crossbows a shot (pun totally intended) they are actually really strong in conjunction with a shield. It's like having a gun you can customize to suit your units' specific needs. Swift plate gives you the speed, escutcheon gives crazy evade and the genji shield boosts pa.. what more do you need? (not to mention the equation is based solely on pa in case you're a slow unit) The way the AI behaves, they'll always target the unit with the lowest hp if in range, which more often than not is a mage, making the silencer particularly strong. Don't forget squires can equip crossbows too, so the equipment/ability combinations are endless.

The only reason you don't see me using them all the time is because i find archery/gunning a bit boring to watch, though they are an integral part of the game and it's more a matter of preference than a balance thing.

What a great match, really could have gone either way. You never cease to impress me, Andrew. I happen to be a fan of twins, most my teams involve a twin of some sort. Super hard to kill with all that sandbag potential and samurai as armored casters. As far as silentkaster's mime goes, perhaps he could benefit from move -1. The enemy tends to move towards you anyway, so you'll get whatever reraises you would have had anyway with a raise in there somewhere. You really just want him to get some good mimics before going down anyway, right? Fun team, great show.

V. Mudvayne: Really tough match up for mudvayne here. Zombie really isn't potent compared to magic that does good damage, and it is most effective on a heavily defensive unit that can't do decent damage otherwise. I understand using faith on the oracle is there to boost petrify, but it's a bad deal. Once she goes down, they'll go into sandbag mode and everything could fall apart from there. Still, a great team, just needs a tweak on that oracle specifically. I think a book would be nice on her. Great job silentkaster, really punished every mistake without letting up. Solid team.

V. Shintroy: Definitely a fan of vampire based teams. Favourite novel is bram stoker's Dracula and my favourite anime is hellsing (I know, just gore and gun porn, shut up it's beautiful) I would have made alucard a male undead mediator as well. Not so sure about stone gun though. I'm confused as to why silentkaster's didn't go for esuna round 2 on the summoner.. still probably shintroy's round, but that could be a problem in the future. I mean.. she has ONE job..

Great display of team design, silentkaster. Always a thrill to watch your teams in action.

I looked way back in the threads not too long ago to see where those discussions went and it pretty much ends at "what do think monsters should be like, and what should they bring to the game" (paraphrase) which was discussed among people who (mostly) don't play anymore and fft master. There was even discussion about giving monster full ability/equipment sets.

I was going to start a new thread on the topic then, but I didn't want to give the impression that was something actually being worked on in 1.40 and also I have no idea where that work is at or even what we're capable of doing.

So, I think it would be cool to discuss it here with people who play the game and are excited to talk about it.

Hey, if you guys prefer, I can open a new thread with open monster discussion and a pole to help feel out what people have in mind if it's more comfortable that way. I get it is a balance thread.
