- Zalbag is the commander of the Hokuten, so it's not surprising that he showed up at Fort Zeakden. There's no reason for Dycedarg to be there though since he's just Duke Larg's retainer. So now you'd need to come up with a compelling reason for him to even be there.

- You'd have to edit the scene at Igros when Golagros kidnaps Teta since Dycedarg is seriously injured during the scene.

- Having Zalbag and Dycedarg join you just doesn't make sense as far as the plot's concerned. Why bother changing what happens later on anyway?

All so Dycedarg can be present when Teta gets killed? I just don't see the point in putting him in that scene. I'll leave it at that to keep from going further off-topic.
62
You're right that he doesn't say to kill her (in the original game he says "Go on! Do it!", and he basically say the same thing in the PSP version). But what he says doesn't matter much because the damning part is he doesn't bat an eye when Algus does kill her. Which means at the very least, he didn't give a damn about whether she lived or died.

Not sure why you feel the need to switch the two of them, since Dycedarg is guilty of the same indifference towards her and has already been shown to be a villain before then. Plus, that means changing a bunch of other things about the plot just so Dycedarg being at Zeakden instead of Zalbag makes sense.

Quote from: "Dokurider"It doesn't make any sense for Zalbag to kill so needlessly and someone so familiar with such cold bloodedness. It's so out of character for him. It seems more like something Dycedarg would do, really. In fact, I feel that it should have been Dycedarg to give the order. Maybe he was involved? Wouldn't surprise me. It just seems like a missed opportunity to really establish Dycedarg as a villain. Thoughts?

I don't think Zalbag was really that familiar with Teta. Not in the sense of being especially close with her. And like Kaijyuu pointed out, Zalbag is like most other nobles. He thinks little of sacrificing commoners for the sake of some greater goal. Algus foreshadows this attitude before he's kicked out of the party:

"I said he would be a fool to hold back an army for fear of spilling a few drops of your common blood!"

I'd also add that while Dycedarg didn't give the order, he's not innocent in her death either. After all he says that no operations would be undertaken before she's returned safely. And yet she's still in enemy hands during the final campaign to eliminate the Death Corps.

Finally, Dycedarg was already established as a villain in the scene at Igros when it was revealed that he was the one who put Gustav up to kidnapping Marquis Elmdor.

Quote from: "ffta707"I'm not here to piss anyone off. It's a matter of republican vs. Democrat. Sorry dominic.

...I'm not pissed. I was just pointing out that Zaen didn't really clarify what you said. I don't see how it's a partisan matter either because I never mentioned what my party identification is and it doesn't really have any bearing on your statements being unclear as they are.

Not that it matters since I'm no fan of either party.

Quote from: "Zaen"What he means is that you have people saying things such as Free Speech should be limited when people are saying "irrational" things. (Clip here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr3FXnfEQZc)

The only thing I gleaned from the video is that Arianna Huffington thinks it's irrational for the wife of a Supreme Court justice to call Obama a tyrant. And at the end, she doesn't disagree that she has the right to do so (or at least doesn't think she should be thrown in jail).

Not that this vid had anything to do with the question anyway. ffta said the Constitution has no effect on our lives anymore. I don't see how a video of someone saying it's irrational to call the President a tyrant = the Constitution has no effect on our lives. It doesn't even support the point you think it does.

QuoteIf you look, opposition was in the more liberal court members. The general liberal standpoint is limiting or banning gun carrying laws, and more specifically, limiting the Second Amendment. So... I don't see why that statement needs explanation.

...Huh?

So ffta says Obama has been making useless gun laws that will lead to only criminals having guns:

Quote from: "ffta707"I agree with most of the scriptures of the constitution. Now days, Obama is coming up with useless gun laws. Gun laws will only make the death rate climb. Criminals can easily guzzle guns off the black market, unlike us normal civilians. We will have no protection.

My response is to ask him to explain his post, since the Obama Administration hasn't done much of anything regarding gun control (among other problems I see with the post). I pointed out the two most recent Supreme Court rulings related to the Second Amendment which clearly support to right to bear arms, or least strike down restrictions on that right.

And your response is to point out that more liberal members of the court opposed the majority ruling and then state what the "liberal" stance on gun control is? Don't take this the wrong way, but your post doesn't really explain ffta's post at all.

The only thing I've an opinion on is higher items costs. And I know I'll probably be one of the few to go against them. I hated them in the original Easytype because I thought they didn't really add anything besides just making party management a pain in the ass and giving enemies an unnecessary edge over the player early in the game.

I had a special hatred for Phoenix Downs. IIRC, they can randomly heal up to a certain percentage of the target's HP while reviving them, which makes them a bit more useful than in the vanilla game. And so they command a hefty price premium. But 2000 gil (and even 1000 gil) is just too much for such an important consumable item, especially early in the game when there aren't any alternatives. Not to mention, enemies don't have to worry about managing their wallets, so they can toss all of the phoenix downs they want.

There was no strategy involved with buying them because I stopped buying them altogether after awhile and just invested JP in revival skills instead.

The problem I have with costs in terms of equipment was that it quickly became imbalanced, both in the player party and between the player and the enemy. While enemies were steadily getting better stuff to wear, I was scrounging up gil just a buy a single piece of armor. The end result is where you could comfortably equip a party of four or five in the original game with a given amount of gil, that same amount of gil in Easytype would allow you to equip one or two units in the latest gear, at best. And because equipment was still mostly just a vertical affair (y piece of gear is better than x piece of gear that came before it), there was little reason to keep using older pieces of equipment. Except you had to because you're too broke to buy anything better. It just makes party management more of hassle than it should be.

Instead of prohibitive costs, I think your plan to make equipment upgrades more horizontal would be a better way to make players think a little more strategically about buying a certain piece of gear.

I haven't forgotten about this. Sometime in the near future, I plan to overhaul every entry I've made and place them all in a single post and then start working on some newer entries.

That's a good approach. With the complaints about the style WOTL uses, someone trying to emulate it without really being too familiar with the ins and out of the style probably just make things worse.

I'm actually considering redoing the script again to see how it'll turn out. If nothing else, it'll make for a good exercise to get back into messing around with the game.

Quote from: "Eternal248"Wow, I totally forgot to reply to your post, Dom. Sorry. >_>

@Dom: Well if you looked at the ENTD, you'll see that Ovelia is joining Agrias in the battle at Zaland. Ovelia wants to help Mustadio, and asks Ramza to help as well. At that point, you get a choice: save Mustadio, or let him on his own (as in Vanilla). So basically, Ovelia wants to save Mustadio, and Agrias is along for the ride, being as loyal to Ovelia as she is. Thus, I suppose it could go eitherway. Either Agrias' desire to help those in need, or following Ovelia's orders. I suppose I could leave it up to the player to decide one way or the other.

I see. It sounds like you're going to be making these kinds of subtle changes throughout the game. I was thinking you'd just be adding some side stories to the main story.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.
72
Quote from: "Eternal248"@Dom, I've thought of that, actually. But Agrias' Paladin nature would never allow an innocent to be harmed, regardless of her personal suspicions. Particularly when a known drug syndicate (Bart Company) is chasing someone. Thus, she may be suspicious of someone, and may not really want them around, but she realizes that it's her duty to do so. That's just my take on it, at least.

I thought Agrias relented because Ovelia said it was OK for him to come along.

Again, if this is just some alternate takes on events, then you can disregard what I'm saying.

Quote from: "Kill_Bones"
Quote from: "Dominic NY18"Agrias is outright suspicious of Mustadio
She is only suspicious after the battle, when Mustadio won't tell her why the people are after him. She is the one who wanted to save boco in the forest, so this change is pretty consistant of her caring personality that is shown there. @ Eternal: I reiterate, I LOVE THIS. Question: Are chocobo-head and worker 8 still in or will you delete them for unit space? I don't really care either way.. I never use the two.

No, it isn't really consistent to go from wanting to keep someone from being harmed to wanting to leave them on their own while they're being pursued. And the only commentary she makes before the Araguay battle expresses surprise that there's even a chocobo in the forest. Ramza makes the decision to save Boco (or not).

I'm loving the changes. I'm just saying that Eternal should be careful that some of them don't end up being inconsistent with the plot. Unless that's what he's going for  8)
74
Interesting changes to some of the battles, but some of them seem to conflict with the plot.

Take the battle of Zaland. The change is basically that Agrias and Ovelia decide to save Mustadio rather than Ramza making the decision. The problem is it seems pretty inconsistent with the scene following the battle when Agrias is outright suspicious of Mustadio and not really willing to take him along with the group.

Just food for thought. I like the concept overall though.

Quote from: "ffta707"It bugs me - The constitution takes no effect in our daily lives anymore.

You're going to have to explain this one...

and this one. Especially after District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago

Quote from: "Zaen"On the last portion before the tax and welfare reform, Social Security is pure insanity. Basically 50% of our national debt is to ourselves trying to cover Social Security. We could possibly save ourselves, or at least recover ground by just dropping it. People will complain for a few years, but eventually will adapt. After all, there could be the option of people setting aside their own money for retirement. I, for one, do not look forward to paying off not only my college debt, but also paying others' retirement? Tell me one good reason why other people are entitled to what I have earned. It frustrates me greatly.

Really? I thought Social Security was solvent until at least the 2030's. I also thought most of our deficit was the result of two tax cuts that haven't been paid for and two wars which also aren't being paid for.

Looks like someone stumbled on the Retranslation topic on GameFAQs.

But seriously, it's because people have differing opinions of it. While you think it's awesome, others think it's overwrought/pretentious/flowery/unnatural/etc. For them, those same speeches illustrate the problem with the dialogue. You know, people just having different opinions on the same thing. There are plenty of people who are like you and enjoy the new translation (it was one of the motivations behind FFT Complete). Don't take it too seriously.

And to be fair, that topic's on the PS1 FFT board. You'd get a more mixed response from the PSP board.

I prefer it over the original myself, if only because the original managed to muddle certain facts and plot points (or get them completely wrong) and it's Engrishy tone is no more natural than the style they went for in WOTL. It gets bonus points for the references it makes to various works and people in the real world (for example, Wiegraf makes a shout out to Marx at Riovanes).

Just enjoy whichever one you enjoy and don't worry about what others think.

Modern Combat 2 for iOS. Plenty of FPS fun so far (and much more than I was expecting from an iPhone game). Then again, it's a GameSoft game.

Thinking about trying Sonic 4, but the price tag and the fact that it's the first of three episodes is kind of making me leery about it.
