Okay, I made some alterations.  I think I'm good to go for another test run.

Also, I made another team, Gastrafitis Cannon.  If someone could test that one too please.   ;)

That's too bad about Chiri no longer boosting Earth.  I think I want to rework my Ninja, and the Mime a bit.  I am going to diminish the ninja's damage so hegoes for breaks, and give the Mime Earth Clothes so he does more with Earth Slash.  But honestly his Chakra is pretty weak too...

Thanks for the videos Reks.  You have a good voice for commentary, nice and enthusiastic.  I think one way you could improve is by being a bit less repetative.  I wonder if you do that when you can't think of what else to say, but it's okay to say nothing while you think about what to say next.  Anyway, great job overall!

Hi guys!  After a really long hiatus I'm back.  I intend to keep active and contribute to the growth of the community, particularly the competitive scene.

I remade my oldest team now that Mime's have been buffed, so please test Earth Mime for me.

If you're going to drop anything from Wizard for Bio, maybe Poison?  It seems like a spell that no one ever uses.  Please don't consider dropping Flare/Frog/Death though, I love them on Wizards.  Maybe consider dropping Water.

The new mic is working out great Barren.
26
I think you missunderstood me Barren.  Sleep definitely lasts long, but stop doesn't prevent it from wearing off.
27
If other statuses wear off during stop, why wouldn't sleep?
28
Nicely done silentkaster.  Good luck in the rest of the tournament.

GG Zotis. I got fucked by the RNG in round 2 quite a few times and was actually pretty worried there going into the 3rdround... Good luck in the losers bracket, 4 casters? That can be pretty damn scary. Speed is my biggest advantage and relying on those lucky stop procs or dont acts from the archer and ninja right off the bat. If those don't happen I'm screwed.

that was pretty intense.  I was not expecting to get shut down so hard by all that don't act, and that random early stop was brutal.  Speed is something I decided to cut back on a bit relying instead on slow 2, short charge, and masamune.  Your combination of status and speed worked very well.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with Malroth.

Typically the tournament organizer arranges pools based on his knowledge of the players and who he expects to win.  Unknown players get seated low.  If they turn out to be really good, then that just makes for an interesting upset.

It's hard to have exhibition matches when you don't have a league or a whole season.  A lot of people only show up for tournaments.

It would be nice to have a cash prize.  That would draw a lot more people.  Who knows, in the future I may even be willing to offer $100 towards the winnings just to support this kind of scene's potential growth.

Quote from: Shintroy on June 18, 2015, 09:58:20 pmZotis you compete in melee tournaments? Pretty cool. I used to compete in melee between 05-07, brawl for the first two years, and I play top end Street Fighter 4 players online too. I was the best Dudley before Smug took over. He's so good.

Melee is still going strong, in fact the community is growing.  A lot has changed since 07 though.  The metagame is pretty nutz.  I've been playing for about 8 months and I've been to over a dozen tournaments.  Toronto has the biggest scene in Canada and the top 5 Canadian players, so I get a good amount of practice.

I wish we could get tournaments going a bit more frequently for Tactics.  It's hard to stay invested when tournaments are only once a year.  I'm tempted to start recording again.  Tactics has always been my favorite RPG.

I'm not familiar with the rules of chess but maybe we can do some kind of unique gimmick tournament. My only concern would be that if its too complicated for everyone to understand
You don't need a preliminary tournament.  Like in FIFA or fighting game tournaments, everyone is divided into small groups called "pools."  Each person plays everyone else in their pool and the people with the most wins move into the tournament bracket while the others get eliminated.  The tournament organizer can spread out the familiar top players so that pools are not too stacked.  There are big advantages to having pools.  Less skilled players who will likely get eliminated early in the bracket can actually get more than just two games, making it more fun for them.  Seating sets the tournament up so that the most skilled players make it further and meet up closer to the end of the tournament, so the top 8 rounds are more intense instead of having top players knock each other out early, or a new player having to face a top player in the first round of loosers.  Those can be a bit discouraging.  Overall it balances everything more for both the newer players and the veterans, and it makes for a more entertaining.

I think it could be something worth considering in the future.  I play Super Smash Bros. Melee competitively and that's the way they do it.  You and CT5Holy facing each other so early is pretty rough because you're both such veterans and obviously among the best players here.

I would say, for in the future, what these tournaments really need is some form of seating.  Like preliminary pools or something.

I use Open Broadcaster Software, I find it works well for me.

You just don't have enough damage output.  Stop, Sleep, don't act, and slow are all good, but then you need to do something to them while they're disabled, not just keep throwing on more status.  I like to think of it how I used to build decks for Magic the Gathering before the metagame got ruined by newer editions.  You have to think of a win condition.  As it is, your team stalls with status, and your Monk gradually picks people off, but even he has a tendency to get distracted.  You also have to keep in mind that the AI prioritises healing, so if your main damage dealer is also acting support with Chakra/Stigma Magic/Revive, then he will not always prioritise damage.  I think you'll get into trouble when you face teams that have high damage output and/or resilience.
37
A bit drawn out.  Shintroy, your team's greatest weakness I think is it's inability to close the match.

The most intense match so far.  I'm a little surprised that CT5Holy took it so decisively.  I'm sure you'll plow through the underworld Barren.
38

I'm surprised Silentcaster got knocked down to the underworld already.  Mimes with summon magic can be really strong if they get set up.

Congradulations RedWorld!  That was a nice comeback.  That was an interesting use of Mad Science.

Really exited.  I'm actually a bit nervous about AnimaZero's team because it's pretty anti-status and low faith.

Oh Barren, please play some Napalm Death for me.  :p  kidding, I wouldn't make you suffer that much.  I'll probably request some anime music though.

I'm pretty excited, and so glad I made it just in time.
