Awesome. Those are looking great.
Interesting weapons. The claws will be really cooool.
Whoa, everything looks neat. Yeah, seeing these in action will be a treat. Are the menu icons for the claws complete as well?
Not one bit, if anyone would like to add new icons for weapons or armor, there is a lot of free room in the Item.bin for that, I should probably revive that topic...
Quote from: "mav"Whoa, everything looks neat. Yeah, seeing these in action will be a treat. Are the menu icons for the claws complete as well?
nope
here's a video showing claw hits at different speeds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1G5fY6zIBM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1G5fY6zIBM)
it's possible to improve the model with different greys so the palettes stand out more, but I'm not sure how that works fully
anyone is welcome to improve the colors of the model and/or create new icons for the 3 claw types
PS: adding grey to the white on the blade claws will make them look better in-game
Oh, nice video! Great way to display it Voldemort, great work!
Wow that was fast.
I'll watch it in school.
Okay. we'll try.
added some grey, removed the tips to fix the weapon model inversion
(http://i29.tinypic.com/2uj61k8.png)
Yeah. That would solve the problem.
Looks quite good.
Why not use the much better looking and shorter ones that Smash did?
I don't know
where are the ones Smash did?
Found on page 4 (http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1551&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=80) of the Monk Rehaul topic.
those look pretty good!
deffo use those if you want, LD
Problem is those don't follow the Axe, they were made to replace the Ninja Sword, which I really can't use, as the Ninja Sword is already replaced by the Bec De Corbins.
then maybe someone can edit them to fit the axe model
Wouldn't it just take some copy/pasting and 90 degree clockwise rotations?
I'd try it, but I'm not currently on my home comp.

that might work
It's better if the animation is like when using spears.
I am reviving this
I think I can make Smash's claws work in the axe slot
WORKING . . .
EDIT:
holy shit
making Smash's claw work on the axe slot is a pain in the ass
why can't we replace ninja swords again? :\
perhaps whatever Ninja Swords is being used for currently can be moved to Axes instead
Hmmm...can we see the model for the Bec De Corbins? I mean, in theory those could fit in the axe slot...
The Bec De Corbins look like...Those axe like weapons next to the bag (courtesy of Smash)
what job uses them? can they replace axes instead?
I doubt I did this right, but flipping 'em around and doing some pixel work appears to allow the Bec De Corbins to replace axes. Though I probably did this wrong, as I have no idea what I'm doing. Hah.
very nice!!
can you send me a WEP.BMP with that in? I'll add Smash's Claws
or you can do it if you want
8)
I tried, though I can't say I've ever done it before, so this might be a worthless image...
I believe this is fine
EDIT: did you text these becs in game?
Unfortunately I can't unless they're put into the new shishi format, which is just the weapons, not the weapon flashes and the unique battle effects.
wait, what? why would you not be able to test the becs? he just gave you a bmp which you can convert into SPR format and test, just like I tested claws, same method
does he need to send you a pic of just the upper half?
Wait! CD Mage! That test really must have drained a lot of my mind, heh... yes I can get to that, sorry about that, I wasn't feeling that great after the test yesterday.
Quote from: "mav"I tried, though I can't say I've ever done it before, so this might be a worthless image...
this works fine then right?
Well... yes and no, the Claws would be replacing the Ninja Swords, AKA the current Bec De Corbins, currently they're replacing Katana 2 Model (though the Katana models need to be turned into burlap sacks, if possible)
Yeah, I think I placed it on the wrong sprite--should I do it over, or should we hold off?
why can't they just replace Karana 2 model?
and burlap sacks can replace ninja swords?
they use the same animation basically.. just use mav's man
Because we don't know which Katana's go to Katana 2's. That would also mean that half of the "rummages" they'd pull up Claws, the reason to use Katana's are two fold.
One: Because they are linked to Relics and we don't have much of a choice on that...
Two: When they are pulled, they'll pull up a bag, obviously the game won't let me pull up a unique item type for each representation, so those are my options.
If you'd like to Mav, it's only the Claws in the wrong place, I would guess a simple swap and revertion wouldn't be too difficult.
you can find out which katana's use katana 2 by looking at their attack anims in-game..
Well, I put the claws where they were supposed to be--hopefully this image is right.
good job man.. hopefully LD can use this
I can't wait to see how those look in-game
They look really great. The other ones were massive, these definitely seem to fit well, but I guess it all comes down to the in game. I hope for the best!
Upon LD's request I'm posting some Sprites that replace the Dancer's cloth weapons with a playing card.
Edit: Try this one instead. It fits the allotted area better.
Edit 2: Seems the shading doesn't work that great with the animation style. Here's another...
Edit 3: This should be the final one! Please report any problems! ^_^
Edit 4: One last edit for palette continuity.
Alright, I'm posting this here just so people browsing will be able to find it with more ease. This sheet includes Vanya's cards, Smash's claws, the Bec de Corbins, and a few other items edited out.
http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/files/wep_201.bmp (http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/files/wep_201.bmp)
I was bored, so I tried to do Longinus spear from Disgaea1, is it good? It is my first attempt at doing such things.
It looks nice, but the question is whether it would fit or not.
Oh yes, Mav, I've come across a very odd problem... all of the new weapon type works, Except the Corbin De Bec, Corbin De Bec seems to only make glitched images appear, but everything else works fine, do you have any idea what might be causing that?
Hmm...maybe I need to edit it in GraphicsGale, to make sure it still confines to the other palettes or something. I haven't really worked with the weapon bitmap extensively though, so I'm likely wrong. But that doesn't explain why the others seem to work...It's using 9 colors, and looks like it's positioned right...I dunno, I'll have to see.
Would it be possible to post a couple screen shots?
That spear looks nice, Kage.

Thanks Jimmy, I realized that doing weapons graphics isn't THAT hard.

Oh don't worry about that Voldemort, I combined the two sheets a long time ago, aside from the Bec De Corbin's everything looks great.
Could you post the current sheet you're working with?
It might help to figure out what the problem is.
Yeah, I doubt I could figure it out, so maybe Vanya is the man to go to.
Sorry for the wait, yes this is the one that's mostly accurate (only thing missing and needs to be added is the Rapier weapon type that Saigas had made)
And the rifles I said I would make.
Just looking at it, I can't see why it would glitch.
Upon closer inspection it still seems fine.
I'll have to insert it and see what's up.
Could you take some screen shots of the glitched graphics please, LD?
BTW, what is that under the bec de corbin, a whip?
I think those are whips...by the way, do the whips work properly? Would the Becs glitch if they're too big or something?
Oddly enough my poor Whips (which I've made myself, and definitely would like redone) don't cause any problems. I'll take a few pictures though.

This is from the Bec De Corbin weapon type
Very strange...Perhaps this one will work: I edited the size and placement of all the Becs, but I don't know whether that would have done anything. I just hope it doesn't fuck up things worse...Keep the other image close by. But like I said earlier, I haven't really worked with this particular image much...maybe Vanya will have an answer.
LD, those look like arrow graphics are showing up in the attack instead of the intended ones.
Very strange.
Did you edit any values for weapon graphics?
Edit:
OK, aside from the fact that the bec de corbin graphics themselves need to be adjusted a bit and one frame is missing the blade & spike it worked just fine on my end.
BTW, LD, I think that the claws can be added in without sacrificing any sword graphics. You see, the knife graphics actually have a 5th slot where the ball and shuriken are located. I'm pretty sure that the ball and shuriken from the WEP1 file are never used either.
Also, I'll see what I can do about the whip graphics.
Quote from: "Vanya"OK, aside from the fact that the bec de corbin graphics themselves need to be adjusted a bit and one frame is missing the blade & spike it worked just fine on my end.
Which image did you use? The one I posted previously? If you can let me know where and how they need to be adjusted, I think I can get that taken care of.
By the way, see how each weapon has two or three "versions" (i.e. different looking graphics that are similar in size), should we also try to give one of the claws a different look than the other?
There are two different Ninja Swords, problem is we don't know what is linked to which but it shouldn't hurt, so sure a second claw souns good.
Alright, well I'm gonna try it (though I suck at this kind of stuff). I decided to just take Smash's claws and size 'em down to near knuckle length.
Smash's are the blue ones, mine are the gold ones. Criticisms and suggestions requested.
Yes, that seems more in style with another certain type of claw, I personally think they look good.
Oo, I definitely liking the gold. Neat ^^
The side view looks a little strange though, doesn't it? I'm not sure what's wrong, but I know something is...Thanks for the input though, guys.
Those are great Mav, very nice work.
The blades curve on the angled view and are simply straight diagonal on the side view. That is what seems wrong to me about the side view.
Hmm, good point, Silvas. I might need to see the other claws in action before I go on editing these ones...But I'll keep it all mind, thanks guys.

Sorry I haven't replied in a while.
I used the one LD posted I think.
I'll have another look at the Bec and let you know.
2 Claws is great.
Ah. Well, I have an updated WEP.bmp (with repositioned Becs, a spike added to the middle Bec, and the new claws). Let me know if you want it.
On a semi-related note, I've also updated the new claws. I've made the side view less angular and darkened the actual claws, so that we'll have some different looking palettes. I'm still open to ideas though, so don't be shy.
sure, i'll take it.
I think the side view is good now.
Quote from: "Vanya"sure, i'll take it.
Alrighty then, I've attached it for ya. Lemme know if there are any problems with it, whether it's palette issues, placement issues, or if it just plain isn't working right.
By the way, I was looking at the these on the Spriters Resource website (http://www.spriters-resource.com/psx_ps2/fft/sheet/1268) and noticed that two of the sheets have seemingly incomplete palettes. If we filled 'em in, we could use them, right?
I guess so. But is the sheet purposely incomplete because only needed for bows and staves?
So far, so good
Quote from: "jimmyw88"I guess so. But is the sheet purposely incomplete because only needed for bows and staves?
Hmm, I don't think they're even completed enough for those two weapons. I guess what I'm asking is whether there's space to finish these palettes. If so, I think one of us (or just me) could finish it out and make 'em usable.
On a related note, if someone could let me know how to test these weapons, I'll check it out myself, otherwise, feel free to try out all the new stuff (screen shots would be appreciated though).
I think its good if can finish these palettes.
The palettes are complete, as it were. They just have multiple black colors.
Oh yes! That's a great idea Mav, different palettes for the weapons (especially the ones that are just red and black) would be put to so much greater use if they were actually palettes rather then, what appears to be placeholders.
Cool cool, I'll see if I can finish 'em out within the week. I was thinking that red and gold would work for one weapon palette and then yellow and light blue or something. I'll see what I can do.
Here are mockups of the new weapon palettes. One of 'em is supposed to be bright, with some extreme contrast (the idea is that it looks fiery). The other is...messy. It looks like some kind of seaweed palette. I figured I'd post 'em, before I leave them on my computer and forgot about 'em again...Gimme some ideas.
Oh and some of the weapons look messed up, that's because I just copied stuff over the sheets without regard to what new items went where.
Ooo..Lovely ^^
Wait, so this is that unfinish spritesheet?
I need to copy the palettes to the WEP.bmp file and then copy the Mercenaries weapons over the sheet; then it'll be ready. I don't quite like the second palette though...the darker greens don't look right to me. I like the red one though, so I might as well copy that over soon.
Red is nice. Green may look a little dull.
I prefer the red one. The other needs a bit of work yet. ^_^
I looked at it and decided that I wanted to keep the yellows from the original, "incomplete" sheet, but couldn't come up with anything to go with it. I'll just have to go back to the drawing board.
Have you gotten anywhere with the second palette yet, Mav?
If not, mind if I take a crack at it?
I worked on it a bit, but didn't save my work. But please feel free to create a new palette. The more the merrier--I'm sure you'll come up with something great.
BTW, where are we on the custom graphics side?
I still need to try to make a rifle graphic, & finish researching the possible extra graphics slots I can squeeze outta this file.
I think the Bec de Corbins had a couple issues, the claws were ready, and the cards were still being tweaked. I don't remember completely though...
I thought I finished the cards? o.O
I'll look at the crow's beak to see what it needs.
What about the whip weapons? Is that still needed?
Were the cards finished? Like I said, I couldn't remember...you're probably right though. The whips definitely need some major fixing--the shape is okay right now, but they need some better shading and style. I'll look through this topic tonight and get back to you on what else (if anything) is needed.
OK. Has LD shown up recently? I'd like to get his feedback on this.
I dunno where LD is...It's been about two weeks or so since he last stopped by.
Anyways, all that needs to be added are the rifles (if possible). Both versions of the claws and the Bec de Corbins need to be tested (and if you haven't tested the cards, then those too). The whips need to be redesigned. Other than that, we're set: I attached the latest WEP.bmp a page or two back (it has both claws, the Becs, the whips, and the cards).
I talked to him a bit last night. He's busy with college. So he'll be AWOL for a while.
Coolio. I'll mess with those tonight.
Ah, many thanks for all this, Vanya: it's good to hear that LD is doing okay (busyness aside). Do you need/want any help with the other new weapon palette?
Yeah, sure. Working together will get this done faster.
Alright, well here's the palette I created. Again, I'm trying to retain the yellows left over originally, but finding nice companion shades is tough. Green, purple, yellow, and beige--is this any good? By the way, does anyone have the .PAL of the original weapon spritesheet?
I like it, but you seem to have some strange overlaps from the custom stuff and the default. Could you remove one or the other?
Ooo....I like this a lot. Very nice.
Quote from: "SilvasRuin"I like it, but you seem to have some strange overlaps from the custom stuff and the default. Could you remove one or the other?
Oh man, sorry about that. Here's the palette on the latest sprite sheet (i.e. the one with the claws and whatnot). I'll try and do this for the other palette I designed too.
Oh and Vanya, feel free to take this image, change out colors, mess around with it, etc.
Will do!
Hmm, I think its about time I finish this part of it once and for all, the concepts on the last few pages have been great! Just a few things to add, if possible. Poles become Carbon Copies of the Gun (if possible) for the Bullets. Bags become Rapiers. And my poor excuse for Whips, Really needs an upgrade. Also if anyone would like to try and make the KnightSword's look more "magic" like, then by all means, please try. Also if anyone has any ideas for any other touch ups, please give voice to your thoughts.
I'll work on all of that this week.
The whips will take the longest to perfect, but the rest should be quick.
