Hmm... could you edit some swordskills? Specifically:
-Night Sword without the 'eye' (or better yet straight to the sword part)
-Blue-paletted crush punch
-Slightly faster version of hellcry punch

On second thought, could you try making some completely new swordskills? I would love to add some variety beyond the current ones.
Title: Re: Dinosaur's Animations - Taking Requests!
Post by: Mando on April 13, 2011, 11:44:38 pm
The hell cry punch would remain the same speed things are hard coded so that a specific bin file executes in a in a fashion. The edits are purely cosmetic and will only alter color/looks.

UGH! Durbs! Are you making a patch? I am only taking request from people who are making a patch because I know they will use them. If you are making a patch, and know which swordskills specifically you wanted altered then you may request them.

Since I had free time I started on your first request.

E173 = Remove 'eye' on Night Sword

I like it better without the eye. I always thought that thing detracted from the sword aspect of the effect so much that it didn't really fit in anyways.

I'm not necesarily making a new patch (I'm basically modifiying 1.3 with my own persnal preferences for my own entertainment), but that certainly doesn't mean I'm not going to use it.

Ok Dino I actually have a request because I failed at it. See if you can make any of the 2 ice breaths = wind breath, a fire breath =earth breath, and a thunder breath without the lightning = dark breath.

It's weird and tricky mine came out all f'd up. I am not trying go pass it off onto you, maybe I am just not having luck with it :/

Well, please request anyways. I am not busy with any other requests :p so I have time to 'freelance'

What would you like?
Title: Re: Dinosaur's Animations - Taking Requests!
Post by: Pickle Girl Fanboy on April 18, 2011, 01:38:03 pm
4 effects, all derived from night sword.
1 with only the eye opening and closing.
1 with only the sword pop-up.
1 with only the other part.  The screen darkening and the dark mist.
1 with only the other part, but with a "Holy" themed palette, probably from Holy or one of the Cures.

And are you making the effects files available?

Do we have good animations for Aero, Water, Quake, and their -ara and -aga aspects?  How about a shorter holy and dark holy, like maybe flare with Holy and Dark Holy palettes?

Hey dino: Mando left me a message saying you two couldn't work out an edit on the bracelet/breath skills. I took a quick shot at it and Ice Breath ended up looking like this.

I was trying for green. :/

Sorry Day Sword kind of sucks. I cannot eliminate the red flash. My favorite is the only eye night sword.

Maybe dry a yellow palette instead of blue for a Day Sword? Might go better with the forced red flash.

I can't see the second video, do you have a link to it?

I'm surprised you can't eliminate screen darkening.  I don't remember, but do all the swordskills do that?

I cannot put it in a spoiler, weird. I seems the swordskills do that those flashes. Sadface. Nothing we can do about it now.

I must concur with the others: this is quite good work you're doing, dinosaur. Thank you. And I say that even though thus far the only ones that I might actually use are the very initial heart one and perhaps the Eye Only Night Sword, which would then necessitate Night Sword without the eye I suppose.

Of the most recent entries, I'm going to assume that Tornado video was the slowed down version of the effect, correct? Also, I personally like the second iteration of the "Quakaga" spell much better than the first one. That might just be me.

I'm tempted to ask for some things given what Pickle Girl Fanboy brought up, but this is another area that I wanted to at least attempt to learn to do the most basic parts myself. Besides, I still need to go through all of R999's videos, especially with my memory continually failing me.

Would it be okay to consult you if I require any help though down the road?

Yeah, this is a problem, though I would argue that it's greater more for the most basic effects surprisingly compared to the more grandiose ones.

Also, Quake already technically exists, but I'm sure you knew that.

@TheDamned:

Use whatever you want, some effects are silly but I still want to show them.

The slow down is my computer. All the effect will run like normal.

Yes, please consult with me with anything you want :)

There are Water1,2,3 effects that Zozma made, I will look for them and post it here (of course given credit to Zozma)

mini-tornado v2 gives me the feeling of a waterfall more than a tornado with clouds, but that's kind of nice :> Also very nice how flare looks really confusing with them circles floating around, really good job on that.

Make Space Storage (rafa's) use the palette from Diamond Sword.

Make Diamond Sword have a blue/green palette.... or anything that would be ICE blue looking colors.(maybe the colors from hydragon pit may work?)

Title: Re: Dinosaur's Animations - Palette Switch (Mando)
Post by: Mando on April 26, 2011, 01:58:40 pm
Yes Dino, You are very good at this ^^ some animation could be scaled down a bit (like the ones with bubbles) for a better resolution display during the animation. However its much better than what I have put forth. I'll be uploading my folder of color edits soon that has a even some I've collected from other people that look good. So far it has 24 or so in it.
I'll start taking requests myself soon.

I need to do more testing on key things like:
Effects of inserting a smaller effect.bin in a .bin that is MUCH larger. I know if its similar size it will work fine, but in a much larger file will there be a delay? I would assume no because the file would just be filled with 0s but who knows?

Also have you or celdia messed with more of the effect files that are completely gray? I noticed that night sword you cannot avoid the red from still coming up (due to hard code) I noticed a similar issue when editing wave around. Any of you tested things like triple thunder, thunder 2-4?

Hey, how are animations stored?  Could you import/export animations from other games?  How about an animation editor?
Title: Re: Dinosaur's Animations - Personal Animations
Post by: Mando on May 06, 2011, 01:51:53 am
Animations are stored in a .bin ... outside that the first part is usually a palette the second part is the code for the effect... other than this I do not know... it would take some experimentation to see if you can get effects from other games...

OR if you studied an effect file you could probably determine how its using the graphical portion and change it accordingly to get your desired effect.

A lot of these effects look really convoluted without a sprite there to give them some context. There's also a lot of awkward pausing and off-center action that comes across badly for the same reason. For what it's worth, a couple of them look fairly seamless. Ramuh and Clops are the best ones. Lich and Ifrit aren't too bad. The rest would need a few more changes. Good job though

Have you tried using a virtual machine to run a different os?

Hey, can you make green-paletted versions of all of the item animations? I want to make a class called an 'Herbalist' as a replacement to the chemist. They would use herbs and natural remedies in place of the consumable items of fft. I changed their sprites accordingly, but it looks unusual with the regularly colored animations.

Holy crap. The Heaven's Cloud thing looks freaking awesome. Probably the best thing I've seen yet.
I'm curious as to whether or not it's possible to have Choco Meteor, but instead of a meteor, something else like a drop of water. I don't need it for myself because I'm not making a patch or anything, I just know there aren't a lot of water animations for people that want to add Water/Watera/Waterga etc into their patches.

Hello Dino are you still taking requests ?
If so i'd like to ask you for a Holy Explosion E.167 with a dark palette e.g. Dark Whisper E.395
Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Doesn't work. Holy Explosion will form errors or not take the color properly... I've tried many times already.

Was also wondering if u were still taking requests? If u r, I was wondering if I could get the poison spell in red possibly? Also, do u know how to change the color of a sprite that is under the poison effect. Like when ur poisoned, u turn green, would u perhaps know how to change that to red or blue. Actually if u could do poison in blue to, that would be amazing :)

Your wish is my command, good sir.

However I am not aware how to change the color of the actual unit. I do believe it is possible but you have to find the right person who can find the poison command code. Not sure who knows...

***One idea is that berserk units turn red! You can have the attack have the berserk ability but take off the berserk status so only the color stays.

It's too bad that you only mentioned using the spriteless summon animations for exactly that- Spriteless. Odin's in green would be exactly what I need for an attack i've thought up

New to posting in the forums, I've been messing with all this stuff for a while, trying to get good enough to make a patch, and all that good jazz. I was wondering if there were any step-by-step video tutorials on how to make a custom skill animation, from start to finish (As that would be more effective than me requesting, uh... I think 16 different skills I'm trying to make?). Anything you could offer would be greatly appreciated, and if I'm not realizing something and being a retard, tell me and I'll keep from clogging the arteries of this site with my swill. Thanks in advance.

BTW, if it's on this site, as much time as I've spent scouring it, I've likely found it and it doesn't make sense to me... -_-;
I know, I'm an idiot.

As far as I know, we are currently limited to color changes and removing pieces from effects, we can't do anything with sound, adding effects, or creating new effects, because no one has figured out the coding for the animations

You can replace pieces from effects with other pieces.  The very first video in this thread of Dinosaur's Cure + Allure edits shows this off.  You can't add new things to an effect, but you can change up large enough sections of the various effects that it can end up being completely unrecognizable.  The coding for animations is 99% likely to be simply based on event code, which I could edit with a hex editor if I cared, but it's likely strung around in different ways and has unique commands tossed in.

I don't want to make a new one, necessarily. Ok, here's an idea of what I was hoping to do. I found the sprite for Dart, from LOD, and I wanted to alter the colors and in game effects of the Skeleton's "Anima/Soul" animation, to create something reminiscent of his "Flameshot". First, is that type of thing possible? Second, what program would you use to do it? I have tilemolester, but I'm not sure if that's the one I need.

Yeah, that's pretty easy to do once you know how.  You actually need a number of different programs to do it from extraction of the original effect to inserting your final one, but TileMolester is one of them as I recall.  I know someone who's good with editing effects who I'll have post on this tomorrow when they're on if no one's pointed you in the right direction before then, since I really only have a cursory knowledge of it and I don't think anyone's made an actual Tutorial for it yet.

@Taichii - I wouldn't know HOW to do that, though. I think that would make an interesting looking skill, but I don't know how to make it, or even what programs I would need...

@Eternal - It actually might, I never thought of that.... O.O

So dino, perhaps you can assist in putting together a proper Quakara and Quakaga spell effects, as there are good effects for:
Quake and Quakaja (either the original quake spell in the dimension magic set or the removied titan version)

"Mimic titan" would have been an ideal quakaga spell, however the effect does not follow the target :( so something else...

also, i have good water, watera, and waterga effects (using no-leviathan as waterja), as well as Aero, Aera, Aeroga (using tornado as Aeroja)

Would be great for you to do little videos for those too if you ever have the time.

And my idea for dark spells of equivelance woud be the: so no need to make these
Dark - Pitfall effect
Darkra - Demi2 effect
Darkga - Dark Whisper
Darkja- Blind2 effect or a violet ulmagest (if it works)

this is just something i did when i had my patch, making total balance of all the 8 elements this game has available.

I am, however, curious to see if "Ulmagest" is able to take a violet palette similar to dark holy

Not sure if your still taking requests Dino but if you are i could really use ur Bahamut - less animation change of palette to like a redish to make it somewhat flame/fire type of animation planning on using it as "Cosmo Memory" for red xiii in my patch.

well the one on the vid is e071 (1). bmp
i want it to look like e071 .bmp
i think the solution here is to replace offset 14-213 and 220 till the end of the dile.. so far i've only tested to replace the palette and change the image but i've not tried them together LOL.
the salamander summon (replaced ifrit) looks fine. and i don't think that its a coincidence that they both have the same palette (i think) well.. there XD
